Bolingoli Assessed - Is Tierney Impossible to Follow?

"This is still early days and I am comparing 170 appearances with just under 10."

Early? Ya think?!?!

"Bolingoli looks to be a decent attempt to replace a one in a generation talent."

Agree, though I would replace the word "decent" with "adequate." It's pretty foolish to think that Tierney is replaceable. Clearly someone has to play that position, and it is unfair to whomever that that might be to be compared to KT.

That said, after a few games to come up to speed -- all the while being dumped on mercilessly by some Celtic "supporters" -- Bolingoli has finally settled in, and he seems to be a good fit in that position. For some of us who have wanted him to succeed as a Celt, the Twitter-handle name-changing (or avatar changing) should come as no surprise.

Spot on?

I have to say under Rodgers KT became less dynamic than when he first burst onto the scene. BR's obsession with keeping possession meant he, and all of the team, played the safe ball sideways or backwards more often than not. I'm glad he's gone (BR not KT). I believe Boli will develop but may make the odd mistake that will be remembered far longer than the good things he does. 10 appearances v 170 is far too early to compare imho.

Boli is as far away from being Tierney as I am being the next Bond.

If you read the article, it says that. However, the takeaway here is that the numbers are closer between Celtic-legend-vs-new-guy than you might think, and Boli, who will never be Tierney, has been an adequate replacement.

Boli is here for 9, and possibly longer. He's been steadily improving. Get used to it.

It’s not me who needs to get used to it, it’s him. I hope he keeps improving as I do every signing, but I will bet you a pound to a penny Taylor makes the LB position his. If Boli keeps up his improvement he will be a good back up, but unless Taylor fails to shine, that’s where I see him.

Let’s see how it all works out. As long be as our defence gets better I don’t care who plays. It’s down to the players, Boli started looking truly awful, there is no question of that. The boy was good against Sevco which will do his confidence the world of good, but that doesn’t mean the criticism of his early performances wasn’t on the money, because it was.

Our defence has been our Achilles heel for years as we all know to our cost, especially in Europe. When Calmac was put in ahead of him against Cluj it told you everything you should need to know about how Lenny trusted him. The dithering of the board not to bring in taylor or another LB forced Lenny to make that monumental tactical balls up with Calumn. But he did that because Boli had been fucking dire, not because he wanted to. He felt he had to because we hadn’t brought in someone to replace him in the most important game of the season and yet again we got handed our arse and lost out of the CL millions.

It seems our board never learn. I don’t know how good Taylor is and would have preferred Melling, but reports I’ve heard of him are good. If he lives up to his billing he will be our first choice LB unless Boli improves even more.

Watched the England game the other night. The most expensive defender in the world made a couple of massive fuck ups, lucky for him England were well ahead at the time. And that Keane, dont make me laugh, over-paid and over rated. Boli will come good imho.
