I found this fae Big John from 2013,
What's so special about Celtic? It's a question I get asked time and again.
No matter where I go in the UK it's what people want to know. They ask what separates my old club from the rest?
And I always give the same reply. There are two reasons I tell them. The Celtic fans and the Celtic history.
Every club had supporters, some better than others, but those who follow Celtic are unique. There are millions of them dotted all over the world. Most of them haven't seen the team play. Most never will.
But if you ask them who they support they'll say Glasgow Celtic.
The history is another thing that sets them apart because of the 1967 European Cup win. That group of players came together as the first British team to lift the trophy. No matter what happens in the future that can NEVER be taken away. It wasn't just the winning, it was the way it was won.
I love the story that all 11 men were born and brought up within 30 miles of the ground. When you think about that in today's context that's out of this world.
At that time they were so dominant in Scottish football winning nine titles in a row. I know it's been done since, but not by a small group of homegrown Scots.
I'm just so proud to have the opportunity to wear the green and white hoops. I wasn't a supporter growing up. Celtic meant almost nothing to me as a kid. Even when I signed on the dotted line there was only so much I could have told you.
I knew it was a big club with tradition but I didn't know just how much. Yet almost from the moment I walked through the door I got it. I just got it.
It virtually smacks you between the eyes, the sense of tradition at Celtic Park.
It's probably there at your Liverpools and Manchester Uniteds of this world. Sure those clubs have their history too. But they can't recreate what happened at Celtic in European terms because my old club was the First.
At Celtic, too, once you have become part of the club it stays with you forever and a day.
I was lucky enough to score more than 100 goals there. For me that's the biggest achievement of my playing career, without a shadow of a doubt.
Only 28 players have done it down the years and to think I'm one of them.
I'm telling you now, it means the world to me.
