Just got off the phone to my niece. She's been in tears all day. She has studied her backside off for her exams. She was expecting to get all As....obviously due to covid they couldn't do their exams so the grades where based on students previous work. My neice has been a grade A student throughout her school years...this morning she opened her results to find all Cs (she needed As to the uni she wanted to go to to do engineering)...turns out that they have decided to look at the school as a whole and grade all students based on schools previous results. 93% of Scottish students have been graded down. The other 7% graded up....doesn't take a genius to guess the students graded up are all fucking privately educated. Now my niece has to go through an appeals process to hopefully get a place she deserves and now has to fight for just because of the area she comes from. While some dump fucking idiot who comes from money won't have a care in the world. Disgraceful.

The education system is not working.

We have liars getting the top jobs cause its good management, Boris Johnsons types get socialism and access to free stuff paid for by the people who find it objectionable to live a lie.

And more than 50 percent of the UK agree with that philosophy.

I will say a prayer for your niece that she gets a proper appeal in time to get her preferred choice at University based on her skills rather than the average of her school.

I know nothing to do with football and a bit of a random rant but I'm just angry and sad for my niece...she's put so much work in the get the grades she needed 😔
It's a huge story up here Lubo, with the slant on the story being kids from poorer backgrounds are more likely to have suffered with their results, I don't know all the ins and outs of this story yet, but I see a real shit storm coming,
I hope your niece appeals this Lubo, there will be a lot of pressure on the government to fix this balls up, if there's any evidence of wrong doing found the someone's head should roll for this.

It's been a shambles, but again it seems no one is surprised, passes given out basically by school attended and consequently lower grades if your not from one of the "it"schools.

Hopefully it will be sorted on appeal Lubo, but with the amount of appeals going in it could stop some getting into uni this term.

Should have just been done on prelims imho.

If anyone is paying attention then you will know that this is an ongoing issue every year when the results are published .
Parents , pupils , teachers , the media .... everyone has a gripe . The system is not perfect - name one that is - but after the Appeals are considered then most faults are ironed out . But there will still be those who feel that they have been unfairly judged. That is the world we live in .

As for the Private /Public schools debate - that should have been dealt with long ago when Labour got into power - but sadly they were lead by a Tory ( Blair ) so nothing was done !

Make sure she appeals, what I was led to believe is that the teachers
of each subject decided on how they performed on the course work leading to the lockdown.

The end result is not just the exams, their performance all year is taking
into consideration when awarding the final grades.
The years course work is kept in record.

I cannot remember the percentage though.

Thank goodness I am past all that with my kids.I
Completely agree about the private education always considered
to be the highest performers.I am sure it will be sorted.

Yea but as Lubo said in his post, pupils at certain schools were downgraded because of the average results from that school in previous years. This is very a unfair system of grading and doesn`t appear to allow for any standout pupils.

Yes I completely agree it is very unfair, it is now up to the schools to pull
out all the stops and fight for the pupils who were projected to do well.

When my daughter sat her exams a few years ago,
her results were AAABC. her school told her to appeal the C as they
had foreseen a definite A....the school can intervene on your behalf.
The C was upgraded to B.
I know it is different circumstances as there were no exams but it should
be more relevant that each pupils performance in course work should be
taken into consideration definitely not the overall performance from the school
The only other thing I can think of is that in some areas of the subjects
the course work was not completed by the school.

Talking about no football rants...another one is getting accepted in certain
universities regarding the Medical Profession.
If you are from a family of Doctors and privately educated the chances are you will be accepted for you chosen Uni than someone from a poor
working class area ,if only two places who do you think will be successful.?
