Good post John but the one thing I cant see happening is a World Cup every 2 years no matter how Greedy FIFA and UEFA are.
This means there would be a European or World Final every year IMO if this was to happen it would be catastrophic for domestic football both British and European,we only need to look at our own Bhoys mate,we would have roughly 8 on international duty at the end of the season which means they would probably miss 2 or 3 weeks of pre-season this would put us on the backfoot immediately,we also have the Olympics to consider, even if we did not have any interest in the Olympics it is another obstacle to overcome..
I personally would not like to see a World Cup Final every 2 years definitely not fair on players or their clubs and definitely not fair on supporters who want to see the best on day 1 not day 21 after the season has started..

HH.
World cups uses to be good back in the day. Watching footballers you had never seen before. Now it's just a distraction and pretty poor in general with crazy rules in play to allow people who have lived in a place for 5 years to represent that country.
They should just pan international football , just have it up to under 23 level

not according to the accounts

had club not got into EL this season we would not reach anywhere near 70 Million

CL group is very possible but unless we need to win league imo

And with honest mistakes its getting harder

And the current costs increase further with CL qualification bonuses

So again the margin to improve the current squad is catch 22

And its limited by the already huge operation costs

total director remuneration last season was 1.5 million, 3.9 the year before that

And i doubt you can get better results for less from directors, possible but i dont see top execs wanting it for less
The main point you seem to be missing is that no - one wants to see our board behaving in the same manner as sevco, the majority of the supporters realise the constraints of playing in Scotland, we would however like to see the investment in players carried out with more ambition, by this I mean getting them in before champions league qualifying, thus giving us a better chance to qualify. I am not demanding that we spend money just for the sake of it. You seem to think that we all just want to empty the bank account. The club invests in players most years, some of us think that we should do this with the intention of getting a better chance at CL, not as has become the habit, until after we have failed. The solution is surely to be more proactive in identifying possible players who will improve the first team squad. This is of course a gamble, but lack of ambition is the best way to start a cycle of decline. HH

How do you fulfill your wants without paying over the odds?

How do you get players good enough to sign early in the window without breaking the budget restraints?

I want what you want
I suspect the board want what you want
But you blame board for things they cant control without paying over the odds even if the other team wants to take up the premium offer.

Im asking you how any board can fulfil your request within tight budget requirements?

the best way to start a cycle of decline is paying over the odds for players and breaking your own budget contraints in a market where others are subsidised and you need to fund the traditional way.

I hate to say this but in my opinion the cycle of decline started in 2012, with the 5 way agreement, PL's belief that we could not survive without the scum, and the willingness of our board to be instrumental in the saving the team from Ibrokes, I understand your point of view on finance and the disparity caused by the excessive amount of money "invested" by sky in the EPL, but it is that disparity that means that our board look at ways of increasing our income, I guess you probably disagree with the majority of us, will being more proactive in the search for talented players who won't cost the earth benefit us as a club, in my opinion it could benefit us in 2 ways, if signed early enough a better chance of getting into the CL, and secondly as a club well-known for developing players a 2nd income stream from player sales, players already identify our club as a stepping stone to the EPL, thanks to players like VVD,and Winyama, this is why I'm mystified with the reluctance to sort out the clubs scouting. I just think we could do better, HH

I dont disagree with the theory of buying cheap good enough players

But the problems are outwith the board power to solve in value added way in the current set up imo

If the dude being spotted as good enough, is actually good enough, then the minute Celtic get mention the likes of lower EPL level teams can gazzump us

and agents know this

On top of that Man city and other farm clubs can acquire the player and loan him out to the other CL hopeful teams or even us

They get better base wage that way

And in the current tv football world its easy for scouts to watch players from the globe

The timings in are blocked in 3 ways

Clubs want best price: selling before end of window means they might miss out on better offer and might need that dude for their own European challenges

Agents want bigger cut so want best wage for player

And other clubs getting more income in bigger leagues can and will gazzump us if they can get the bargain

No board can navigate that without paying bigger premium for early release and often agents will demand much larger wages unless its right on the window

I want players in early that are better than we have
I bet your life the board do to

But we are hamstrung in the market when we have small fish traditionally getting 100M upfront everyseason from Sky

it creates massive inflation in wages of all players in all leagues for the player we want

The club cannot afford to get into bidding war with Sky clubs

And Celtic track record of finding gems mean when a player gets mention from agent Celtic want him

Agents can and often do find EPL clubs to tempt them with bigger wages

Thats not something any board can control without bigger revenues
And we are already on the cusp of maximum wage threshold with bidding for players Low EPL want for their collections

In Glasgow and Scotland generally we get the same inflation as EPL without the subsidy

We have same markets but have diminished funds

How many people watch Celtic or Rangers worldwide when sky show game

I bet its more viewrs than low EPL clubs

But they get the bung and we get all the problems those subsidies create

its the rigged system

The budgets dont have much room for better players unless these better players come for low wages in comparison to uk market for their talents

The board cannot force anyone to sign early

therefore blaming them for failing to find good enough for CL early is not really very fair

Don't necessarily disagree with you on these points, I wish I could come up with a solution to the "sky problem", I would say however that the current board is lacking in fresh blood and that it has become stale with an acceptance of the status quo, Dom was the first new blood in a while and was quickly deemed "not a team player" so the lack of fresh ideas continues, again chance of perhaps finding a newer view to the problems you detailed. Something needs changing to try to find a better solution for our club. HH

im quite happy for them to be replaced on grounds of silence and their general aloofness from the support

But deep down I think they are silent because there is something the board dont want revealed

What that is I have no idea

But my imagination runs wild

And the lack of legal remedy for the attacks on club based on what appears spurious diversion has allowed the whole situation to fester fester

the lack of transparency is alarming imo

So on those grounds sack the board

But the notion they have not been very good at running the club finances and therefore the sustainability of club - i vote not proven

Another thought occurred to me after re-reading your post, as you rightly say that agents do indeed use our interest in players to make more cash for the players and thus themselves, and as you say its a basic fact of life, one of the problems is, I think that PL's reputation towards the end of his tenure at CP was more of a hindrance, than a blessing and as a result our recruitment became less effective, a question I would ask is do we have a scouting network, I say this as some of our latest recruits look like bargains, have we fallen into the habit of restricting our scouting to Western Europe, thus as you say being easy meat to the European agents,. We have a mgr who has worked in the far East, could this along side Eastern Europe and parts of Africa, and the Middle East be areas where bargains could be found, not forgetting we are a worldwide name. As an option I do hope that we can find those players who are, gems waiting to be discovered. This is one reason I think that we really need new blood, in the boardroom, someone who can put forward a viable case for a re-hash of recruitment. HH

Agreed on the financial security they have overseen, but as you say something eats away at thier general lack of defence of the club. HH

This is what you get from a PLC - the shareholders ( and directors? ) come first !
It is NOT run for the 'customers ' but does take advantage of these 'customers' actually being FANS who will support The Club regardless of which cnut is running The Club .

An exercise in Taking the Piss !

HH
The same as every other big club they all act the same way unless ur a Chelsea
