As a club, our main problem isn’t Rodgers leaving, it’s Lawell staying

It really doesn’t matter who comes in with Bonus Ball in charge. The other boot to the balls is if Rogers can’t get any money, no one will.

BB liked to wax lyrical about us feasting at the top table, but thought that would happen without having to buy a ticket.

He is the reason we continually stall when ahead then fall back. He continually fails to realize that structured and constant upgrading is required. Especially with our Defence.

I know a lot of people think the sun shines out of his arse, none more so than him. But, it’s what we could have achieved if his ultra cautious outlook wasn’t the norm.

Anybody coming in with him still the only one who knows where the tin is hidden means we stagnate. A big name like Rogers, back to back trebles and still it remained hidden.

It is clear ambition is still a bad word in our boardroom. And until the shite bags in there are gone we will get better, sell our best players, fall back and Europe will be a pipe dream.

My sadness today is not solely that Rogers has left, but that Lawell remains. That’s a bigger problem, for me at least. Lawell has won his battle with Rogers. That caution over ambition is the winner is an awful indictment of where we are as a club. Fucking Leicester. A shitty little club.
Tells you all you need to know about the relationship with Lawell. A big team, aye, fine. But this?

Go fuck yourself Peter.

Go fuck yourself Rodgers for telling the fans lies you took the appluadits at the weekend and then do the dirty if true who gives a fuck what you achieved.

If the Board are Celtic supporters why would they allow such tensions to build up between the CEO and the manager ?
I am pretty sure that after his first two seasons , having completed a Double Treble , the Celtic support would have given the Board the green light to open the war chest to fund a good European run plus another Treble .
That clearly didn't happen - instead we got rumours of strife between PL and BR . Why ?
Did the CEO not have confidence in BR's player recruitment or did PL's penny- pinching dishearten BR to the extent that we had a miserable Champion's League campaign ?

We are not going to get answers to these questions in the short term - but we can all speculate .
If the problem is , as TV suggests , Peter Lawwell ( and I have already voiced concern at the remuneration being paid to PL ) then the CEO V manager tensions will likely continue to the detriment of the team/club .
If true , are the Board happy to see the CEO as the most valuable asset at the club , regardless of the effect it may be having on the morale of the coaching staff , the team and the support ?

Even if Lawwell leaves the next CEO will b exactly the same that’s the environmen Celtic r in they’re never gony match what the EPL teams r spending but we still spend plenty for a team playin in this Mickey Mouse league

Kind of comical that he was shocked at the morals of a kid at Motherwell not earning in a year what he earns in a week, looking to run away and take advantage of a easy score.

Leicester does not stack up as pure ambition does it!
Aberdeen won the league once in a blue moon, I had to check google on how to spell the place.

Think you're pretty much spot on with that comment Verdict.

As I said on another thread Lenny walked for the same reasons BR is walking. I know people are angry right now and are accusing BR of betrayal but when successive managers walk for the same reasons then maybe the manager ISN'T the issue.

I get people's anger but I think some of the comments on here directed at BR are piss poor, don't think BR would have took this decision lightly and you have to ask why a self confessed Celtic fan on the verge of legendary status at the club would walk now with a treble treble on the horizon? Money? I don't think so as he could've easily earned the same if not more and done it at a bigger club than Leicester if he had waited until the summer.

I suspect there has been a complete breakdown in the relationship between BR and Lawell and Lawell was only to happy to see him go now especially as BR will take most of the heat (as some of the comments on here have shown) for walking at this stage of the season while Teflon Pete troops back up to his office virtually unscathed as usual!

He is our major and sadly ongoing problem. He took more out of the club this year than he sanctioned for players. That sums the cunt up for me all day long.

Peter isn’t the only part of the equation here. He may be on the board, but he’s not the chairman and he doesn’t approve the budget. He also doesn’t approve the big money transfers. That responsibility falls to the board.

This is the same board that has failed on Res 11. The same board that has failed to assemble any sort of coalition to deal with the corruption and incompetence at the SFA. And the same board that approved annual 7-figure bonuses for PL for achieving what should be the base minimum expectations in a league where he can spend 3x more than the nearest competitor and outspend all other clubs on a combined basis.

The club may yet win the Treble this year. But complacency at the club, particularly at the very top, has gone on long enough!

This. 1,000 times this.

The board of directors is well entrenched at Celtic with most having served for well over a decade, just like PL. Even if PL is somehow pushed out (and I doubt that will occur unless there is a major revolt), the environment in the board is one of groupthink that is incapable of bringing in fresh voices to fundamentally change the approach.

PL needs to go, but he’s not the only one. Without replacing a large part of the board, we’re going to end up with PL-lite. Another yes-man who controls the buscuit tin but without all of PL’s baggage.

