One case of Covid in NZ and the whole country is put into Level 4 (the max)

The vaccine isn't compulsory and the vast majority of people contracting the virus now are unvaccinated.
It's not a cure but it mitigates the effects of the virus
A lady in Ontario, fully vaccinated went to Mexico which has a very low incidence of vaccinations and she now has the 'Delta variant'
But with her being fully vaccinated, her symptoms are mild
Best of luck to everyone dealing with this pandemic

The figures in NZ prove just how easily transmissible the Delta variant is.
The cases have risen here since the end of the restrictions but with a large amount of folk double vaccinated it isn't having a catastrophic effect but we have a winter to get through soon.

I came back to Scotland for a wedding last week. Tested negative on Wednesday to fly on Thursday - wedding on Friday. Flew back on Sunday and heard that a guest has tested positive. No problem I thought - im double vaccinated. Wrong - just had confirmation I have tested positive 😕. Pretty pissed off for a number of reasons. At least one other double vaccinated guest also tested positive. I was rough for a couple of weeks after the second jab and yet it has achieved feck all it would seem. Also rather freaked out. Feeling more or less ok just now but worried about what is coming 😬. For the venue it was the first wedding of the year. If a summer wedding when everyone is vaccinated ends in disaster when will it all ever end....

The thing is Andy, if you hadn't had the vaccines you would probably have been more ill and possibly one of those in intensive care.

Andy, that's not good news and I hope you and the family are OK. There seems to be a big misconception as to how vaccines work - they aren't like an invisible force shield that stops the virus getting to you.

You can still be infected but because you are vaccinated then your body already has antibodies to fight the virus so for most people you will only experience mild symptons before your body's immune system can overcome the attack on your body (but you are contagious and so a carrier that can pass the virus onto others).

The good thing about the vaccines is that it usually stops people from getting seriously ill from the virus, but sadly a very small % of vaccinated people will still die.

Getting a third booster - probably from a different vaccine than your first two - will help your bodies defences even more. I'd imagine older people and most vulnerable need annual boosters like for the flu virus as new variants occur. Take care.

All the best Andy
You’ll be fine,
You can take the bhoy out of Greenock and all that
Your body’s laughing at it
Years of eldorado for you

Cheers STG. I preferred tennents super lagers to be honest 😄

I feel OK - I only went for a test to keep a corona paranoid colleague in work happy. I think reading about it and freaking out is making me more ill than the virus. Fecking internet.

Watching CNN a couple of weeks ago they reported on LA County reintroducing mandatory masks in public places and about 99% of those in ICU were non-vaccinated.

Monday’s media conference contained a self-evident yet sobering admission: many of those caught in the Delta outbreak were not vaccinated as they were not yet eligible.
The Ministry of Health later confirmed just three of the 107 people who had so far tested positive for Covid-19 were double jabbed; 14 had received one dose.
Yep just 3% of those infected had been fully vaccinated.

That's the thing most don't realise. The vaccine won't stop you becoming infected. It will just help your immune system fight it off better. Your body instantly produces antibody's to fight the virus off as soon as it enters the bloodstream. The thing is the virus keeps mutating as does the normal flu in order to combat our defences. Millions of people still die from flu every year. Covid will be with us forever too.
