A new element of fans

You seem to be wilfully missing the point I was making to you Docco. Which was...Lenny created those headlines by saying what he said in that interview and that's on him, he knew fine well how his words would be reported but he chose to open those old wounds anyway instead of just leaving it be.

Nobody was talking about any of this until Lenny made it a talking point all over again!
I have to agree and disagree shadow

Everyone had right to speak whether we like what is said or not. Not speaking because people might twist your words is a bad path to follow. We should be calling them out for twisting his words not calling him out for the words they’ve twisted

where I agree with you is he’s an intelligent man and there was no remorse shown for his part in this season. I’d rather he came out and told the whole truth rather than try to play on the edges but I suspect he’s had to sign a non disclosure as part of his pay off.
secondly he didn’t beat lazio or win trophies on his own. He was part of a team that won games and trophies. So if we’re going to dig him out for that, we must also take a similar view when we lose.

This legend status is thrown around to freely these days imo.
To gain real legend status means a total respect for all they have given to the club.
Not a time for me to use such a term for NFL atm but that may change in time when the damage he has helped to create gets repaired, but he will be waiting a long if he continues to slate the supporters, from me anyway
22 wins as player and manager
First player then manager to win treble
We can all go on about competition etc but Lenny like broony has gained immortality at this club through his success
We’re they as good as lions ... nope
But footballs changed and our circumstances have too
50 years from now kids like we did will be poring over statistics like this
And their grandads won’t be sitting saying aye but rangers died etc
Facts stand the test of time not the accompanying story

Yes times have changed STG and big money has taken its toll I believe.
I agree that the stats will stand the test of time but as you say the story might be lost but the emotions behind everything Celtic will not the generations to follow in our footsteps hopefully will remember their roots.
I’m not denying NL achievements but the story of this season’ collapse will be written about for generations to come. The same way as Jock Stein was ahead of his time in football management and took us to 1967 win.

John it may be a good while before he gets legendary status. I have no objection to calling him a celtic man, but he hasn't proved to me that he belongs in a list of men like Mcneil or Burns whose whole life revolved around our club. If we look at Tommy Burns a man that even the huns paid tribute to can we put him and NFL, in the same bracket. I didn't start this thread to try to put NFL down, but to try to express my disappointment in his joining a list of ex - employees who are only too quick in attacking the club.

John we had to deal with Big Jocks last season. ..Vic Davidson and Co. ..cmon...I have no fear from that shite across the path. Get back on the horse ...We are Celtic 💪💚👍🍀
I love your optimism M7, I really do. And thankfully yes, WE ARE CELTIC. But.....aye there's usually a "but" isn't there?....We have allowed ourselves to backside into mediocrity. Not for nothing are we 25 points behind the the incumbents of castle greyskull. I too am optimistic regarding our future, but sadly the realist in me has to say it will take longer than any of us would like. The task ahead for the new gaffer and his staff is simply massive. He'll need something like three or four transfer windows before we see any meaningful change. Don't get me wrong M7, I'm not in anyway dreading the next season or two, in fact, I'm looking forward to it. I'm simply acknowledging our situation as I see it. Goes without saying. I really do want to be proved wrong. Looks to me like we are in need of what is almost a complete rebuild, it will take many things to fall into place before it can be successful. The first of those things is, of course, the right manager. The second is a major change in the clubs level of ambition. Easy eh ? I wish ! HH.

Lenny was answering a question put to him by the interviewer...he answered, correctly...calling out the scumbags who acted the way they did....Daily Record gets story...creates divisive headline... mainstream news readers get upset...go on message boards...complain loads

Maybe it's an age thing......naw, never mind "maybe"..... but I really did try to allow a time to process some of the stuff I used to read on MSM. Hardly read them these days. In the interest of fairness I have to say I've not read the interview, so this post could very well be wide of the mark.

What I would like to say though, is if Lenny WAS referring to the idiots who thought it was ok to throw things at anybody, then, I can only say I agree with him. I've already stated on another post I'll never identify with folk like that. Don't really care what colours they're wearing. A moron is a moron. HH.

