Summer Transfer Window Thread Now Open...

Quotes from AEK fans

One said: "It's a shame we lost him, but we managed to keep him for a long time"

Another added: "Good luck Vasilis, the best to you and our friends from Glasgow!"

A fan said: "Good luck, success and health. The top Greek goalkeeper will try his luck. Well done. Thank you for everything."

Another added: "I wish you a Premier League move Vasilis in a couple of years!"

A Celtic fan also wanted to find out what kind of player the Hoops have at their disposal and the responses from AEK fans were overwhelmingly positive.

One said: "Yeah he is really good...he is better than the last goalkeeper you had."

Another replied: "He is the best goalkeeper playing in Greece."

One added: "If he was playing at a more advanced league than Greece, Celtic could never get the transfer with this money. Also even AEK would not agree with the transfer but he wanted to do it. Celtic really got a bargain there. You will see on the pitch."

Fingers crossed he'll turn out to be a bargain MD 🤞

Celtic target Mark McKenzie has opened the door on a move to Parkhead by admitting he dreams of moving to Europe and playing in the Champions League.

Record Sport revealed last month that the American international is on the radar of Parkhead chiefs as they hunt a defensive replacement for the departed Croat Jozo Simunovic.

McKenzie has been scouted by Celtic recruitment staff having impressed with his form for Philadelphia Union at centre-back.

The 21-year-old has risen through the ranks of the American national set-up and was handed a first senior cap by his country five months ago when appearing as sub against Costa Rica after also captaining his nation at the 2020 Under-20 World Cup in Poland.

McKenzie, who is currently featuring in the MLS in Back tournament, is ready to take the next step in his career and admits playing abroad and at Europe’s highest level holds big appeal.

He said: “As a kid, you dream of playing at the top clubs in the world. Playing in top leagues and in Champions League and whatnot.

“It’s always a blessing to be able to draw interest from clubs in Europe.”

McKenzie, who has sparkled for Union since being nominated for 2018 MLS Rookie of the Year Award in his debut campaign in Philadelphia, can also operate in the left-back slot.

The stopper, who hails from the Bronx in New York, has 18 months left on his current deal, but can be snapped up for a fee understood to be around the £1 million mark.

McKenzie’s manager Jim Curtin believes his starlet and other Union young guns can make the big move and added: “In terms of the hype around our players, it’s real.

He said: “There’s been a lot of interest from teams from overseas. Their talent is certainly there and, if they continue to play the way they do, I’m sure some real concrete offers will come in for them.”

For the 10IAR season I'd much prefer an experienced CB (left footed preferable to give us a better 3-5-2 option) rather than yet another youngster. The heart of the defence should have an auld heid to stabilise the team. Ajer and Welsh are both still young and will improve training with a steadying influence. We shouldn't be looking at breaking the bank either but there may be decent players available where some clubs need to offload players for financial reasons.

Haven't seen sight or sound of the other American lads we bought.

He doesn't need to be a bargain Shadow2, he just needs to be incredibly good, after all he's going to be part of the Xiar

Well if he's a bargain at £5m I'm expecting him to be good Shammy 😜(y)

Spot on with what you said about the American bhoys, don't need anymore squad filler that we never clap eyes on again just for the sake of appearing to be busy in the transfer market. First team ready players for the positions that need filled or where back up is required only this time round.

How many strikers are we 'interested' in?
As many as we need Michael. With the 5 sub rule and the tight schedule another striker wouldn't be bad. If the 2 up front is to be used- and given the impact Griff had on Monday v Hibs -it makes sense. Polish Paddy upped his game when he had Griff with him. The thing is come December we have an extra game, semi, and another final we assume. this gives us 2 more games than Sevco. The need to rotate due to no winter break is essential, so an extra frontman, a right wing to cover Jamsie, (karamoko as good as he is will not be enough), Centre+2/right/ left backs also. But what the fuck I know about management? Fuckal but that's my thoughts. 🤯🔫
