What Message Would You Like to Send to Peter Lawwell and the Celtic Board

14 word rul....

Ah fuck it

I've read loads of posts loads of opinions and there is one thing that keeps repeating over and over, as a major part of the celtic family and the celtic support we aren't happy with the current situation and by this I mean the leadership of the club, I know that PL has been a good CEO for a long time, but in business as well as sport the failure to input new ideas and new thoughts is the equivalent of going backwards, so our defacto owner has to accept some of the responsibility as well. But I digress, change is needed, we were in a position of power and we blew it, PL must go, a structure that is more in line with modern ideas and practices must be implemented or we will be relegated into the annals of history like 3rd lanark.

You had my agreement right up until the end with the the third larnark part. Also not only were Celtic in a position of power we still are. Losing the title one season in 10 doesnt mean a power shift, Celtic are still the powerhouse club and the incredible run of consecutive titles has come to an end , for a season . Celtic going the way of third larnark is ludicrous the club are amongst the top 50 in the world with a buy to sell business model, one that's very successful. That's not what's wrong with the club. It needs an overhaul in the football side of the equation and has done since it was never addressed when Rodgers left.

My remark re third lanark was meant as a warning!! We will become irrelevant in European football if we don't become more forward thinking, one thing I believe is that we risk losing both our reputation and our relevance as a club like no other , we changed the face of football in "67" we showed the world that the way forward was style, verve and swagger, an outlook that birthed the total football of teams like Ajax, not the anti-football of Walter Smith. So if Celtic continues to downgrade it's targets of being just a good business rather than the club I grew up supporting, I really worry about our future.

I agree an excellent post Mancbhoy.
i think we should not be using Sevco as a benchmark we should like Jock, Shankly and busby be looking towards European success.
I agree that Celtic have lost their way and there is great need to re-evaluate the structure and priorities of Celtic fc.

Sorry I seem to be hogging this thread but I agree that it is the football side of the club that needs overhauled, but this will not happen while PL is ceo, we need to be more open to new ideas, we need a board who are able accept that the current business plan of developing players just to sell them on should only be a part of the way forward, and that bringing in player only for their potential future sale is shortsighted, most players want 2 things, the challenge and financial security. So if we want to keep our best players for more than a few years we need to be more inventive in giving them a reason to stay longer.

Message to the board

I would like to be a millionaire.

I can sit on the bench and although I am ill I genuinely dont think I could make our defence any more porous.

I could play in goals and flap about or defence and let people run past me or even on the wing coz I cant actually pass the ball very well or shoot.

I can also just sit in the stand and get good seat to watch the games instead long with the other millionaires you create and just give them seat in the stand and free tickets for their mates.

just give me a cheque for 1 million pounds and ill play anywhere you like for life.

yours sincerely

Tarzan

ps I have never been to dubai

it looks great

Go and go now.
Yet again, we have not heard from the Celtic board. It’s left to Gavin Strachan to face the media. The only time we hear from the board is when the season tickets need renewed. Or when we win something.
That won’t be happening for a while.
The Huns bring out statements every other day and get things done for them. Our board just sit in their ivory towers and do nothing. Getting well paid for it too🤬 Not heard a thing from Dermot Desmond. He doesn’t even go the AGMs. Ian Bankier comments on the statement at the AGM. That’s it. That’s all he does. And Peter Lawwell??? Where do I start? When we get new sponsors he’s all across the media. When we win something. The same. Any sign of trouble?. NOTHING. The club is a disgrace and they treat the fans like dirt. All they’re interested in is their themselves.

I gave an awful lot of credit to Lawwell for sponsorship deals like the Adidas deal. But thinking more about it I realised I was giving him far too much credit. Remember when he started we had a strip deal with Nike who were global leaders - I remember visiting the Nou Camp superstore and there was Celtic merchandise in there. Since then we have had a few cut price deals with lesser suppliers (OK, maybe not Castore, but not far above them).

