This came up as a memory on Facebook from 7 years ago of my wee quine and my fantastic dog (who share a birthday). I still love it and my dog is still obsessed with chasing balls (maybe she sjould become our new defensive coach???).

Quine is mainly Doric - the dialect used around about Aberdeen where I now live. My wife uses it all the time - I usually say lass or lassie so not sure why I wrote that. And yes, it is used a lot in Sunset Song which is set in the Mearns between Angus and Aberdeenshire.

The dog is a Bearded Collie/Labrador cross. We thought she'd look more scruffier like a Labradoodle but she is like a rough coated long-legged Lab. She is the sweetest dog ever and lying next to me getting a clap now, and she is best pals with our 2 cats.

Is it pronounced qwean/quain ? Similar to the Weedgie 'weans' which i use ?

The pic reminded me of a Lab we had for a summer. My brother walked in one day, joiner for Council, had to break a door down to let two druggies into their house. Saw wee dog, could sit in palm of his hand, in a house with puddles/shit everywhere. Took the dog away and brought home. Mum and dad say no chance to keeping him. That night it was farting and going round in circles to see where the noise was coming from. We got to keep him for summer. Great dogs, super-loving and intelligent.
A trip down memory lane for me

They are great dogs. And it is pronounced kwyne (rhymes with shine).

My first real pet(not including a goldfish) was a lab for my Xmas. I was about 14. He had an awesome pedigree(his grandad won Crufts retriever) plus so many other champions. Truth is none of that mattered. He was my best friend. The most affectionate and loving guy. Unless you were a stranger in the house. He would let them in but wouldn't let them out! Dragging them by the trouser leg down the hallway was a common thing. Always missed.

Me and my Dad finally conned my Mum into getting our first dog when I was 12. She would only accept a Labrador as we lived in Forfar which is the where all the Guide Dogs in Scotland come from. He was brilliant and nowadays I would always have a mixed breed with a Lab in there. (My Mum is now the biggest dog fan in the world these days)

I always wondered why dogs do that.
My pal had heard a noise one night and went downstairs, the dog had a burglar by the balls
They let them in so they could have fun.
