Who would have thought that a player with a name so suggestive of bowler hat, Bullingdon-ballbaggery would ever be in hoops. But never judge a player by his name. Our CCV is a person of colour with an American father who knows all there is to know about oppression, discrimination and institutionalised racism.
The man towered in his debut and his goal was a thing of Karmic beauty. Imagine the player he will grow into as a Celt.

I thought he had a alright debut but didn't really think he was worthy of MOM. I actually thought it was a slap in the face of Starfelt who I thought was outstanding on saturday and Welsh who was dropped for CCV to play.

I'm not in any way writing him off, but he looked painfully slow and is just all bulk. One of Welsh's big critisms is that he he isn't dominant in the air. CCV is 6ft and Welsh 6'2" and Welsh has improved massively in this department.

Great to have 3 similar centre halfs which could lead to a very settled backline where Hart knows their strengths and weekness (when it's any combination of the 3). With all 3 having no pace, might just work.... pace not really needed in the SPL. And in Europe we won't have the ball as much and away from home much more pinned back. The counter attack with Ange's attacking style could be a worry.

CCV came across as a no nonsense defender who has added a bit of steel to our defence. He also showed he can ping a pass to get us up the park without passing sideways or backwards regularly. Looking forward to seeing more of him but at the same time feel for Welsh who has been steadily improving. Nice to have options at CB.

Karmic beauty? What a wonderful turn of phrase. Poetic in its delivery. Move over Rudyard. Just bein' a wee toe rag fae Govan, I thought it was a tad jammy. Fair play to him for having a go.
Seriously though 26, I hope we really do enjoy watching him develop into the player we hope he can be. Like the thread on what is our first choice eleven, I'll hodd ma hoarses for a while before forming an opinion. Got to agree with those who feel a bit for Welsh though.

Now, about that poetic turn of phrase......

If you've the eye to perceive
And the heart to enjoy
There's no better sight
Than our Japanese Bhoy.

Well you started it. Awright Sandman, Ah'll go away now .

I generally don't form an opinion on players until I have seen them in a few games and you can't assess a CB at celtic after a home game against Ross County.
He looks like a composed, strong player who hopefully will improve our defending of set pieces.
I am really looking forward to getting a proper look at Jota, think you has that X factor we have been missing for years

I was pleased with him on Saturday. No nonsense Bobo type and I actually think him and Welsh would be good pairing. Not writing Starfelt off but notice that teams play big bustling strikers against him, he might have to toughen up.
Anyway at this time trust in Ange to get it right.
CCV, Welsh and Starfelt,
Our 3 Bhoy defensive belt,
Onwards, upwards, Celtic win,
Go on Kyogo knock it in.
Hail Hail

Remember this song about a Japanese Bhoy? If I mind right she is Scottish too.

Still remain unsure about the whole CB situation in regards how and who is going to get the roles still.
Only on 1 game CCV looks like another great addition to the squad.
Even so, we have currently used 5 different players in the CB roles with still Jules and scales to feature yet and big O waiting in the background still.
That could suggest to me, that for certain games especially in Europe, we could go with a 3CB option as CCV seemed to play wide right on Saturday.
Seen Welsh already playing at times in a left role also and scales as a potential back up. Starfelt and Jules with Bitton also gives us the cental role also.
Still believe going with the 2CB option is a better option in the Spfl, but wouldn't mind the 3 for Europe.
Could we be that adaptable?
I think in the modern game as a team you possibly need to be, and think we have a squad that can go for a 3,4 or even a 5 as a defensive option now, and with the vast difference in quality between spfl and European football I don't think it's to bad to have different options available depending on oppersition.

Sky reporting Cal-Mac injured for tmrws game. They are also saying Liel Abada unable to play for religious reasons.
Calmac would be a huge loss for any team, especially ours.
Still time for McCarthy and possibly Soro to come in and step up to the mark.
If Forrest is fit, I think he may have started ahead of Abada anyway but will be also be a big miss.
Starting to think, how intense our training must be, as seem to be getting a lot of injuries from training by the looks of things.

Maybe it's time for Starfelt to be 'rotated'. I believe that Welsh is a better defender, even at this stage.

Not sure why you would drop Starfelt I think he's slowly coming onto a game. And out of all the defence you could possibly blame him for 1 goal out of the 4 (I actually think CCV should have cleared it but was too slow at the near post).

Or even give Scales a run and see what he has got as a CB. Could be time to find out what else we have at CB before we reintroduce Julia are are stuck with a suspect back line for the season. Starfelt is no more than ordinary and looks scared most of the time.... I don't care how much he cost. A poor signing IMO.

Hi CR.... We all form opinions of new players at the beginning of their tenure. A perfect example of this would be Bolingoli. After a short run in the team it was clear (to me at least) that he was unlikely to be the answer we were looking for at LB. He was devoid of any positional responsibilty and in fac devoid of any footballing nous or, dare I say it.... ability. Many people said in his defence... new player, different country, different language give hime time blah blah. He did not demonstrate any footballing ability and it was obvious how things would end. Poor signing. Spent too much again. I also feel the same way about Ajeti despite his latest heroics. Too lazy for this system. Amazing service has been keeping him afloat. Just my opinion. Alternatively I look at young Monte and can see him as a vaible alternative to Taylor. I just believe that Starfel is not going to make it at Celtic but we have spent so much on him that we need to play him in spite of his lack of ability. The sooner we accept the facts the better.

Sorry virgo but I'm really not getting all this anti Starfelt feeling surrounding him.
I believe he is actually growing into the role with every game he's playing atm.
At a guess I would say, he's totally new to the level of football expected with the ball at his feet than he's been use to, but this is nothing new as it's very much the modern way and one a CB is expected to adapt to, yet as uncomfortable as he can look at times with this, I'm still not seeing him giving that desperate pass or hospital pass yet.
Also not seeing him been bullied around by the big target man and well able to challenge and win the high ball.
Looking far more solid from the set plays these days, so could that be down to his organisation skills?
Not seeing him getting turned and getting so easily done in behind him or down the channels, so is his reading of the game more than exceptable?
It's becoming more common now for coaches to go with the CB to play a forward on a one on one basis and yet I don't feel uncomfortable with that regarding Starfelt.
In fact I would go as far as to say, he is a big improvement upon ajer in a defensive mode, and yet many would claim ajer was our best player last season?
Really not understanding this anti Starfelt feelings and am willing to be enlightened upon him, as just not seeing it myself currently

Johnno like you intimated we must be talking about a different player. I see Starfelt as a bit of a bombscare, a very ordinary CB and not up to the standard I had hoped for in spending what we did. He will always be targeted as the weakest link in our defence by better sides IMO. Just a question of opinions.

EDIT: I just saw this Johnno from Chris Sutton as quoted on 67 Hail Hail...." What has been disappointing has been the performances of Starfelt. Celtic fans need to see an extremely quick improvement on what he’s bringing to the table. Especially when you see how quickly Carter-Vickers has settled into life in the same position."

Not apportioning blame CR... I just don't think he is very good and the thought of having to play him for the rest of the season gives me the fear. He WILL cost us more points as we go forward.
