KT departure latest... New Music Meister required?

With the SUN declaring that Arsenal have reportedly offered the required £25 million demanded by Celtic to secure the signature of our Left Back is it now inevitable that we lose the Bhoy during this transfer window?

As much as he loves Celtic and the fans reciprocate his affection for our Club it's a fact that we have been denied his services for some major games recently through lengthy injuries some acquired in rather dubious and unprotected scenarios

Since coming through the ranks of the Academy and breaking into the 1st Team he has been the consummate professional as well as a diehard fan happily cheering from the stands whenever his fitness decreed him unfit to play

It would appear that the cluggers and hatchet men of Aberdeen and Motherwell among others have ultimately succeeded in contributing to KT's departure

High profile assaults tackles and subsequent injuries carried out on the lad with surprisingly little or no retribution either immediate or retrospectively from on field officials or Compliance Officers and their cronies might indicate that KT is 'fair game' and a 'marked man' within our country's game

At 22 KT has the world quite literally at his feet and I think it would be churlish for us not to send him on his way with our resounding thanks and support ringing in his ears

As a TR3BLE TR3BLE winner he will go down as one of Celtic's legend's and favourite sons and deservedly so

Some might say that after only 4 seasons playing in the 1st team and departing the Club at the tender age of 22 such accolades being bestowed on the Player are perhaps a trifle excessive
I however would argue that his effort commitment and strength of character combined with his leadership qualities and fanatical support of the team define him as a True Great

Compared with some of his contemporaries Boyata Dembele N'tcham and Snake Oil the guy has been exemplary in his behaviour while dealing what MUST be an unsettling time both professionally and personally for him

Although it will be a massive and wealth inducing move for KT personally I believe that Arsenal is the wrong Club for him to exhibit display and deploy his skills but if he treats this move as a stepping stone as many other former Celtic players have when initially moving down south I say without any fear of contradiction that he will move on to a higher level again after being showcased in the EPL

How many Celtic players made the move to England and subsequently disappeared off the radar or floundered in a pool of mediocrity?

Recently Armstrong Hooper Donnelly Kayal Ki Mcdonald Wanyama Ledley McGeady to name a few
All decent players for us but unable to stamp their authority with their new Clubs The possible exception being Wanyama to an extent

On the other hand Dalglish Macari Van Dijk have and will go on to become household names both in England and further afield and I believe that it's to this group that Teirney belongs and with proper training handling and management he will go on to become as big a name as the others in this group

I think that he'll need to move on from Arsenal if that's where he ends up to establish himself as a true great but from what I've seen from him over the past few seasons I think that the only person capable of holding him back is himself and with his mindset work ethic and dedication to his craft I can't see that happening

So if and when you do leave us KT thank you for your contribution to the success we've enjoyed over the last few seasons and I'd love to see you back cheering on the HOOPS from the stands with your mates

You've taken your opportunities so far and got to where you are Push on from here and establish yourself as World Class and possibly the best Manx footballing talent ever

IF KT goes and that is not a certainty remember he will always be a Celtic fan first and always. His parting gift if he does go is a massive and real warchest. The English transfer window closes on 8th August and we will just have played hopefully in the first leg of the third round of CL qualification. There will be a large number of England and Europe based players available for loan deals or transfers. The Scottish deadline is Sept 2. His transfer money could gain us a new right back, and a forward and another couple of players

If KT does leave, and it's still a 50/50 imo, it will be because he wants to leave, this injury he has could derail the transfer for a while though. If Arsenal cough up the money they will want KT to sail through a medical, this could drag on now through the whole bloody window which doesn't do any party any good.

Sun, are you serious Bill , i hope its an onlione edition and you have not bought that rag. Would not believe the Sun with a story even if it was me that took KT to Arsenal myself.

Don't buy or read any newspaper Red Top or Quality although quality in relation to a newspaper is a bit of a contradiction

I do believe that it's inevitable that the lad is going to leave sooner or later and probably sooner than later and with £3 Mill being forked out on Mbombo as a replacement/cover I think it's obvious to a blind man going up a hill on a 3 legged donkey that a deal will be concluded soon no matter who or which publication breaks the news

The BBC are running with it too. If and it's a big if he actually passed a medical and signed we'd have one full back. Hopefully Lawwell will slow the process until we get our targets in otherwise we'll suddenly be paying a premium

A little gentleman's agreement between both clubs would be nice Niall, if we decide to accept Arsenals offer that is. Something along the lines of "dont bloody tell anyone till we have finished our transfer business"
Or we might find that a £5 million player we are looking at all of a sudden doubles in price.

Spot on. Immediately negating any advantage we'd have over the English transfer window closing before our own. Even the loan fees would sky rocket

Arsenal will be well aware of KTs injury situation and with the English Transfer window slamming shut in about 3 weeks or so they'll be desperate to get their business done

If on the other hand for whatever reason KT doesn't vacate the Club in this window the upcoming 5/6 months should afford him ample opportunity to get back up to full fitness and hopefully strut his stuff in CL Group stages which would surely enhance his valuation to any would be suitor

With Mbombo his no1 understudy and Johnny Hayes as back up to him I think Celtic will accept any bid which matches or exceeds their own valuation

Along with possible windfalls coming in for N'tcham and Calmac if reports are to be believed I think income of £50mill and possibly higher is feasible enabling us to replace with some quality and earmark some fit the New Hotel complex

Would I want to see KT go?
Although I love him to wee tiny bits if it was to benefit the greater good of the Club then I'd have to say Yes

Too many of our assets have gone with no or little compensation Larsson being the most high profile and Dalglish being another Marquee deoarture

As long as the team improves overall I think anyone is for sale..... At the correct price

Although as you say we'd have 1 full back we would still have cover at LB in Johnny Hayes who has demonstrated his versatility in that berrh

The insertion of Ajer at RB v Sarajevo was a necessary experiment by Lenny me thinks and shows how much confidence he holds in young Ralston's abilities

Hopefully with 3 recognised CBs and Nir Biton as cover a 1st choice RB will be the next arrival at Lennoxtown/Parkhead and hopefully sooner than later

We should have a look at some of the Sarajevo players when we play again

I do hope you are right. Perhaps I should have said one trusted full back. Like you say the Ajer experiment was necessary. For me however it was necessary for Lenny to show the board that at a level beyond Scotland Ralston is not the answer.
I hope Jonny Hayes doesn't muddy the waters either. He's a hard working and industrious utility player and a guy I'm happy to fill in as and when the first 2 choices for whatever position he covers isn't available. I wouldn't want to see his being there as an excuse to avoid signing another left full back should Tierney leave. I think the fact Bolignoli came straight in against Sarajevo while Jullien wasn't risked at centre half indicated Lennon may indeed feel the same way.
Much the same with Ajer showing his ability to play at right back shouldn't warrant us signing one right sided full back when we need two.
Bitton has actually impressed me greatly at Centre half, so much so that perhaps we could now do without signing a 4th centre back (i'm still not fully convinced but I'm open to continuing the experiment now). The right back slots for me are the immediate priorities and both a young player and a first choice need to be signed before any Tierney money is banked. Due in part to the extra it will cost if he goes, but also because we need two on that side even if Tierney remains. Moving Ajer from Centre half isn't something I'd like a habit made of.
Loved the post btw(y)

Completely agree, and if he goes, he should go with our blessing.

However, I would hope there the possibility that he could pull a McGrory and choose not to go, whatever the cost. That may not be up to him, contractually speaking, but still it's my hope that he says, "Tierney of Arsenal just never sounded as good as Tierney of Celtic." And stays here.
