The window opened 3 days after a poor performance/result at Celtic Park. The manager wanted experienced, first team ready players, no specifics but the consensus was 3 for the spine of the team. A central defender, a central midfielder and a striker (the manager added a winger to his wish list later in the window).
We got 2, at best, squad players. Granted in 2 of the 3 positions we needed but not remotely close to challenging the first team as regulars. We should always be in the market for promising young players, either from abroad or domestically, so the signing of Klimala and Soro are to be welcomed, but we also need to be in the market for first team ready, experienced players, especially when the manager says that what he wants.
Given our financial muscle, £40m+ in the bank, we could have blown any opposition away in this window, not just this season but next and probably beyond, we chose not to. Again. Why? What’s the benefit of huge amounts of money in the bank when we have obvious weaknesses on the park?
We should still win the league, but it is by no means certain. We are 2 injuries to 2 key players (they’re both French) from a fuck up. And that would be unforgivable.
