If a manager has a shelf life, surely a CEO does too?

Not sure this is where we should be looking to fix our current problem. So, we change our CEO who is, barring really stupid mistakes occasionally due to arrogance and an inflated sense of his own importance. Does that change our current situation? By and large Lawwell does a good job of administering a company.

I also hope Brendan stays for 10IAR but I doubt he will. He obviously isn't being backed by the board. The question of whether lawwell will be for the off soon will be down to the men in the board room. Real Celtic men with the club at heart will be pushing lawwell to spend money to strengthen the squad. If he doesn't want to spend, the board may try to push for changes.....on the other hand. If the guys sitting on the board are just obsessed with what's in our bank account and not what's going on in the park then Lawwell will be here for a long time. He is a businessman who can make money and he is making a lot of people at Celtic rich. If we don't spend in January then we know Brendan will definitely be off at the end of the season. The board won't give cash to a guy that's already handed in his notice.

He is absolutely good at looking after a company but Celtic, to me, is not a company. It's a football team that I love and support. Lawwell would be good to remember that as he spouts about profits. We need a CEO who understands that it's not just about what's in the bank. Celtic have made enough that we should be able to spend money on the squad. Lawwell hasn't done enough, IMO, to move Celtic, the football team, forward.

Before we all lose the plot, we should examine things to determine if a pattern is developing. I truly believe that Lawwell let Brendan down during the summer. Posturing on the part of Lawwell has made the job of the manager much more difficult (at least in the short term). However, in terms of the relationship between these two particular men, this is an event not a pattern. While I fully accept that Lawwel has played a similar hand in the past with ex-managers, I doubt that he will pull such a stunt again with Brendan during the Winter Transfer Window. The backlash that the Celtic Board would suffer should Brendan Rodgers walk out the door would be so strong that it may take a decade or more to recover.
Lawwell might surprise me and try to play the big man, but he would be signing his own P45..... and other clubs would be clued in to the fact so his intransigence and unwillingness to plainly see the obvious would severely damage his reputation. C-level executives make the big decisions, but they do so with the benefit of information provided by others in the organization. If a C-level executive plays a bad hand because of sheer bloody-mindedness they should not be around long enough to try it twice! I believe Lawwell is smart enough to know what is good for him and his long-term relationship with the club.

Dear blog,

Can I utter the dreaded line that the team are not playing for the gaffer? . it certainly looks that way, an entire support can see what's wrong and the team can't? Please! . no there is a malaise over the team now. The news that 3.5 million has been written off on "undisclosed " tells me that Brendan is leaving and most likely before the January window so bank on November I suggest.

I also reckon the players know this and have lost heart rogic for one broony is going through the motions, Eduard is doing a dembele in attitude boyata not far behind him frankly there are only a few who are having a red hot go, sad but true. .
Tell me , who is the happiest player at the club atm? Has to be griffo ,why??? Because he knows that the gaffer who really doesn't rate him is leaving and griffo has a three year contract , did dermot decide to back his money man?

I would agree with this, if it was any other business, but football is different. Fans are loyal to their club. It's the reason the Scottish football authorities have got away with being so bloody useless for so long. If fans boycott cup games and the like then the "blazers" could possibly be forced into action....but we don't, because we want to follow Celtic through and through. Lawwell knows this. The board and he have let the fans down on several occasions. We have let him know about it by voicing our anger online and holding up banners at Celtic park. But we keep supporting and spending our money on the club. I hope you a right about cash being spent in January but with Lawwell as CEO I won't hold my breath
HH?

I respect your view of things. However, my point was really that if Lawwell makes a habit of pissing off Brendan Rodgers and Brendan then walks out then the backlash would be so huge that the Board would find it difficult to continue business as usual. Lawwell is not an idiot, he must know that he would be driving a deep wedge between the Club and the support if he lets Brendan down going forward. Normally, I do not like washing dirty laundry in public....but Brendan was smart to make his anger obvious as it has demonstrated to Lawwell that we all know who to point the finger at. Lawwell feeds on his reputation, and reputational damage is something he will try to remedy.

His dithering cost us £60m no CL and McGinn, who will move on for £20m at least. Walk me through any other CEO who would survive that? Times well up

I cannot argue with you on the sums.....they all add up to a frightening sum. My point is that for the moment it is not a pattern. We would need to see it repeated to be a pattern. For the moment it is an event (one none of us wish to see repeated).