Who's asking them to match what EPL teams spend Kakhanded? That's a straw man argument put up every time people ask questions about the ambition of this board!

Nobody in their right mind expects us to be competing with EPL transfer fees and wages but when you look at our current finances and then look at the last 2 transfer windows, projects, loan deals, an ex-Kilmarnock player who was out of contract and a SINGLE permanent signing at £2m? Is that the level of their ambition? Is that acceptable?

Agreed. All this shit people spout about competing with English clubs gets me raging. We know we can’t conpete with that but having £40m in the bank, down £60m because of the don’t spend anything Lawell, is disastrous leadership.

We can do better, the board don’t appear to give a fuck, will 50k+ continue to buy a SB when it’s clear the board gave zero ambition? I Fucking hope not or we will never have a change in approach.

Very well said, I agree with every word you have said, we all need to get together and do something about this, get the banners out LAWWELL MUST GO. He robbed Gordon Strachan of the title in his last season, with the Steven Fletcher affair, we must get him out Now.

No ONE person is to blame for this situation :

The Board are culpable - they must see the fiasco that was the summer transfer window ( and previous ones , too ) ;

Peter Lawwell is culpable ( not just this season ! ) for appearing to value money in the bank as more worthwhile than good players on the park ;

BR is culpable - no matter WHAT the strains behind the scenes , he must realise the enormity of downing tools at this crucial stage of the season .

We , the supporters are the ones suffering most - OUR ambitions appear to be secondary to those who make the decisions at CP .
That may be a mistake they come to regret !

I don’t think it’s acceptable but the targets Rodgers was after either didn’t want to come or were demanding a weekly wage that Celtic just can’t afford.
He brought in lee Cogerton as his head of recruitment and the world of football is a huge place surely they should have had a huge list of players instead they appeared to only have a couple and when they didn’t materialise we were left scratching around in the loan market.
I’m no fan of Lawwell I think his ego gets in the way but I can understand his argument as if he’s been unsure about Rodgers commitment to Celtic it’s only obvious he would be reluctant to let him sign players and give them 3/4 year contracts.
I’m not sayin the board come out of this well but neither does Rodgers he’s got a lot of Celtic players to sign new contracts what assurances did he give them they’ll feel very confused.

Andy, in fairness, we bought two players in the Jan window: Bayo and Schved.

If one was to believe conspiracy theories, PL and the board may have been clued in on BR leaving and conducted transfer business accordingly - loan players to get us through this campaign and low budget project signings for the future. Put the money in the bank and give it to the next manager to spend this summer.

Rather than causing him to leave, it may have been because he was leaving... we need to be open to that possibility.

Also, even if that’s true, this wouldn’t absolve the board any culpability. Something clearly changed with BR in the last 12 months. He went from 6+4=10 to leaving for Leicester (!!!) rather than staying here for 10 and/or waiting until one of the top jobs in Europe were offered (Arsenal, ManU, Chelsea, etc). What made BR want to leave in the middle of a triple-treble season??? I suspect James Forrest, Joe McHugh, and Phil will have the juicy details for us in the coming days and weeks.

I am sure the reason he left will come out in time. If anybody thinks it was money or he always loved the Foxes, they are deluding themselves.

This is down to a divergence of direction. We have shown we have no appetite for having a go. This to me is the reason, if you are in a position where you feel your credibility is being ruined because you aren’t allowed to improve you have a choice to make.

Rogers made that choice, but don’t tell me if he had been backed in the summer to qualify and do well in Europe he would have left to go to Leicester.

That’s just nonsense. He left because it was clear his ambitions for the club were never going to be even attempted to fulfil.

He wasn’t looking for mega bucks as he knew we didn’t have it. What he rightly expected was a couple of quality defenders. He got nothing in the last two windows, while Lawell got £2.3m, more that our entire budget spend.

That would fuck me off too. In fact it does. And should every Celtic fan across the world.

Kakhanded, the issue is more the former than the latter. Celtic have money in the bank and are very profitable even without Champions League money or transfer profit. There’s money to increase wages, albeit not everyone can be on £50k/week.

But if the club wanted to have a handful of players, say no more than 4 or 5, on high wages, they could probably go as high as £75k/week without running recurring losses. And if that helped the club achieve Champions League even once every 5-10 years more than they would otherwise, then it pays for itself over time as well. And again, that also assumes these players aren’t sold on for big profits.

The money is there for the wages. The bigger issue IMO is that most players who want that kind of money are on contracts that would require £15-20m+ transfer fees, and that’s out of our range. Guys like Benkovic, Toljan, Weah, and Burke. We can afford their wages; the transfer fees not so much!
