Good films

I'm not saying it's an all-time great, but if you want a decent recent film then The Nightingale on Netflix is worth a watch. It's harrowing and might illicit some anti-English passion in you, but it's very good.
Larry 7,jjust downloading it now thanks! Also
Den of Thieves from Celtic man
Gerard Butler good movie nothing but the best from Gerard!

Filmed in Oregon, USA
Rugged, beautiful, scenery
Lee Marvin and all the others of his generation, Steve McQueen, Oliver Reed, Richard Harris, Peter O'Toole,Donald Sutherland, Edward Fox, some great performances back in the day
A few old books I read, and then watched the movie:
The Odessa File (Frederick Forsyth)
The Eye of the Needle (Ken Follet)
Day of the Jackal (Frederick Forsyth)
Don;t know if you'll find them online nowadays, but if you like spy and intrigue stuff, they're worth a read/watch
HH
Odessa file awesome read Dill as was the Jackal.
did the same read the book then watched the film
Papillon Schindler’s list and the Green mile
And you should read Tom Clancy was a great writer

Pity that part of our history was lost on the scots later down the line when the Irish came looking for refuge from the great hunger.
It is so an awful blight on our history. Sadly there are still too many ignorant idiots who still view desperate immigrants in the same way. I am so proud that my wee girl befriended a Syrian refugee in Primary 1 and they are still close friends 4 years later - she can't fathom why people would not show compasdion or empathy to others (ok - she doesn't use those very words).

How about Robert Ludlum, during my days in the Merchant Navy (38 years) books kept you sane and sober.
Solzhenitsyn with "One day in the life of Ivan Desinovich" and Gulag Archipelago.
Totally agree about books Tommy. I have just read The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, the maddest book I have ever read. The Devil and his entourage appear in 1930s Moscow......Jesus and Pontius Pilate end up pals.
Also two books by Vasilly Grossman, Stalingrad and Life and Fate, in that order cos one follows the other.
They are cheap on i books.

Watched UNTRACEABLE (2008) last night
Thriller, with Diane Lane in it
Kind of like Silence of the Lambs genre
And DEATH WISH (the new one with Bruce Willis) not as good as Charles Bronson's versions, but worth a watch
Older moves worth watching are The Long Good Friday (Helen Mirren, Bob Hoskins & Pierce Brosnan) my favourite British gangster move (1980)
Then my two all time favourites
The Dirty Dozen & The Great Escape two brilliant casts, and the story lines are great
Grab some popcorn and enjoy

Yes, the Scotties came over from Ireland to form Dalriada which then integrated with the indigenous Picts. We really are one nation separated by a sea.
I read an argument put forward by an Ulster Loyalist that the influx of Protestant farmers from Scotland in the 1600s was not an invasion by foreigners, it was an immigrant group (Scots) going back home!!! Like the sevvie song that wants us to go "home". What about those of us who have mixed Scots-Irish- Nordic DNA, where do we go?

Its all actually much more complicated than that if you take into consideration the full history

I couldn't believe half the stuff I didn't know and I can see why it doesn't get taught in schools

picts are allegedly immigrants from Black Sea (according to ancient history books)

Scotland used to be 5 Separate principalities right up to 1500 approx (what?????, ah know)

the highlands were partly Pictish
Partly Irish Gaels
Partly welsh Gaels
Partly Angles
And partly Norwegian (semi viking/gaels)

subdivided into Lothian angles
galloway and strathclyde Welsh/Briton gaels diaspora

islands from man right round to orkney shetland plus very north scotland Norwegian viking lords of the isles (some more Gaelic but mostly run by viking bloodlines

north of forth up to Aberdeen and Inverness picts

And argyle Ulster Scots/gaels

the island viking types even controlled Dublin

so its a giant mess

the ulster plantations were mostly gallwegian border reivers who were welsh britons mostly paid to create havoc in north of ireland

mostly were not Ulster Scots going home

mostly welsh diaspora brits with a Hunnish type of mind were theft is ok for them but not for you

created havoc between scotland and England till they were hired as mercenary class to invade ulster

but since they prefer making up history and some of them were from among the crooked mouth (thats what Campbell means in ancient language) Campbell clans of argyle and Ayrshire (again mostly welsh britons rather than Ulster Scots then just a fragment of truth is enough for the to claim it a fact.

No worries Mikey
I actaully had a half hour conversatio,n with Pierce Brosnan, after he made Mrs. Doubtfire (not my kind of film, but hey ho)
I ran into him through my job and he was a really nice, accomodating guy, very down to earth
I said "I saw a film you were in"
He said "Which one ?"
"Long Good Friday"
His face lit up, and he had a huge smile on his face: "Wasn't that a great movie ?"
He said "Glesga, (in a broad Scottish accent) I love the place !!!"
Hard to imagine that a few years later, he'd be the new 007
A good memory for me, for sure
