Celtic v Hibernian, Monday 11th January 7.45pm

Given the prep time and the shock of what happened to the squad yesterday, it was actually decent...not saying it's acceptable or that im happy but given all the circumstances.....an all that
I think all the youngsters and most of the older heads did well yesterday given the bizarre self-inflicted circumstances we found ourselves in. Even young Harper gave his all even if he has a long way to go (of course he does - they have no development football to play and he hasn't been on the pitch for our first team before). Unfortunately our inability to defend set-pieces was our undoing in the end.

The league has gone, the Scottish Cup going head is now in doubt so we have a unique opportunity here to bed in our youngsters, sell the folk who don't want to be here, maybe buy a couple of key players and give a new management team a free 6 month run at it with nothing to lose so we are up to speed for the middle of July.

When you say Celtic, I hope you mean Lawwell. Tonight a makeshift team went out and held their own that is Celtic, the bored, sorry board, are not. I watched a few young lads give their all in what was always a hard ask. A draw, yes, but I'm at the end of my tether where our hierarchy are concerned. Let the Bhoys play and support them all the way. Let the Board please simply fade away.
Terrific post Nick66, I'll never fault any player who accepts the chance to wear the hoops, even if it's obvious they're not quite good enough. I do however, fault whoever makes the decision to sign those players.Therein lies the crux of this miserable season, millions wasted on players who are making next to no contribution.. As for our own home grown youngsters, I'll not be in too much of a hurry to criticise them either. They are the victims of a bad recruitment policy too. As Nick66 says they gave their all, we really can ask no more of them. The " work in progress" policy has failed miserably. Lack of ambition and forward planning from our board has brought this season to our door. They make the major decisions, they should carry the can.

What sort a team would the huns put out with 13 players missing, and I think in that ,the most annoying ,we have a better squad than them ,but we have just not performed, this season has just been one fuck up after another ,a wish they would just end it and put us out our misery

Looking back on last night, and leaving aside the clusterfuck that led to more than half a first team squad missing, it highlighted that the some of the youngsters who came in, Harper, Okoflex and Dembele, are not even close to being ready to challenge for first team squad. They need to go out on loan and get plenty of game time. There's no reserve/development football (other than Glasgow Cup) so have had next to no games since March.
Those who have been out on loan, whether successfully or not, have shown that they are ready to challenge for first team. Welsh in particular had a very good game, Henderson has also done well on the few occasions we've seen him this season.
Our youth set up is a shambles, has been for years, and the inactivity of young players will only make it even more unlikely that they will eventually make the first team. Harper, Okoflex, Dembele, Connell and any others who have been training and not playing for months should be being sent out on loan as a priority.

But do you think these players should have been eased into the first team group and had a few minutes on the pitch ,i look at Henderson he did great against Hearts when lenny took over then dropped never heard from and he did the same against Lile dropped straight afterwards
Pitching them in last night when they weren't up to speed was a huge risk but i thought they did brilliantly and they may do just as good against livi but i would bet lennon will dump them back into the development team

That's a bit of a myth tbh...he is a decent player who is working to get better and is one I feel that is deserving of a first team slot...his final product is one that our coaches should be pushing him to improve.. obviously they are inept.

This season with 9 subs named and being able to play 5 should have meant that at least 1, maybe 2 could be on the bench every week and get many short substitute appearances. Keep 2 or 3 training with the first team to be part of match day squad and insist on the others go out on loan. That way you maximise game time for young players with the 'best' 2 or 3 getting regular run outs with our first team.

Exacty Gary. And we didn't need the benefit of hindsight - we've been speaking about this on here long before football got close to restarting after the footballing authorities passed this. Instead we wasted the opportunity by bringing on the same old faces in the 87th minute of matches. What a wasted opportunity to develop these players.

Still mathematically possible when covid has been seen to ruin the season so far for other teams in the SPFL, and as it will not be the stopping of the game as long as a team, any team regardless can go on the park so yep.

Whit aboot 'still mathematically possible?
You never know ,it might be them to have positive covid test ,so it could happen ,I can't imagine them fielding a team as strong as ours against Hibs with 13 players out,but you know if one of theirs is possitve I'll guarantee there won't be 16 having to isolate, they are to clever for that to happen, our dream of 10 is over ,but I would like to see their reaction to 2\3 bad results
Whit aboot 'still mathematically possible?
