Transfer Rumours

I'm so glad we didn't flog or loan Welsh out. The fact that he started yesterday's game proves that Ange wants him around and now he can only get better.
I don't believe that Ange has any intention of loaning out Welsh as he knows he will be needed this season. Now if we received a silly offer to buy him then we might consider that, as we will for every player.

I think Welsh has the potential to become a very decent CB and I hope he does that wearing the Hoops. It will take a lot of hard work of his part but hopefully he will improve. Plus he has an eye for goal which is a handy asset for any defender.

Good on you Welsh, the player who can't win a header :ROFLMAO:
Don't know where that assessment upon Welsh has come from CR as proved himself on many occasions just how powerful in the air young Welsh can be especially on our attacking set plays.
However for a young man still learning his trade a big difference between knowing where the ball is going to be placed and having to adjust to defending where you think the ball is going to end up with so many other obstacles in play to deal with.
This will improve with experience and greater confidence with reading the flight and pace of the ball better, but certainly has everything within his all round game of the modern day CB to become a great player of the future and certainly well decent at present imo.
A very big season awaits Welsh and his potential career going forward and hoping it still remains with ourselves well beyond this coming season still, yet no idea how it will unfold still, but at present we look like having great option's available for the coming season at CB and that's a great position and happy enough one to be in for the season ahead

Think Ange see's the long term prospect in nurturing him along ,Welsh is still raw yet and learning his trade under a manager who is willing to bring youths in and give them a chance
thought welsh had a good game ,can only hope he takes the advantage like Ralston did and give it his all

I've backed young Welsh now for a while, I know he can make mistakes just like any player. But the criticism of him (can't head the ball etc) last season when he thrown in the deep end at the start of the season, with a thread bear squad, players that wanted away and playing in high pressure champions league games was really over the top.

I'm just so pleased for him, I for one give young scottish players coming through the ranks more time than others, (it seems to me I'm the oposite to many fans. For example, Jenz plays 20mins against a tired and battered Norwich and he's suddenly a world beater!!- Welsh completely snuffs out Pukki and nothing is meantioned).

Admire your loyalty towards Scottish players and quite rightly have hit upon a planning process that tends to go unnoticed due to the blindness of the current strength within the current squad.
As a club we are aiming hopefully to be a team capable of challenging within CL football.
Yet this rule of having 4 academy trained players along with 4 association trained players potentially can create huge problems in the future with such a lack of development opportunities within Scottish football still.
Possibly why we offered Forrest an extended contract to help buy time for a huge problem that still exists within Scottish football and yet nothing been done as such to solve the problem.
Even MJ is on a tender hook now but only a loan deal hopefully should be sorted for him as we still remain close to not getting the 8 required and with a standard of being able to play CL football if required.
Personally don't think Welsh is quite there yet this season as an automatic choice at CB, yet very worthy of his place within a squad of 25 and able to cover 1 of the 8 needed also, with the potential of doing so for many a long year yet.
However the hardest thing for a young Scottish player can be the growing frustration with limited opportunities with the demands of the club so great still, so the younger players can tend to look elsewhere for better career opportunities.
As supporters we also have to start acknowledging this situation the club faces, in regards it is not in our own interests to be getting upon the younger players back and hounding them out of the club as such, because we feel that there not good enough for us as such.
Even on Sunday 19 players within the squad with 2 injured, still with McCarthy and MJ not included and yet both could well be needed for the 25 for CL and to meet the requirements with the 8 needed also.
Huge task within the club going forward and hence why we were looking at these younger players within Scotland, but trouble is when they are getting game time with lower teams within the SPFL, then the chance of playing lowland league football is hardly an attractive proposition to them.
The role of Steve mac now becomes vital within the club now imo, even with the huge problem that still exists, and tends to go unnoticed still imo.

Rumours that McCarthy is going to be moving on in the next few days. It is a shame it never worked out for a fellow fan - maybe just a few years too late. But I think we'd all agree that it is best for all parties for his to try his luck elsewhere. Thanks and good luck.

I saw some rumours too BB. I can't say I'm overly concerned and in fact him leaving would free up the money for a better buy.

I never thought he looked fully fit at any time since he came to the club but maybe at his age you don't get it back.

He just hasn't got going. I feel sad when green blooded Tims like him and Duffy just struggle in the Hoops. As you said his substantial wages will be put to better use on another player.

Would make total sense if McCarthy still wanted to continue with a playing career.
Was never going to be suitable for the style of football Ange wants to play either.
A good team mate behind the scenes by all accounts which counts for something, if not really able to produce upon the pitch for us sadly.
Maybe it could release up the position vacated to a potential young Scottish player even if one doesn't spring to mind at present

Totally agree with you John, Welsh has the makings of becoming a first class defender.

Tom Rogic, the 29-year-old Australia midfielder freed by Celtic this summer, is poised to reunite with former Parkhead manager Neil Lennon at Omonia Nicosia and has already arrived to negotiate a contract with the Cypriot top-flight club
That is a bit of a waste. I'm not too sure Lenny always got the best out of Big Tam. He will enjoy the hotter temperatures but he could be playing at a higher standard for another couple of years. Good luck anyway and thanks for some incredible memories.
