Peter Lawwell

Sorry you sound like James Forrest.
Fundamentally this man has overseen the progression of our club on and off the field.
3 trebles a turnover of over £100m , £30m plus in the bank.
I know it's an easy shout to castigate him and the board but trust me having been through the White et al era these people are doing a job.
Criticism per lames Forrest is dead easy doing it at the sharp end year in year out requires a level of commitment that not many have.
When he goes you might feel different.

I think the reality lies somewhere in the middle, L.

And still waiting to see what the alternative would be, Lmc.

I mind the days when I wanted to run the bunnet oot the place, but hindsight is a wonderful thing

I have to agree to a large extent. I think PL has for the most part done a very good job on the business side of running the club. I also he is a fan and wants the best for Celtic. However, like many on here we guess/think (let's be honest, none of us really know for definite) that PL gets too involved in the footballing side of operations. We may be right or wrong about that, but personally I'd prefer to see an experienced director of football running this part of the business rather than Lawwell. In the meantime I'd prefer him to loosen the purse strings just slightly (we never want to go down the suicidal financial path that Rangers/The Rangers plummet down) and get in a couple of higher quality players to stand a better chance of competing better in Europe - hopefully qualify for UCL group stages and then avoid 7-0 thrashing, or possibly a wee run on the Europa. PL isn't the devil and he isn't the messiah either - he is mostly good but also incredibly frustrating at times.

I guess I’m saying the same as you. I remember the EBT years and if his prudence proves him right then he’ll be a hero and I’ll be overdosing in humble pie!!

I fear however that he has ran his course and we need to show more ambition and invest in our squad now because his approach recently has allowed deadco to close the gap and his performance last summer as our CEO was unacceptable.

That's all very well and good, but nobody has yet come up with an appropriate replacement.

If there is a candidate out there who can balance the financials and spend extravagant amounts of money on improving the squad - without sending the club careening into oblivion, then I'm all for it!

The huns are punching above their weight financially, but payback (at premium interest rates) is a bitch.

Wait till Tuesday and see what happens in the next few weeks. If we end up in another groundhog day scenario, then I'll eat humble pie with chocolate sauce and give him pelters too.

It’s simple really...if we win the 10 then the man has done his job and we all got it wrong ???
If we don’t win the 10 then I make a bow-tie oota his baws with a rusty knife.
As a business man very few better, but when it comes to spending it on players. Mm could do better. A lot ducking better.
Anyway bow ties are better cut with a sharp Spoon.

HH ??

The one major issue I have, is that he places a lot more emphasis on marketing than the product on the pitch. To use a business term - it requires synergy to blend two conflicting ideals into one common purpose.

The disco lights are great and all, but they didn't score any goals. The museum and hotel plans are also interesting, but they still don't help the players on the pitch.

There is a way to achieve all of these things, but it requires more than one person having that much influence in the decision making process.

I still believe he's the best man for the job, but he has to ease up on the absolute power and allow other people to be active in making decisions which are going to benefit the club.

For me Dermot and PL are right up there just behind the Bunnet. They are the ones that have us turning over as a well run business. They are businessmen first and then fans. It is easy to spend way more than you can afford especially in the football world, They have to balance out what is required to win the Scottish league and keep a healthy bank balance and to me they have done a pretty good job over the last 8 years and I have faith in them to Continue in this way, away past the ten. However they have to be prepared for the unthinkable and Celtic not to get the European monies and therefore be left with such high player wages that they could send us down the gurgler.

Fire away )))
