Summer Transfer Window Thread Now Open...

With Barkas signing, looks like Forster definitely dead. However, Gordon needed replaced... fingers crossed. I’m surprised Forster didn’t want it given he has mental health issues not playing for Southampton. I thought enjoying himself would’ve been better than the extra money.

hope Barkas gonna be a good signing, hearing some good reports

I think the biggest gamble Forster took this summer is not signing for us, I hope it works out for the guy but I think he's made a mistake.

I suspect the big fella will sit down at the end of his career and realise that this was a big mistake. OK, he may have more money but he already more wealth than anyone needs to live a very comfortable life. Thanks for some amazing performances Waa (Barca 2012 and the league cup final last season) but time for us to move onto our next hero.

And seeing as A Jet Ski has snubbed us I can categorially state that I never liked him anyway and didn't want him!

Forster made a big mistake here, watch him slipping into obscurity, can always check his bank balance whilst sitting in the stand as 3rd choice Southampton goalkeeper, hopefully he can tune in on a Tuesday/wed, and see us in the champions league against the likes of Barcelona or Juventus or similar 🤣

I agree that it is about achievement on the pitch, and sometimes the timing of departures is not good, but areas like museums and hotels are really important.

We can generate revenue 24/7, 365 days a year from a museum and a hotel. Many people who are not local will use both on the same visit. This will prove to be a substantial earner and should not be played down.

I don't dispute that the hotel and museum will create additional income streams for the club KetCelt it's what's paying for their creation and the possible impact that has on the club that I'm taking issue with here.

The estimated cost of the project stands at £18m according to reports so in reality there's only 2 real ways of funding a project on this scale, we either qualify for the CL group stages and use the proceeds from that to fund it or we sell off our best players to do it.

Our best shot at achieving the first requires us to retain our best players and maintain a certain standard in the squad. The benefits of this option is that we could secure a massive revenue intake that could cover the entire cost of the project with millions to spare and do so without having to sell off any of our best players.

Additional benefits of this aside from us being able to cover the entire cost of the project and getting to watch our team play in Europe's top competition.....

Even larger revenue intake for the club through possible progression in the competition.
Retention of our best players increases our chances of consistent CL qualification.
Increases our chances of retaining our best talent by being able to offer them consistent CL football.
The ability to attract a higher quality of player by being able to offer them CL football.
If we choose to sell/player wants to leave we could generate higher transfer fees due to CL exposure.
More lucrative commercial deals for the club through CL exposure.
Higher revenue from CL gate receipts. (When fans go back after the Covid crisis)

If we choose to go with the second option and sell one maybe two of our best players to fund the project then aye we will have a lovely new hotel and museum that will no doubt generate a decent revenue stream for the club for years to come but it will come at the expense of the team on the field meaning we will have decreased our chances of CL qualification (a far bigger revenue stream) for the next few years at least and jeopardised every additional benefit, financial and otherwise, that comes with it.

And for what exactly? To prioritise a project, the benefits of which will take years to feed through onto the pitch if it ever actually feeds through at all and even if it does will it be significant enough to make a genuine difference. That's before we even take into account the impact Covid will have on those potential revenue streams for the foreseeable future as hotels and museums are seeing visitor numbers plummet through the floor.

The point I'm trying to make KetCelt is that retaining our best players increases our chances of CL qualification and increases our chances of qualifying consistently. Not only does CL qualification guarantee greater financial benefits in both the short and long term for the club than the Hotel/Museum Project ever could but it could actually finance the whole Hotel/Museum Project without having a negative impact on the team at all.

This doesn't have to be an either or, we can do both and reap the rewards of both if Lawell and those at the top just took their blinkers off for once. Stop viewing the team as an inconvenient drain on resources or an asset to be stripped to plug holes in the finances or fund other projects and start viewing it for what it is.....the club's greatest strength, it's biggest moneymaker and the one thing that has the potential to fund all of the things they want to do without having to make compromises.

finances taken care of it helps having someone with that knowledge and investment sitting on the board , won't interfere with the clubs finances

Can't really blame Forster tbh....a fee was agreed between clubs apparently but would you want to go from 80k per week to 25k tops??
He's already had the privilege to play for us 4 different times and won many trophies...how many players can say that?
Good luck to him and I wish him no ill...one of the top 3 Celtic keepers of the last 50 years

Hotel/museum won’t happen this year, but it will happen, capital projects that increase revenue can only be a good thing, remember how everyone laughed when wee Fergus submitted plans for a 60k seater stadium, at a time when the crowd was only averaging 40k, now we have 17k on a waiting list for a season ticket, given the Emirates arena and the Chris hoy velodrome across the road, there is a lot more footfall in the area than the usual every 2nd Saturday and occasional mid week game, there are no hotels in the local, no competition, people that travel to go to events at the 3 world class venues need somewhere to stay, it’s a no brainier, the Celtic village will become a reality, well done to the board for buying up all the available land.....players will come and go....the infrastructure will be there for generations 🍀💚
