Got a bottle of this in the local Tesco reduced to clear @£20. Can't remember if I've had it before but assume I got a good deal.

Agree it's not the best but you'll pay way more than £20 for the best anyway, I've had other jura that was origin I think and was not bad at all. It's well worth a score , just seen a bottle of dalmore constellation 1966 only costs £24,999,95 wit a bargain eh ?🤔

Like my whisky, from the top blends to mid-aged malts, always look tae see what the malt of the month is & pick up a couple of bottles, Glenfiddich is my fave malt, 12, 15 or 18yr old, but price is £35-45 for the 12 &15 so I look for it on special & use the wife & kids to get as many as I can afford, the 18 £95+ I watch for the Whisky shop doing promos £45ish for bottle or my son bringing a couple back from Dubai if duty free doing promo.

basically I allow £25 ish max for a bottle, Glen Moray is a decent one for about £20 ish, my local distillery Loch Lomond The Original £22-27 depending on where you buy it, Lidls Ben Bracken at £18 a bottle is another worth giving a try, Auchentoshan American oak another in the £22-27 price, sometimes on offer in Co-op, Asda for £20.

jura is one of the best Island malts imo & at £20 fill yer boots

Got to agree. Glen Moray is one of best budget malts you can buy. Never tried a Loch Lomond TT, next time I'm in Antartex I'll give it a go.

Not into whisky at but clients keep buying me bottles because in Scottish....Cardhu being the most popular..is that any good?

Hey Tartan Tim I'm glad you gave that Ben bracken a nod. If it's the same one or range I'm thinking of then its a fine if not overly complicated dram has been my battlefield sandbag resort since I discovered it. (Red Speyside blue Islay and green Highland?) Only ever tried the red one but it seems to quash the hordes when they think they are after your good stash.
Any time I have anyone round that poor label gets it at the expense of protecting hidden gems. It's the ultimate sandbag whiskey. Tastes fine. Nothing wrong with it.
After a few beers the better stuff is often and always wasted anyway.
I work in the restaurant trade and love a tipple and I've tried some great spirits from the reps. I'd love to be able to afford £100 or more for a bottle as some of them are genuinely special. Apart from my old man I know two or three lads ( I'd want to drink with) that would fully truly appreciate it so I only buy a special bottle once a year and eek it out to myself.

One dodge I'd recommend is the bowmore 18. I like the 15, I'd call it a gateway into peat without the fear of bootleg island TCP you were scarred with many moons ago as it has big sherry cask flavour in it , balvenie bravehearts give it a go. sounds mad but it tastes thick (viscosity) lots of little flavours depending how you breathe and taste it if you try and do your part, tries too hard to cram to much in possibly but it's a good effort. The now discontinued 17 was great. The 18 is imo piss. Thin ,hit of peat nothing else it has some hidden flavours but nothing close to what you would expect a whiskey of that age and price to deliver.
Think it's close to a ton a bottle. I'm glad I tried it first and had a few to decide. I'd be heart broken trying to talk it up if I had splashed on it.
I'm now working my way into the hellishishly heavy peat whiskeys so I can talk to the bigger boys and pretend I have a slightest clue. It's like eating olives... Stockholm syndrome ....you love it eventually

Your fecking joking. I tried a bowmore 25 on a night out a couple of weeks ago and it was excellent. I checked it out and it was £300 which is a bit much so ordered an 18 years instead. It was only £25 but that's because I didn't look closely at the ad - it was only 200ml when it got delivered 🙈. Still haven't tried it though....
