No marquee signings

Well BR announces there won’t be any marquee signings in this window,we probably already knew that but still disappointing to hear.He says,I don’t think that’s how the club works “The model of the club is value and maximising that value and talent and development and seeing it grow at the club.In this day and age with the level Scottish footballs at that’s fair enough but it sounds like we’re not going to move any further forward.A big concern here is that the managers signings so far haven’t been what we’d hoped for and if this is the clubs ambition then BR will probably consider his future.I’m not expecting £10 million pound signings but if we keep going down this road then the current squad gets less and less experience which is never good.We still need quality with a proven track record at a decent level if not we’re asking for trouble.I also feel that a club of our size should be signing at least one £5/6 million pound player a season.HH

While the board have fucked up a good few transfers with their parsimony I kinda think he knew what he was getting into when he came.
He got 9m to spend on 1 player and let's be honest the jury is out on that one still. The rest of his signings have been shite on the whole.
For me he's proved he's a better manager than Ronnie but the longer he stays the less effective he'll become. It will suit both him and the board if he goes in the summer.

Marquee signings have never worked for Celtic anyway. Gravesen etc.

Even big names who've played well for us (Bellamy, Keane x2) didn't change the course of history.

When Sutton, Hartson and Thompson came they arrived with a point to prove.

Give me unheard of has beens like Lubo or that dud we bought to replace Di Canio - Larsson, his name was ✊?

In going for 10, would the summer be an ideal time to trap someone new?

Not sure on that one.

Sutton,Hartson and Thompson were marquee and as much as they had a point to prove they did work.Did they not win titles and help get us To Seville?.Do you class that as not working?.HH

I was never expecting big marquee signings as we have a good track record of signing nobody’s and turning them into somebody’s.But surely we can part with £5/6 million a season on a player who’s around about 25 with a bit of proven experience.I know we got Ntcham and French eddy but they’re works in progress and we’re not sure how much we’ll get if anything when they move on.We still need experience and a winning mentality but sometimes that costs money and surely the champions league could supplement that?.HH

I’m feeling pretty positive about our new signings but another concern of mine is were are we looking for players.Surely with our resources we have the capability of getting players who’ve played in the top leagues with further down teams.Even the English championship, there’s quality there and we always have the carrot of the champions league.I’d love to know how our scouting/recruitment process works?.HH

Like I say,a proven track record,HH

Some players not great elsewhere but scotland suits and the other way around stubhoy.

To be fair to you. Yes ye get nothing for nothing and yes we should be able to spend that. Plus the wages.

There are a lot of overrated players on daft cash who are good for bench warming though.

Would like to see a great product that excites me on the pitch but also want my club secure for longevity too.

Balancing act pal. ☘️

Don't get some Celtic fans at times. Club is in a stronger position finacaliy than at any time in it's history, biggest sponsorship in Scottish football history (thanks peter) and what do you hear no big dosh spent on has beens! Fuckin get real man! This club is built on a business model that is sustainable.without Europe when will people start to realise this. Buy low devolpe sell high! Foster, hopper, wanyama, Ki, Armstrong, van diyk,Dembele, ..thats what we have to do to and still be top dogs. HH

I love your attitude Maria, total positivity, you should’ve been a coach for the hoops. My dad’s been going for decades and hates any negativity regarding the hoops.I just don’t understand how sometimes we can pay £3 million for Boerrigter and can’t part with the necessary funds for someone like Mcginn. We’ve a strange recruitment policy sometimes and as a supporter i’’d like to have faith in our people who’s looking for players. We don’t mind competition but as supporters we need reassurance that our hierarchy have the best interests of the club and supporters at heart.Big bonuses for employees when we don’t get to the champions league leave a bad taste in the mouth of someone who’s worked 5 nightshifts to take themselves and they’re children week in week out.We definitely need some positive results when we’re back up and running, both home and away and would be good for a prolonged period in the Europa league,HH

We’re maybe I’m a good position financially but with regards to our future development and signing policy, well it remains to be seen what the full strategy is.HH

Totally agree but we have to understand we are a stepping stone for a lot of players that will come and go.and bring our own players thru the Ranks while still being the top Club
No mean feat. HH

For new recruites it is hard because as a support we are demanding but most of us are realistic.Domestically we expect but the expectations need to be put across in a form that means progression, succession and realism. As much as we are a stepping stone, new recruits need to realise that Celtic could give them accreditation as well as honours and a true understanding of how lucky they are.HH

I remember 92 only too well. We were all cacking it and worried sick. TF for the bunnet who wanted to make sure it never happened again.

Well said Galway. ??

You misunderstand me. They were brilliant.

My point was they arrived off-form (which is why we could afford them): Sutton scored one goal all season for Ch*lsea, Hartson was unfit (need I mention the medical he failed?) and Thompson couldn't get into the Aston Villa team.
