Board has to have a seriously look at next year !!!!!

Boyata

not the greatest cb in world

imo miles better stronger faster than any of our current centre backs, but still error prone in our system.

let go free but next dude is mark down due to restrictions on wages imposed by subsidy system at top tier leagues
Think your over complicating things a wee bit TET, I understand with buying any player there is a risk factor.
I believe we first of all will need a manager were you can feel comfortable and have a trust in.
Second we would need to invest in a few players we can look at for keeping for the long term, instead of the sell on value we are currently working under.
This has bought us great success of late on the domestic front but still the same failures in Europe remain.
We have backed ourselves into a corner now, with so many potentially going to leave next summer, hopefully not to many beforehand.
We still have a fairly good crop of players who will still remain hopefully and that new quality should still keep us strong, but in the world of football things can always change very quickly, and you would expect a board to be ready to handle and plan for such changes

Never trusted him ,always felt he was a player capable of a massive fuckup at any moment. If hes stronger than our current Cbs then god help us because he was easily bullied.Did have some decent games for us right enough 😂
I never seen him bullied once

his physical strength and speed were top tier

his passing and complacency were weak

but exacerbated by our system

since our system requires top top grade defenders

we only have average grade defenders

Boyata was a tower of power imo

I dont doubt our ability to be strongest team even with new recruits, since all teams are bound by same restrictions in scotland, in theory

But gelling takes time

And comfort on pitch takes games

both run risk of losing expected win matches in short term

and the chase becomes harder since at least 1 team in league is grade above all others except us

turnover in players hands advantage to opps in any given season

trying to increase strength of overall unit with limited budget is hard, especially if you already have many players in team getting less than they could earn elsewhere but too much for sustainability here

Sorry TET must be a different Boyata you watched because that guy was not physically strong 😂Seen him shoved off the ball by far smaller players but everybody sees things differently

It hasnt affected the Huns
Has not affected the huns because this is the first time they have tasted winning, my post was the physcological effect one a team who are used to wiining and how you adapt when things are not going to plan, cannot see the huns been physically or mentally strong should the enivitable befall them, that only comes with winning.
Also you state players wanting away from the club, only place you will read that is the SMSM, so until players come out on the Celtic sites anjd state they want away then suppose anything goes in the rags and who would be talking to the rags, certainly will not be the player or the agent, not really a good time to attempt to fuck amn employer about with the uncertainties surrounding football. I will trust that the huns will suffer a slip and will wager the players and Celtic talk to no-one re rumours.

I would need to see the examples

I seen him deliberately show off his strength against strong players at corners by intimidation by shoving them and the look on their chops when they felt his shove

not overly aggressive but enough to make the dude think twice

he was sloppy on ball at times but never out ran or shoved off ball that I ever remember

was prone to imbalance at speed but no more than any other player

but his nerves or lack of awareness and poor passing gifted chances that didn't exist

but strength

no sure we ever had a physically stronger player

big bobo maybe stronger but close imo

he was thin but super strong

fast but shit at pressure passing and positioning was suspect at times

Maybe we have to just sit down and analyse that the team who are challenging are going all in and this poses a new problem to address. So maybe its a matter of accepting every game points now is a prisoner and only when there is clear daylight can experiments within the squad take place.

Only the manager knows at what fitness levels some of the squad are at and the levels been targeted, have noticed a lot of twinges and hamstrings and this imo is simply due to the extended break and quickness to get the games back on, that as a result there was no pre season or holidaying to get the feel good factor gelling. Training at home and then atempting to emulate last season takes time if the mental and physical training is adjusted by covid default.

But there is no doubt now the team should be looking at a settled format and it should be a format that permitts players coming back and players just in the door and now ready to slot right into. Covid also has upset the ability to have behind close door games that would allow players to get their sharpness back in tune. Due to covid everything is recorded for bubble protocols and nothing can be done on the hoof or ad hoc.
Think there is still a few mental challenges players are facing caused by the changing working conditions that they have never been used to, all the games now is centred round the player having to motivate himself when there was times he could rely on the crowd to drive him through the last minutes, marathon runners suffer in races when they hit the imaginery in their head wall and it takes years to conquer this mental block that seperates the pros from the also rans, players are experiencing this, I believe, and are just now slowly starting to adapt to the surroundings they play in.

Thats my take anyway and i could be so wrong, but the conditions they perform under in 2020 is not normal and must be strangely eerie when they play.
I agree that the team has slowly started to adapt to no fans at games. Some such as Laxalt could end up playing for us without witnessing a full voice Celtic park. Weird.

Agree about him fannying about on the ball and when he got pressed he did panic at times but not the super strong bit,a super strong CB to me is VVD,Mjalby,Bobo

Where do we go at the end of this season.I just hope the 10 and Cups are secured this season and we can all take a look at the future, here is my own personal view.I think the board need to set out a four year plan so we are not running around trying to sign players and get loan players in at the last minute , we need a settled squad to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League which we havnt done for the last four seasons.

My understanding is that the players listed below want to move on so let them go at the end of the season provided we get proper transfer fees. My suggestions .
Kris Ajer £15,000,000
Ryan Christie £15,000,000
Odsonne Edouard £30,000,000
Oliver Ntcham £10,000,000
Callum Mc Gregor £20,000,000
---------------------------------------
Total income £90,000,000

I would let Shane Duffy and Moi Elyounoussi go at the end of the season saving the club a further £80,000 a week in wages.
and I would sign Diego Laxalt on a four year deal.I would let Scott Brown take over the management and coaching of one of the under age teams.

I would employ a new proven manager who would bring a competent back room staff with him.He would control all transfer matters with the director of football. He would have a war chest of £90,000,000 to buy players.

