Did we fall into the SMSM trap over Christie?

Can I point out that I'm not for a second defending Christies season, he has absolutely failed, with the rest of the team. But out of all the players that have appeared to have sold the jersey, he has probably took most of the abuse from the fans. Last season he scored 20 and assisted 16. His confidence was up and the odd blast over the bar didn't matter because he put away some screamers.....but this season his confidence has been at an all time low with the rest of the squad. Has that been the cause of his poor performances??....not according to celtic fans...including me. And why?? Because he wants away?? He is protecting himself....and why do we think that?? Because his dad told us all so, didn't he??

"Ryan is very ambitious and he loves playing for Celtic. But I have no doubt there will be other clubs looking at him. To score 20 goals from midfield by March, it would be mad for scouts not to have him on their radar, and I mean at the very top level.

“I would temper that by saying that he’s having the time of his life at Celtic. He’s got a nice flat in a nice area of Glasgow and he says there’s a real bond in the changing room and he’s very close friends with a lot of guys in there.

"I think Ryan could play at that level, there are a lot of Celtic players who could. They have an abundance of talent. We watch the English Premier League and see how John McGinn has thrived, how Stuart Armstrong is doing so well. I just don’t think we give our players enough credit.”

Now I'm going to hold my hands up and say I never read Christies dad's comments before. I went along with the mob mentality and got angry over Christies alleged desire to move away. But reading his dad's comments he says nothing of the sort. Here is a dad praising the levels of Scottish players and praising his son. Why wouldn't he want his boy to earn 60 or 70 grand a week elsewhere?? He's seen other young Scots do it. All parents want the best for their kids.

As far as I'm aware, these quotes turned up in the Glasgow Times and were probably sold to the fans as a "Christie wants away from Celtic says his dad" article...and a lot of fans, like me, wouldn't want to give the media the clicks so only saw the headline.....have they completely done us. Have they made us direct anger at one of last seasons best players and shoot his confidence to absolute pieces??? Again I'm not excusing him.....but have we as fans fallen into a trap set by the media??

Now if there is actual quotes out there by Christie Snr saying he is to good for Celtic and should be down south then please let me know!! Then I can make this an "Imatim thread" and ask WC to delete 😁

Very tricky one Lubos and a good question raised.
Personally believe such a toxic changing room was created by our powers to be as the 10iar was not really on there agenda whatsoever, as the only one's who could stop celtic and the 10 were celtic and must admit I never saw it coming.
Christie is possibly our best example of how such an affect can have upon a player.
He is also the best example of how standards can drop so dramatically when you can create chaos within the camp.
I certainly can understand a young player wanting away from such a playing environment and his performances certainly showed us that imo and his father's comments only added to his fall from grace.
What now for him?
A tough decision for the new manager imo, I could only see Christie at best ever playing for an EPL side that would struggle in relegation trouble.
Don't believe he would ever play for a club as big as ours and been part of the success that it can bring.
So the question remains weather the potential money elsewhere is a far bigger attractive proposition than having a successful career at celtic.
Sorry to say I think money may have become a bigger motovater now, so cash in on him and give Henderson his chance imo

To do that you need to have a .

imatim never had a .

After he scored that belter, can't remember against who, he seemed to try to do it every time he got the ball, over confident if anything, and we know where most of them ended up, row z. There is a big disparity in wages, he's on 8k a week an others are on double if not treble. To me that's no way to create a good team mentality so I hope the new CEO sorts that shit out.

Had no problem with his father talking up his son , on this seasons showing who would buy him ,he hid the whole season ballooned everything thats came to him and as far as i can see been under no pressure

The days of believing the media narrative are long gone ,we could all see with our own eyes he wasn't interested

Certainly had a massive drop in form, as had ALL the team, there a decent player in there, it’s up to the new manager to see if he wants him to stay or go, on his day, he’s a player to build a team around, but like ALL the team, has been posted missing this season

Would you still want to keep hold of him BB?

One of the problems we have is that when players like Christie goes on international duty he joins up with the likes of Armstrong who is making almost 10 times as much as Christie playing for an average side like Southampton, this exacerbates the attraction of playing in the top 2 divisions down south. We haven't any real idea of how much he had been offered in the new contract but it won't be worth as much as a middle Premier league team so, I think we need to put it down not to greed but to a young man who may be interested in earning enough money to set himself up for life, we may not like it but we can't afford as a club to pay more than we can afford. That would make us as bad as the klan. I think most of us if given the opportunity to do the same job for more money would be very tempted. HH

Of course it would be mancbhoy and as many have pointed out before, apparently on a very low wage in what he could get elsewhere, and maybe we aren't paying enough to keep hold of younger players who have proved to be worth more than we are offering?

The Scottish media put a negative spin on every Celtic story. Would they deliberately misquote, or take out of context, everything that Charlie or Ryan Christie have said ? Fuckin right they would and we all know it.

And that's my question..have some fans fallen for the media's spin to unsettle one of our top players from last season. Christie has been criticised, righty, for his performances this season...but he's been no worse than everyone else. But there's been a lot of fans on his case over wanting away due to what his dad is supposed to have said....now if the comments that I've quoted before are the supposed "he wants away" statements then the media have done a proper job on turning celtic fans against him.

I'm just going to say this. I think Christie caused unrest amongst the Scottish players and Ntcham amongst the French. Get the two of them to fuck as they thought they were better than Celtic. Especially Ntcham as he's fucked himself big time in France, mothafukkin loser.
Not so sure about Christie causing unrest so much, definitely ntcham I would say, still would keep Christie before ntcham

If I was Christie I'd be questioning playing for the best fans in the world after the shit he's had to take this season, and the shit his dad's taken....and I'm one of the fans that gave it!! But I was angry at his dad's comments (that I had never actually read 🤦) and him apparently wanting away from the club. The whole squad has let us down and deserves our criticism but I'm ashamed to admit that Chritie recieved a bit more from me due to what his dad is supposed to have said.......