And even this deal with Adidas is not really thanks to Lawwell and his amazing persuasion and negotiations - he is merely standing on the shoulders of giants like Malley and Stein who created Celtic as a globally recognised "brand". It is mostly because of their efforts and successes that Adidas were so keen to add our fabled club to their stable.

Im no sure they made cunt of it though.

9 in row with quad treble is hardly making cunt of it.

perhaps they ran club to much like a proper business, but thats hardly a crime really, thats the least they could do.
Well, of recent memory, we should have signed McGinn and kept Gordon & Jozo. also he should never have employed our manager in a fecking shower, and even if he did, it should never have been made public knowledge.

He could have actually pushed the boat out and strengthened us for the biggest season of our lifetimes, instead of bean-counting and short-changing long time servant's like Gordon, a position still not filled, that is as much a factor in this season's downfall as any other reason.

He could have spoken for us on the many, many issues we care about and asked hom to be our voice.

Dodgy decisions, referees in Rangers pubs after a Derby, rez 12, the 5-way etc, or a million other such issues, instead of treating us like lemmings with cash.

He has made a Cunt of it. They all have.

They've allowed an infant Club with an infant Manager to stop the 10.

It's unforgivable, and it's enough.

McGinn chose AV

Our wage budget doesnt allow us to sign beyond a certain wage level and level depends on the managers input on role in squad. Rodgers ear marked McGinn as bit part future project, he wanted first team wages. he got paid more by AV than we could afford even if we wanted him as first choice centre mid. And if he really wanted to sign for celtic he knew we all wanted him. He chose what he felt was best for him and his family and future.

I like McGinn

But McGinn chose first team guarantee and bigger wages than we can afford.

Gordon was good keeper but he was getting older and keeping him instead of signing a new younger keeper would be called biscuit tin approach.

I like gordon but again we have a wage budget, turns out barkas has not really been great value, but hindsight is wonderful.

Jozo was too injury prone, again I rated him but he was often missing through injury, turns out duffy has not been good value for money but again hindsight is great.

Celtic are constrained by wage income ratio,

Its a crucially vital factor in signing players

McGinn met with Rodgers and agreed in principle to join Celtic, with a transfer price and wages which were well within Celtic's budget. Lawwell then fecked around refusing to meet the agreed purchase price thinking he was being smart trying to save a bit of money (I am not knocking negotiating for the best possible deal, as I do this all the time in day job, but more the lack of urgency). After weeks of dawdling and inactivity McGinn got informed of the bid from Aston Villa. When travelled down to AV he phoned Celtic to advise that his preference was to join Celtic - McGinn has still never received that return phone call.

Is that factual

If he agreed in principle was he asking for bigger wage in light of new interest?

And if he agreed in principle and Celtic were his preferred destination should Celtic then change the principle agreed to pay him more than treble what he would have got under the terms of agreed principle.

facts we know are McGinn was not Guaranteed first team here, he might have stagnated sitting on our bench, he made a call that paid him more than we could comfortably afford at time given Rodgers vision for the player.

He made a decision based on guarantee from AV he would be a main player with good wage at a level that would test him and imo

he made the call that was best for his career at that time.

I would have had mcginn

I would have had him when he was at st mirren

But he chose AV

At time he was not even guaranteed to be on our bench

Fair enough TET but you leave out one vital point.
If you really want a player then get the deal done ASAP.
We all know we can be outbid on wages on offer, but that counts for nothing once a player signature is on a contract.
This policy of PL traitor trying to be the del boy of the transfer market when he is only a wanker, has cost us players and will remain so all the time the no nothing fuck is involved

Aye agree with that only problem is that we play in a backwater league thats slowly regaining its reputation but has little finance coming in. We have to look forward like you say I also think that we have to stop looking backwards just as much at the golden era , the landscape has changed so much that we have as much financial clout as an English championship club. We probably have more money than most of them but dont have the security of skys cash which is pathetically low in comparison to the english top 2 tiers. We also have to drop the ' we should be beating' this club or that club in Europe mentality for that's cost us as well. Its going to take time to sort out the mess of this season which has been coming for a while. There will be casualties on the way but the reboot is required now. The longer we dither the worse it will get.
