Truth or Dare ??

Agreed. The problem is that we need a detailed psychological profile on each player. Nowadays we have research findings that can tell us how to get the best out of a player Performance even in a professional can be raised or lowered either internally or externally. As a general principle most players do not respond well to abuse. It makes the abuser feel gratified for a moment but there’s no evidence that it’s the best option. Psychological enhancement of a team of individuals is a grossly underdeveloped aspect of sports science.
and Celtic don't know this, did Leigh Griffiths "magically" fight his demon's by himself!

Psychological performance is crucial to any human being, from cradle to grave give anyone praise and the self esteem automatically rises, give a negative the opposite negatives feelings occur it's not confined to any professional it's basic human reaction. And a professional footballer really should give his all no matter what.

He's talking out of the hole in his arse. Embarrassingly deluded. This guy has an horrific attitude and that will worry potential suitors. If you look at all the players who have left us to go and play at the very highest level, they have almost all given Celtic everything. Wanyama, Virgil, Dembele etc. Ntcham had about one good game last season. Not even being hyperbolic. He was magnificent against Sevco in the first game at Celtic Park. He was pretty much non-existent from there on out.

To be a quality player, you need talent, yes, and Ntcham certainly has that, but you need a first class attitude. Ntcham lacks that. If I was a scout having watched last season and assessing his attitude, I wouldn't touch him with bargepole. Having said that, I hope we get rid of him for a tidy profit.

Certainly think there is a player there. But when does it become apparent to him? Man city ..Celtic who next in his lexicon of challenges?

Sorry but there’s no evidence that praise raises self esteem. That’s a common fallacy. The only thing that gives you self esteem is mastery over adversity

S
No offence but is that from a clinical view? Mastery can come from adversity in many forms, and praise no matter how small can be a catalyst.
sorry but I can assure you that praise is not how you raise self esteem. I do not agree as a clinician that praise is a catalyst. It can be just boosterism

That's a pretty definitive statement, Doc, and not one I'm sure I subscribe too.

There are obvious examples of people who have enormous reserves of self-esteem who wouldn't recognise adversity if it oopsed them upside the head.

Even allowing for someone like Donald Trump, for instance.

Trump's failings as a businessman are well documented, yet how can he be the master of adversity when he has a $400 million safety-net from his father's estate and an infinite capacity to fuck other people over?

That's the modern standard for mastering adversity and I'd rather have self-esteem based on my efforts at helping others, rather than by screwing people over.

Surely as a psychotherapist, positive reinforcement is a tool that you must use to rebuild a shattered psyche?

No. Not at all. The skill is to motivate him to achieve mastery over his adversity. That’s what appears to have happened with Griff and I’d love to know who helped him
No doubt you being a professional man can fill in the blanks.Given his life style am sure decisions and Consequences where not far off the agenda, the better thing is he choose to Go and seek help, should be a lesson for anybody with mental health problems ...don't feel ashamed...ever.HH☘☘

I think you are conflating self esteem with optimism and arrogance. I do not believe that Trump has true self esteem. He has delusional optimism. This is a complex area but the American belief that praise raises self esteem has been shown to be false. I am a taxi driver type therapist I ask where do you want to go. Not the traditional what brings you here

Nah, I'll persevere with my point of view on that one and go all in with Putin, Un, Johnson, Xi and too many others too mention.

They don't all suffer from delusional optimism, but they all exhibit extreme narcissistic qualities and oceans of self-esteem based on........fucking folk over.

I'm sure if someone critiques your own job performance and philosophies, it might smart a little, Doc.

Do you not get a small tingle of satisfaction when someone praises your work?

That’s exactly my point a small transient tingle of satisfaction does not raise my self esteem one iota

Certainly not Conflating (bringing the two together) my point was that that true self esteem can come through small praise, it's a stepping stone for self worth. Trump is an a complete idiot with unrealistic views of himself or reality. Complete fantasy that boarders on nihilistic delusion, worth a $200 time on a couch.
