Terrific ability without doubt boab. Idolised him when he was here. Gone in the proverbial blink of an eye though. Nah, Tam Burns, Maestro , Peter the Pointer, Big Roy the Bear, Packy, and of course, Danny Mac the ONLY world class RB Scotland has ever seen. All contemporaries of his, ALL ahead of him in the Celtic legend debate.
Once watched an interview with him clearly stating The Gunners were his team, which is absolutey fine. But he appeared to be carrying something of a grievance against his "boyhood heroes". Think most would also say he actually underachieved in his career.

The talk at the time was that the board had decided that either he or the Maestro were being sold (nothing changes).Think we got the best of the deal imo.Doesnt excuse his ill informed ramblings however
 
When CN was making his break through Archie McPherson was always saying how brilliant CN was on Sportscene. I remember being at Celtic games at Dens and Tannadice (in the home crowd).
I remember everyone singin "Archie sleeps wi Charlie, Archie sleeps wi Charlie, ah na na na, ah na na na". Who was mummy or daddy was never established in the song.

I'm glad I took your advice and stuck with this wonderful piece of writing WC. Thanks very much for posting. David, as always, produced another very readable account of what had become something of a period drifting into the foggy dew of time. Thank goodness, too, for folk like David Potter and his like. He certainly does know the history.
Got to say again though, and it's not personal, I will never think of Charlie as a Celtic legend. I do however wish the bloke nothing but good fortune. Thanks again WC.

Cheers Frank, there's one more part to go and that's up in the morning. The thing about getting these kind of features published is that they are there ongoing and supporters can access then or search for them when it suits them. Too many stories from the past have been lost or even re-written to suit agendas that may not necessarily be accurate.

It wouldn't expect Charlie to be on anything like Mcgarvey, Mcgarvey was bought from Liverpool and Charlie came through the ranks at Celtic, thats not to say his offer of a raise was derisory, but as you say the Gooners were paying 10 times what we would have paid. Although Frankie never really played for Liverpool, I doubt he would have came home for £90 a week. At the time of his first departure most thought the Gooners were the wrong choice for him, they weren't renowned for their attacking prowess, but as Charlie went on to prove, bucks are bucks and the more the merrier. 😢


He's still a prick imho.
