January Rumours - Merged

Shankland, orange bastard but who cares...he's a finisher and anyone who knows the game will tell you that pure scorers are a dying breed...this boy is worth a punt, more so than bringing a young fella in from a foreign country who might take a year to bed in or he might not settle at all?
At least with shankland, he knows what is expected of him, knows the environment and again, yes prolific....so, if it was a toss up between the polish lad and shankland, I'd take the latter
Too ugly to wear hoops mate, hes got hun written across his massive foreheid!

this should be the window that we look for a proper Eddy backup. Big ask. I just couldn't see PL doing that till we have Eddy dough in the bank.
Unless Lenny does a u turn on a Griff loan deal I cant see us going for striker no5. Possibly another attacking player that is a bit more versatile at a push on loan maybe?
Shankland is a penalty kick taker, scores with both feet and seems to run into the right areas and his finishing at tight angles cant be argued with, few longer range goals and headers as well. Its the standard of the defenders and goalkeepers he is up against that is the worry...Morgan bagged 18 at that level in his last season from the wing, star of that division and we felt we could move him on.
As for the Polish lad he is a mystery. The scouts must of seen enough. My only concern is that we have two guys with links to the club sheridan and Zurawski (was there a third? cant mind) that have given opinions on him. I couldn't help feeling they were being guarded, possibly sitting on the fence and a bit kind to a young player. Magic thinks the 3.5m was a fair price but i would of liked to of heard "steal or bargain as bigger clubs will swoop". Sheridan thinks he will be missing a few but will run and press all day.
Dont get me wrong im looking forward to see him play but the feeling i'm getting is we aren't to expect too much in the short term.
Im sure it has escaped none of us but this is the business end of the season. A striker for today and not tomorrow is what we need.

Nah Docco too much of a step up for him
I agree. If our ambition and will to do 9 rests on the shoulders of players like Shankland then we are well and truly fucked. We have money, we need quality. I'm not convinced Pat is the real deal, but, I certainly don't think Shankland is. He wants to play for Sevco. Which is fine as the boy supports then. More important than that though is I don't think he is good enough.

it's also reported he's got a bit of an ego and throws the occasional strop ,we'll know soon enough if he demands the 9 jersey

Don't get where your hearing reports he wants to play for sevco ,heard in august he see's the championship as his target
In a team like ours attack minded and surrounded by better players he would score for fun

Shankland is the only player we know anything about and his credentials are right up there with Elvis.. even though he is playing in a lower league..
He has scored I think 21--23 goals this season playing with average players,I would like to see what he could do with our quality around him,,we seem to forget this boy was a free transfer last year, look how far he has come,,from free transfer to Internationalist,,how often do we hear that ??.
I believe Polish Paddy might have a wee chip on his shoulder but I am sure Lenny can take care of that.
I have never known any Polish player who has thrown in the towel when the going gets tough, lets see what the Bhoy can do before we pass judgement..

HH.