That’s roughly what he said frank.
He said he was bewildered by these supporters actions after the first trophy in 13 was lost and didn’t think it was fair considering the success they had just experienced.
In no way did he generalise the Celtic support, just these idiots.

He actually called them a new breed. I was as disgusted as anyone with their actions. Not making excuses but don't think we would have seen that pre lockdown. If those fans were at the game they would have vented their anger there. Along with most of the crowd too btw.
Lennon had it easy without fans in the ground and the outcry would have been that loud he would have been given his jotters well before Christmas.
The players would have got it in the neck too, instead of the lazy insipid displays we witnessed, And they all would have deserved it.

Again. Each to their own. We can't start telling people who should be legends or not. I believe he has tarnished his status. If he'd walked away and gave the club a chance under a new guy then maybe....but not for me anymore....

Another reason why his legacy is tarnished for me....he chose to work with one hand behind his back....he put a pay packet ahead of the club he loves.....be a fan. Tell us what the board are doing to our club and walk away...don't stay and assist the board in downsizing for the sake of a wage. Larsson said he would want more experience before joining the hoops. He put his legacy before his pocket.
So true. If he cared that much he would have walked long ago. Loved him as a player but got me that is gone from what HE done to us this year. His arrogance now is so sad, acting like a hun with the total brassneck. Very tragic.

I agree 100%
We’ve suffered much darker periods before but never acted in that way
So in essence he’s right and we agree however it’s dressed up
They are all lucky but I have my doubts the season would have turned out that way for him and us if there were supporters there
We’ll never know though brim

Maybe he could have dropped in that although he disagreed with the fans he understood their anger. Also, I don't believe the guy has the right to judge anyone when it comes to the values of the club. Here is a guy taking millions from celtic, along with his paymasters, criticising ordinary men and woman who have paid a lot of cash into something they love in the full knowledge they weren't even going to get to see them play.....sitting there giving an interview to a media who actively seek to give our club a fucking bad name at any opportunity. Yes Neil, you have fuck all in common with the fans, nothing at all. The fans spend their hard earned money on Celtic. You took and took. And now you go after this "new breed" for daring to get angry. And when NL has his cushy media job will he pay for his seat at paradise.....Will he fuck!!!
I bet you he doesn’t spend hundreds of dollars in the club shop every year to like me and you

I feel I have clarify my point here folks, I have absolutely no problem with people protesting about something they feel strongly about. Believe me, I was an angry young man, ( forget WAS, I'm now an angry old man ) but when those idiots amongst the vast majority of GENUINE Celtic supporters started throwing things, they lost the right to respect. HH

Winter my point of view is that he shouldn't have been given the opportunity for a 2nd time. He seems to think that it was everybody's fault apart from him. He brought up the fact that he was not given his own backroom team but just what he inherited. In that case he should have stood up for himself and refused to accept it. It has gotten to the stage we're he has refused to accept any of the blame for how the season progressed. I'm sorry but it seems to me that as a "legend" surely the club goes before personal glory. I do understand that some of our supporters are very fond of him and understand the shit that he has had to put up with. BOMBS BULLITS ASSAULTS.All atrocious I think we'll agree. I don't know if these events are the reason why a number of our supporters are reluctant to speak I'll of him but let's just look at the job he did last season. He was reluctant to try different players, he couldn't seem to be able to change tactics, personnel, team structures and motivation. These were not the fault of the new element of fans. So again I will have to say sorry but not a legend. His ego got in place of his ability. HH
In the long uninterrupted history of of club only one man has won a treble as player and manager one fd up season shouldnt detract from that . My opinion many may disagree with that but I'm of the mindset I dont know what more than that makes you a legend at the club . Many players have got legendary status like paul mcstay for example yet he didnt come close to the honours won by Lennon. This is not legend being thrown around to people who dont deserve it. Lennon deserves it nothing will convince me otherwise HH
