Violence in Valencia

We’ve all heard the news and seen the clips on Facebook and Twitter by now. Not good. Obviously.

So two things here:
(1) there was a story doing the rounds about a ‘Rangers’ bar being firebombed that was blown way out of proportion. Be that as it may, it’s entirely possible that the police in Valencia are using that as an excuse to come down hard on our fans. There’s no evidence I’ve seen anywhere that actually supports the claim that one of our supporters was responsible; just innuendo. That said, given the size of our support over there right now, we would be foolish to think that there aren’t a couple hoops-wearing nutters among our support in Valencia. If, and it’s a big ‘if’, any of our supporters had anything to do with this they ought to be held accountable by both the police as well as our club. People who do this don’t represent our club, and the individual responsible must not be allowed to be associated with our club - and if that means a lifetime ban then so be it.

(2) the images concerning the riot police in Valencia are shocking to all. Sadly, we in America see these images all too often in the age of social media and 24/7 news cycles. However, one of the tools that’s being rolled out to police departments across the country is body cameras. This is as much to protect the police as much as it is to protect the population (ie there’s a verifiable record of both unjustified police brutality as well as justified police actions including shootings). We can’t do anything regarding the police in Valencia or any other city, but we CAN utilize similar technology in wearable video cameras and cell phone cameras. The key to making this effective is (1) have the camera recording at all times when in public so that the full story, not just selected bits, can be examined by all, and (2) the recording should be set up to record directly to the cloud rather than to the local storage on the device. That way if someone tries to destroy the camera as evidence, the video survives - or at least the part until the camera is destroyed.

[EDIT]
A great solution for this is a wearable GoPro camera as demonstrated in the video below. This guy isn’t wearing it, but obviously that’s a trivial detail with GoPro as they’re all wearable.

Stay safe everyone!

Ben is 100 percent right here. Record everything, and have it go somewhere rather than having it stay on the phone, which can be destroyed. The American Civil Liberties Union has this service available, which I use from time to time, but it can be set up pretty easily to be stored anywhere on the cloud.

Also, stay safe. In Spain you're dealing with fascist Francoist assholes, especially if they're cops.

1) The pub in question was The Rangers Bar in Benidorm. It wasn't firebombed - someone set light to the hanging flegs outside - the Butcher's apron and the Red Hand. The place went up due to that.
If only Mordor was such a tinderbox...
Anyway, the pub's gutted but cosmetically 100% improved and it gives them a chance to blame Fenains, when it was probably Johnny Vegas.

2) The Spanish riot cops are notorious. It may not help that we are perceived as being cosied-up with Barcelona; some Franco-era fascists running the show over there; think a polis force under the direct command of the Orange Order with a free hit at anytihng they please. (well, we're close but not yet at that stage).
Green and white decked Catalunyan sympathisers? Bam,bam, bam!

Ben. From all the footage doing the rounds im very surprised that you even hint at the possibility of our fans doing wrong.

We have won awards for our conduct as the best fans in the world and nothing should detract from that.

If any of our bhoys wanted to do a boozer there’s 2 on duke street that offer a more appealing sense of satisfaction.

So no i do not think so will not support for one second any notion of wrongdoing by the hoops fans.

In fact i will go as far as to say the opposite.

Hoops fans won the best fans award in spite of being attacked and maliciously thrown in jail numerous times whilst following our club.

Then takes years to clear their name as posed by ajax.

Our fans are too respectful in the face of adversity.

With respect pal i cannot entertain even the hint of what you have said.

Thanks for the details Sandman.

I had assumed, wrongly, that the pub was in Valencia. I had to look up where Benidorm is located as I’ve never heard of it. 140km south of Valencia??? If Celtic fans wanted to cause trouble, that’s an awfully long way to go out of one’s way to accomplish a little arson and vandalism... are there no Rangers pubs in Valencia to torch if one is into that sort of thing??? still, there’s no tangible evidence one way or the other who was responsible and as far as I know there haven’t been any arrests for it yet. So best to keep an open mind until more facts emerge.

Exactly, Ben. Nowhere near where the fans will be but they don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Maria, there’s always one or two nutters in a group that size, and our support is no exception. Our support on the whole is EXCELLENT when traveling and I’m well aware of that reputation, and not just among our own support. But that doesn’t exclude the possibility that one or two haven’t gone rogue and taken their dislike of Rangers too far. The fact is, at this point we don’t know who did it, and it’s being portrayed both home (MSM) and abroad (Valencia news) that someone associated with our club was responsible. Until more facts are known it’s best to just keep an open mind and otherwise be on our best behavior (normal course of business for most of our support). But if it turns out that one of our supporters did have anything to do with it, it will need to be dealt with swiftly and severely. That’s all I’m saying...

Ben why highlight a possibility. Withoit proof you cant be convicted in a court of law.

However mud sticks.

Until such time that evidence becomes available then nothing untoward has been committed by our own.

I certainly wont be flinging mud whilst smsm are creamin themselves.

Innocent until proven guilty. End off.

This is no slight aimed at you ben. I enjoy reading your posts pal but yer way off the mark here imho

Even if there were 10 hun pubs in the vicinity.

Innocent until proven guilty. End off.

Which is why it rips ma knittin when we inadvertently do their bidding for them. No offence Ben. But you need to wise up to the shit we have propaganda’d against us 24/7.

I will take my own over anybody all day long.

Wish no more threads casting slight against our support from supporters unless proof is shown then we’ll all fkn hammer them.

Not buying it ,,,,a clumsy hun insurance job but more like pathetic smear at us which has worked ,full coverage and advertising for there shite pub

Have look at the mural on the wall depicting the last supper and what it represents and who they depict on it ,any tim in there right mind would have razed it to ground and not burnt a few shite flags

Exactly Kelly ????

So the current deal is there’s no proof whatsoever that anyone connected to Celtic set fire to a couple of manky flags.....right?

There’s the distinct possibility that this could have been an insurance job.....right?

This incident coincidentally happened when Celtic were in Valencia 140 miles away....right?

This incident was first reported on Folgen Folgen that bastion of truth and integrity....right?

The Bar in question was a rat hole and in dire need of renovation....right?

To blame what could quite possibly be an insurance stitch up on the travelling Support would be a sleekit thing to do.....and who does that remind us of......right?

A similar type insurance scam was perpetrated by those unknown on a luxury coach and initially blamed on those of a Celtic persuasion which was later shown to be fake news.......right?

Who would be well aware of CCTV surveillance cameras in the vicinity and how to avoid them?.....hmmmm?

Squirrels live in trees.....or do they?.......right?

So why the friar tuck is the finger of potential blame and possible guilt being pointed at Our Support WITHOUT any collaborative proof?.....WHY?

This saga reeks of fake news......opportunistic hunnery......a cute creature with a bushy tail......the MSM.....and perhaps something closer to home......hmmm?