A new C.E.O. would be good he would run the day to day business of the club and keep him out of the football matters including the trasfer dealings.I think Peter has run his course,a nice job for the right canditate £3,000,000 a year.
If Dermot Desmond is the business man that we all thing he is needs to have serious look at the overall picture of the club.

Even after selling the want away players we have the basis of good squad for a new manager to take over including
Scott Bain, Vasilas Barkas, Conor Hassard,

Jeremie Frimpong, Hatem Abd Elhamed, Srephen Welsh, Anthony Ralston, Christopher Jullian, Nil Britton, Deago Laxalt, Greg Taylor,
David Turnbull, Ismail Soro, Luca Connell, Tom Rogic, Ewan Henderson, Karamoko Dembele,

James Forrest, Leigh Griffith, Albian Ajeti. Patryk Klimala, Micky Johnston,
Plus whatever players are out on loan and a £90,000,000 budget.

These are just my personal views and no doubt everyone will have their own views on the way forward for our club.
I might have a go at Peters job when it is advertised but i wont hold my breath .Hail Hail ;)
Very optimistic in players worth Derry bhoy, we won't get 30mil for Edouard, 20 mil Calmac no way. As for the rest drop your estimations 5mil. As for 90 mil budget it is my believe you have hit the Xmas sherry early. 😆😆😆

[/QUOTE TET
This again is back to our transfer policy of buy cheap and pay moderate wages only to be open to richs elsewhere and a profit in the bank. That profit can be misleading as you also have to offset it against the one's who have not made the grade at Celtic.
We do operate on a low risk factor on players, but I think we need to change and invest better in a player we can have for the long term instead of this 2 or 3 season at the most.
We also could do at looking at players we are recruiting as Turnbull is our best example, did lenny really want him? If so why is he not playing? Is ntcham that much better than him? If he is which I doubt then there is more money wasted.
Panic loan signings should not be a policy we seem to want to depend upon cause we still seem to scared to invest properly.

we dont operate on low risk factor imo

we spend more than we can afford in wages already with these so called potential

but to get better in moment first team ready players costs more than we currently spend which is break even or minimal profit at moment

if we cant afford to hold top grade players then there are no better value better risk players in our price range imo

duffy is supposedly higher grade international on wages we cant afford

as is elyounousi

are these guys low risk?

cause better than them costs even more

and I dont see them as much better than the cheaper wage potentials who also feel underpaid by our excessively risky wages

90 mil???
Yous Derry hooers were always half mad!

We've won 9 titles in a row, could be quad treble winners next month so we're doing something right!

The biggest disappointment for me is some of absolute dross we've signed in the last 5/6 years, millions wasted on players just not good enough, far too many to name them all!

Then theres our failure to qualify for the champions league losing to bang average sides we should be beating year after year!Something needs to change because we keep making the same mistakes.

If theres players that want out then get them sold and bring in quality, guys with the same attitude as Laxalt who lets face it has showed more heart than anyone so far this season!Hope we get him signed on a permanent contract.
I think the reason laxalt is playin well is because he can't speak English and doesn't understand a word Lennon is sayin and he's just saying to himself fuck it I'll just play the I know how.

bag lawwell and bring in somebody with a back-bone and an accounting degree and pay them 500k, then you've another 2.5 in the pot

I hope Lenny does the Ten with us and agrees with his earlier assertion that there is a shelf-life for a Celtic manager and gets to leave of his own choice.
Whatever we do we need to bring in as good a manager as we possibly can. I'd rather pay a quality manager £5 million a year and not buy 2 project players.
If you analyse the Invincible Year and thereafter up to Lennon coming in, that guy brought 'it'. Change of ethos/change of mindset /fitness/tactics ? the answer i'm not sure.
But he got the best possible out of the guys that were there and took their game to another level and thats what our success has been built on. We were up against nothing but you could see the marked improvement in those that were struggling under previous managers. Qualified for CL twice and got us much needed finance. Signings were suspect. Performances towards the end were at times questionable. He fucks off but look where he is now. Whatever we think of him, he's got it.
If we get the right manager in, the rest almost takes care of itself. But we really need to push the boat out to match our expectations.

I agree with a lot of your points but no way we can afford a £90m budget. The prices for some of the players seems high - Ajer for example will be going into the last year of his contract. I'd be doing my best to hang onto Calum MacGregor too.

But definitely need a proper long-term strategy and to actually play the players we've spent £millions on.
Mibbess if were lucky we'll get laxalt and ajer goes the other way, straight swap minimal monies involved (if milan want him and it looks like they're interested) we will do well to get €10 million for ajer though hes worth double that.

No one can live under that kind of pressure for too long , if lenny , no , when lenny delivers he can disappear into the sunset job done and live out his life as a legends legend god knows for what hes given this club he deserves it. Still it brings into question who will be next Celtic manager after him , there wont be a slippy to go up against as he'll go at the first decent opportunity , the board had better be planning for this. Only I'm allowed to sit on my arse and ponder during Lockdown #2

Some of your ideas are good but you or I will never see the day Celtic give any manager a £90 million budget , even if we were invited into the EPL it would be years before that happened. Also even if the players that you mentioned bring in 90 million in transfer fees the manager wouldnt see half of it. It's the pond our club swim in and big 5 league clubs are only now starting to pay decent money and still it's way off market value. Take Edouard, he is probably the most exciting young french player to emerge since mbappe but playing in Scotland takes away zeros from his value, a move to france would add some but for his real value hed have to be sold from england germany italy or spain . They might call it the big 5 but really it's a bigger 4 (though the Portuguese seem to do not bad , the big 3 clubs). The petrol/Arab oil clubs in France aside those other clubs arent even close to the likes of Newcastle when it comes to wealth.
