James Forrest - three more years.

James forrest has signed on for another three years which for me is excellent news. I don't understand why he gets so much grief when he has achieved so much and stayed so long. Compare with the adulation for kieran Tierney who fecked off at the first opportunity 🤷‍♂️ . Anyway congratulations Jamesy - you deserve it.

in tierney defence he was offered monster wage and club record transfer.

had arsenal offered 25 million and 75+K i think anybody would need to move on since wage cant be matched and club gets good compensation.

that said forrest for me is a winner with goals and talent if he can stay fit.

one of my favourites.

I'm hoping Ange can work his magic on Jamesie and gets him firing on all cylinders again. Ange obviously believes he can.

Forrest was written off before by many people but it was only 3 years ago when he was fantastic and won the PFA Player of the Year, PFA Scotland Players’ Player of the Year, and the SFWA Footballer of the Year.

I think everyone agrees he has struggled since he returned from his last injury. Hopefully a full preseason under Ange will mean he gets off to a flyer next season. I think his fantastic record for us means he is due a bit of loyalty/reward from the club but I'm surprised he has been offered a 3 year extension.

I'm surprised at a 3 year extension too. He hasn't started too many games this year but maybe that's down to injuries. Career-wise he has probably peaked and is a great sub to have on the bench but I don't see him in the first X1 on a weekly basis unless he gets super-fit. Never underestimate what our gaffer can do for players though.

Well done James Forrest. He has given Celtic his whole life and given us some amazing moments. Even if he's a bit part player he deserves it.....

On another note, Remember how, on another thread, I jokingly said that one of the things that are guaranteed in life is our board royally fucking up a good thing......I look forward to the "Yes, we reached a few stumbling blocks in trying to sign Jota, but fear not, we have a ready made replacement who has just signed a 3 year extension........." statement.

That's too near the truth Lubo.

If Forrest is good enough for Ange, then that is good enough for me.

Ange said: “James is my kind of player and has that attacking intent that can open up defences to make goals, not only for himself, but for others as well.

“He’s been a great servant to the football club thanks to his brilliant quality and attributes, and those have made him a proven contributor to the club’s success – you only have to look at his medal collection to see that.

“I know we will get more of this from him next season and beyond, and I’m delighted that this deal has been finalised.”

He is now the fourth most decorated player in Celtic history, as he overtook Jinky's 19 trophies. His 13 seasons of service have produced 10 league titles, five League Cups and five Scottish Cups, with only Scott Brown (22), Billy McNeill (23) and Bobby Lennox (25) lifting more trophies.

He has. And bear in mind that ankle injuries -- and knee injuries, like the one Christopher Jullien picked up -- are usually enormously difficult, if not impossible, to overcome. That said, I think Ange and the coaching staff see something in Forrest and that's all I need. I'm glad he's sticking around and my guess is that we'll be seeing him come off the bench a lot next year.

The only down side to this, and to echo what Lubo said -- and it has nothing to do with Forrest -- is that somewhere along the line the talks with Benfica have broken down and we're not getting Jota. There's nothing I'd rather be more wrong about than this, but to be honest that was my first thought when we signed Forrest again.

But again, I'm probably wrong. I hope.

Regarding Jota, I believe the terms for permanently buying him from Benfica were agreed and signed in the loan agreement last August. So it is just personal terms to be agreed with Jota that need to be sorted. Jota himself has been cagey about his future when asked but that makes perfect sense as his agent will have hammered this into him to maximise what they can get offered from Celtic.

Hopefully the package we can give him will suit him - this includes financial, well-being/happiness, opportunities for exposure to the widest possible audience for career development and of course success. Now Celtic can be outbid by many other clubs when it comes to financial reward but I think we will be able to offer more than other clubs for the other factors.

At this time I hope he agrees to join us but I also think he will be bought up from us within a couple of seasons, which is OK with me. That needs to be our business model until we can somehow secure a more lucrative guaranteed income package which probably means moving away from the SPFL - and that may never be allowed to happen until the authorities are forced into a massive rethink, but they are too busy trying to pacify the richest clubs to care about clubs from smaller countries.

3 titles behind the orcs if u believe what they say about 55.
As we draw nearer to that, literally THE ONLY THING they have left to beat us with, they will go insane…or more insane, if thats possible.
Once we draw level and go past, they become an insignificance, just another team fae Scotland.
No simply the best, no world record, tho they dont hold that the noo either.
It will destroy them.
I wanna be around for when that happens, so cmon bhoys, 5 in a row please…

They've won one pal. And their old teams record is questionable.

Everyone knows that (including them) but it doesn't stop them going on about it all the time. That's why it will be brilliant when we overtake this imaginary figure to see their meltdown. And then watch what their next nonsense will be to try to steal more trophies from somewhere else to try to stay ahead of us.

Re Jota, I must admit when he never started at Tannadice I expected a torrent of posts and the 1+ 1 = 3 mob on before the game, however Jamsie seems to have set it off, imho Jamsie was always getting a decent offer, if McCarthy can get a 4 yr deal shirly tF we can offer our own a decent contract.

The baw I think is in Jotas court, deal with Benfica is agreed and its between him and the club, if he wants to stay Ange will sanction it if he wants to go Ditto.

P. S hope he stays.

They will never hold the world record again mate even if half whits believe in 55 the old club died with 54 a good effort while it lasted but it’s over, done!
Going forward we should only talk about equalling 54 titles
