Fair play Shammy my point about Paul mcstay was that he not only carried a team, he carried a Club and support. He never had the luxury of playing with the Qaulity that broony has, and aye what a captain we have, but Paul was a shinning light in darkness for our club and me for one will never forget that. HHThe op suggested that Broony is our greatest captain SINCE big Billy. I think there's no doubt Cesar will always be the No1 captain in the eyes of most supporters but the time will soon come when a generation of fans will never have seen Billy play apart from watching reruns of 1967 and of him lifting the big cup.

But given what's coming thru the ranks that honour of wearing the armband and leading the team out will always be huge part of any players career, And there are some leaders on the park now in this team broony aside. Great time to be a Tim....the futures bright it's Green & white!I just wondered what they will think a few generations from now. Karamoko, best captain ever?
Who knows but it's a certainty that there won't be players staying with one club for the majority of their careers and becoming legendary captains like the ones we've been fortunate enough to witness.
Galway so true in your statement bout leaders in our team both young and mature. Lenny and backroom staff are doing an excellent job. Every single player is on the same page, such desire to win not lose not give up. everyone supporting each other. look what they are like when someone scores, everybody joins in. No Billy big baws. They are all in it together, think everyone is a captain, striving to ensure we win every game. And the glory is ours. But given what's coming thru the ranks that honour of wearing the armband and leading the team out will always be huge part of any players career, And there are some leaders on the park now in this team broony aside. It's great to see that unity in a team Falcov and the mentality brought from the coaching staff and the Lurgan legend, One player doesn't make a team, but by God he can make a difference! Older guys on here can point to a magical team and rightly so, but for me ave seen us at our most desperate, our way back up, and a suicidal fuck up from that shite does not make a jot of difference to me, this is a team to enjoy and celebrate.Galway so true in your statement bout leaders in our team both young and mature. To be fair, Conar, things only really began to kick into gear after THAT goal and the subsequent reaction.I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in Broony in his first couple of seasons (mitigating factors for that). But over the years heβs contributed massively to our Club. As heβs got older heβs matured into a real leader & has had a huge influence on the young players & the foreign signings who came in & heβs helped them develop a feeling & what it means to play for Celtic.
Cesar is Celtic. No one comes close. But in time I think Scott Brown will be level with Roy Aitken, our Centenary Year Captain, as a true Celtic icon. There may have been better players weβve had as captains, but few have been better at leading than Broony
With the likes of Danny McGrain Kenny Dalglish and Paul McStay Broony has some big competition for that accoladeForgot aboot Danny too. There was a lot of brouhaha about Argentina in 78, but Scotland were without the best full back in the world and Gordon McQueen for that tournament.
Sounds a bit hinky now, but with those two - Scotland had a punchers chance of doing something that year.
Aww come on, Ped.........what aboot Evander Sno and his size 15 feet? Not only was he so good that he could beat himself, he also gave himself heart palpitations with his natural 'talent and ability'.Danny was the greatest fullback this country ever produced ,he even played his part in the greatest Celtic goal Ive ever seen at love st 86. Paul was the greatest midfielder I ever witnessed, could have went to Juventus but knocked it back, that says it all about the man. In terms of records and trophies Broony is the greatest captain since big Ceaser . Not only that he's best midfielder we've had since Paul Mc stay.
I'm not sure on current form that Jullien is going to be around long enough, TT?Reading the posts , have changed my mind about 20 times , in terms of trophies broony is up there with Cesar , and you have to say that is how we are measured , so for me Scott brown is our greatest captain since big billy , but the maestro , incredible wonderful football player , seen him many times , Daniel fergus mcgrain , best in the world at the time, Feed the bear aitken, solid strong commited , centenary captain , NFL, lambo all legends in there own right , but broony stands as an equal in my opinion,
Who is the next colossus in the armband , my vote would be Jullien , just looks and plays the part , controversial ?
Spherical , fair point you could well be right, he is quality and I hope we can keep him , I think his Celtic journey is only beginningI'm not sure on current form that Jullien is going to be around long enough, TT?
There's a lack of quality defenders throughout Europe at the moment and he looks like a clone of VVD. I can imagine a few heads being turned in the next season or two and no doubt the media will be trying to punt him to Southampton in January.
I think Ajer is our best option to be captain if Broon isn't available, he's still young but I see him having leadership qualities. Calmac's a great player and a great team player and he seems to be the one mentioned most as Broony's successor but I've never been that impressed with him when he's stepped in as captain, the responsibility seems to be a bit of a burden to him, i dont think he has that bossy, mouthy, in yer face character, unlike you Shammy! It'll be a matter of who doesn't get sold off, Torrence but if he sticks around I'd like to see Ajer take the armband as he fights for every ball and drives and directs the team from the back already and he really gets what our club is all about. Like Corpus, he's still young yet for a captain's role but Calmac, after signing a new contract might be around for a while and has loads of experience already, could be a natural successor to Broony.
Hoopy, I get the feeling, with the type of player that CalMac is, he needs to be allowed to do his thing without being encumbered with the responsibility of the captaincy.I think Ajer is our best option to be captain if Broon isn't available, he's still young but I see him having leadership qualities.
