Some basic psychology football research

I actually believe the points the Doc has brought up are worthwhile considering.

Sports psychology is a big thing. It can be the difference between winning and losing imo.....it can all come down to very fine margins.

So to positively influence a player, or a team, or both, by making them believe they have a psychological advantage.....any psychological advantage over their opponents.....can only be beneficial and helpful in promoting a positive mentality in my view.....and a positive mentality is a winning mentality.
Sometimes it is ,and sometimes if it dosen't work the person crumbles and becomes a nervous wreck

:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL: Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

That might have been worth watching.

And as it turned out, how many goals did it cost us? One? Two? In a 5-2 aggregate set? Yeah, this study wins me over completely . . . NOT.

Sports psychology is a crock. The game -- any game -- is very simple. You're either better than your opponent or you're not, and that can change from game to game.

There's a myth that the people who take the field are somehow "different" than the average human -- they're not. They just play a children's game a lot better than the rest of us, and get paid obscene amounts to play it. They laugh, cry, bleed, and of course make mistakes like the rest of us. And, of course, they could use a good analysis -- and help when necessary -- from a mental health professional, but I think that would fall under the category of "psychology" and not a made-up specialty like "sports psychology."

Your point is correct

it's only a Game

British cycling whipped to death that phrase marginal gains. Cliché that it became it became just that for a reason. Colours of Goalie jerseys aside the brain will be explored for sporting gain.
We already have players, fitter, faster, stronger. We have them so close to robotic that the ones who just play the game off the cuff are few and far between cos the field only has room for roadrunners. Physically it's difficult to see where much improvement can be made.
Where do they go next?
Well VAR has now decided as referees haven't actually got better with professionalism as was promised (just like the fat girl usually isn't as pretty when she loses the weight after all) that instead of say creating referee universities across the World we've decided to use technology to help iron out the 'deficiencies' plus we can get big technology firms to rob the game of even more money, that the punter will pay for with their TV subscriptions.. Idea being the teams with the best players and therefore the richest will win out in the end as long as we get rid of the pesky moments where human error got in the way.
Maybe psychology is the way to go. Brain training beyond learnt behaviour. In fact perhaps the next logical step is just to skip past the psychology altogether.
Much like training referees properly it takes too long for the governments that own football now to see an immediate return on their investment.
Probably quicker to get some micro chip in to the brains of the players or better still get some avatar or robot on the field and the 'players' can all sit somewhere miles away and the one's with the most advanced brains can project their thoughts like the Borg from Star Trek. Maybe we can link all those brains into two huge groups of collective thought and just watch some messed up version of perfection football under the guise of Real Madrid vs Barcelona every week. No goals of course as the defending would equal out the attacking, just beautiful technique on a loop going nowhere.

Or maybe we can just accept some human error and have a good craic debating how it might have been cheating over 6 pints of heavy after the game...Like the good old days :)

I fucking love the big maniac. Best goalie I have ever seen play for us.
The secret of goalkeeping is in not letting a screw-up screw you up!

Whenever big Artur threw one in, he'd just throttle a full-back and get back in the game.

The bigger the stakes, the better he played........goalkeepers can melt on the big stage, but he feckin loved it!!!

As it should be.

P.S.: I don't care if it does "help us," VAR sucks. Period.
With you! This idea that now we'll have a fairer maybe even level playing field for Celtic also brings out the cynic in me. When we had one ref with subjective decisions to make we often got screwed. Now we'll have a ref and 4 pals sitting in a room with the same old agenda and still able to 'interpret' what they saw.

You say it sucks, I say it's Baws. Same conclusion:)