PL role- finances, transfer/contract negotiations, hitting targets set by DD. In the past he had a bigger hand in transfer targets

DD- counting the profits and stepping in to authorise a bigger splash of cash for a player or manager appointment.

BR- coaching and with congerton identifying players.

Coaching wise over his tenure BR has done well. Too many of his transfer market dealings haven't managed to break the first 11. DD has released some funds but not enough. We haven't moved players on the fringes to trim the squad. Sold good players with nothing lined up and cash at the ready to get the players with no fannying about with low ball bids. Don't know who's door that has to be laid at.

There are plenty of things PL is very good at. A man of his power and success will have an ego to match. So unless his boss DD tells him to PL will dance to his own tune and continue to hit the targets DD has set for him.
Remember PL will have major leverage in all of this due to his many successes. Managers are disposable. It's fans that have to pressure the men above. It's no secret he has been steadily feathering the nest for a jump to UEFA in recent years. Leaving celtic wouldn't be as big a hit for him as some might believe.

I would not say that Brendan Rodgers is bigger than Celtic, but I do believe that if he left because the Board failed to support his ambitions (given we could afford those ambitions) then it would take a long time and perhaps a change of board members before the Club recovered in the eyes of the supporters.

A CEO is answerable to the shareholders. A manager is answerable to the high command. If the CEO has a specific goal for personal or selective agenda that is not compatible with the long term view of the Shareholders then he should be sacked.

With Celtic specifically, the general non shareholder fans also have an input to the running of the club since without the fans the shareholders ultimately have no income low term income.

The Ceo and board are there to keep the manager realistic in his ambitions with added value financially being their role.

The manager has responsibility for the club to work within his agreed budgets and acquire a team worthy of the club.

If the CEO or board are not happy with the financial added value coming from the manager, they should announce their reasons for not backing him.

If the manager is not happy with the lack of financial aid to support his ambition then he should walk or at least publicly state to his fans the reason why he feels unsupported financially.

The silence or perhaps the superficial silence has not solved the problems that are visible.

If the club have long term view that differs from the manager then its only fair that the fans who support the club financially are made aware of the constraints that their hard earned money and loyal support deserves.

An open and more transparent listing of remunerations for individuals in power would in my opinion help ordinary fans see that their hard earned money is going to worthy causes.

Being prudent financially is good thing if it benefits the value added on off the field. But being miserly to boost the remuneration of specific persons would be outrageous, especially if it undermined the entire sporting viability of the club.

I would say Lawell clearly has had success off the field in winning lucrative commercial contracts clearly to the benefit of the club
How much of this was down to his commercial nous and negotiating guile ? and how much was he hitting the ball into an empty net ?given what Lennon Strachan and Rogers had achieved on the field
Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt on that
However in my humble opinion he has very badly let the fan base down in a big way on several occasions
1 not supporting strachan ..eg Fletcher ..
2 same with Lennon
3 now same with Rogers ... ( although I am not convinced that Petrie wasn’t the villain of the piece on the MCGinn debacle as he has shafted us constantly since 2011)
4 complete failure to hold the SFA and SPL to account to get the mega trophies ripped out of that Ibrox trophy cabinet . we should be going for 21inaro and everyone should know it as a matter of fact
5 complete failure to back his own fans and shareholders on the Uefa licensing issue allowing absolute fraud to go unpunished
6 Given 4 and 5 instead of being murdered the SFA TRFC are emboldened and doing it all again pissing all over and bullying Scottish football and especially us
Fergus would have had the lot of them jailed by now including Murray , titles long gone . No way would they have got a UEFA license to play in Europa this year and be in the position they are now.. shocking!
All the money In the the bank ,big commercial Contracts and hotels and fancy lighting mean totally f@ck all if you allow your many enemies to behave in a corrupt manner and do nothing about it .. and that is exactly how it looks from where I sit
When your fans and manager have to deal with all the consequences of that corrupt behaviour then when they need help you don’t even back them up then SORRY .. it’s time to go.. and Now
PS I think PMG earlier today suggested what we are witnessing on the park is Of Lawells doing. I don’t agree with him on much and treat all the ‘insights’ with pinches of salt but I am with him on this one
PPS that all said I will repeat what I posted yesterday. BRs career at the top end will also be finished if he allows a bunch of bin ends and yellow labels with a rookie manager to get the better of him given his much better players and finances
