Bad language on ‘Celtic Noise’

I understand your response to the use of bad language and the points you make but to encompass the words for the sake of it ? Again your point on the feelings that are evoked at times yes to a certain extent I can understand but to go into a rant and overuse them I don't know and I will not walk away if people felt I was wrong

I hear what you’re saying too. I don’t like over use as it can detract from what is written, but it can also add so there is a balance. Using certain words to attack people on here I don’t agree with, calling them certain things can be aggressive and threatening and I think arguments don’t need to descend into that. As I said on another thread, calling someone a hun because you don’t agree with them
Is worse than calling me a cunt. That’s just me and I have responded to that in an angry way in the past. I tend not to now but I couldn’t have a go at someone who lost the plot with that as I have done that too.

It’s a matter of balance. I hate bans on certain discussions, focus on words used as opposed to what us being said. These words are just words andcare part of everyday communication. There is an old fashioned Puritan attitude to their use that I despise as it’s effectively hypocritical as everybody uses them. Words aren’t bad, they may be innapropriate at certain times, but in a forum about our team, which can be emotive is not one of those times is my view.

I’m sure the ignore button could be employed by people who are offended. The offended should never be allowed to have the upper hand though in what is discussed, what is written or how it is written. Self censorship is ok. Dont read stuff that irks you. That’s your choice. Don’t make it a rule to be mine or anybody else’s. That’s my position.

Great post big man. Pc brigade in overdrive!

I can’t make it to games right now mate, (my missus has recently had an operation and is currently undergoing post-op cancer treatment) so this forum starting up has been so good for me, discussing all things Celtic that i’d normally do on the bus or at Paradise etc

I love the Celtic, and want to have the craic with fellow minded folks, maybe my OP sounded demanding or censoring, it wasn’t intended that way, thanks for understanding matey ??

We had her niece and nephew overnight so she’s taking them home now while I have a few beers and watch the killie game, tmrw brings a trip to the cancer specialist who did the operation and also the radiotherapy dept, she’s already been started on chemo tablets which has taken a lot out of her so thanks for your prayers bud ???

In general the chat here has been great, some excellent discussion between ourselves on all sorts of Celtic related topics but ocassionally we have let ourselves down (myself included) with some bad language, this is more notable on match days/nights, probably when alcohol has played a fair part and coupled with our team not hitting the heights we expect from them it’s led to frustrations and not being as tolerant of each other’s views that we normally accept in an amicable way.

We’ve a cracking new forum here folks, let’s not ever ever let the standards drop to the Neanderthal Hun like filth we’ve all come across when we’ve gone for a giggle and lurked on follow follow etc

Onwards and upwards for a cracking season and 8 in a row.

?? ?Hail Hail? ??

In general 'industrial language' has become a more and more integral part of the English language so where do we draw the LINE?

As an aside Andy Walker is a prick

HH

Unless someone says:
Going for 55
Gap is closing
Old firm
Ra ranjurs are coming
Same club
And finally when the media says

"(Insert name of Celtic player who has had good game) is leaving to go to (Insert English club) in the next tranfer window"

Then you can swear like you were 15 with your mates and yer maw is at the shops!!!!!???
.
Ma maw's deid HH

Spey,
Please pass on my kindest regards to your better half. My thoughts and prayers are with You all. Remember You Never Walk Alone HH??????

All the best to Speysides lady, and hope it all goes well...illness takes precedent over everything else.. and personally I find everyone on here top tims, and don't care if they drop the odd sweary..I am amongst my own and love it.

I once read a University thesis about swearing and honesty.

And apparently people who swear frequently tend to be worth listening to if you ever want to get to the heart of something.

Now I have no idea if thats worth believing. But it did make me listen a bit closer to people offing and blinding on topics that I was interested to get a deeper understanding. Whether I got closer to the truth on these topics is very subjective. But it did appear to be valuable. When we turn off through bad language sometimes we miss the deep stuff through auto rejecting their voice through offence.

Sometimes wonder if the PC brigade (usually the ones worth watching in my opinion) tend to be on the narc spectrum. May actually be good way to program humans into stop searching for the deeper truths.

I searched for the original study but couldn't find it. But did find an interesting piece from year or so ago by independent that makes similar claim.

Many thanks for those posters who posted such kind messages and offered prayers... Mrs Speyside (Mandy) starts a 4 week course of radiotherapy a week on Monday and hopefully chemo won’t be needed once this finishes.

In my prayers Speyside.

Hope all goes well.

Swearing in print does not take into account the demeanour and the delivery of the word. My mate does a wee monologue on the power of the f word and what it can mean by way of context and delivery. Amazement, anger, shock, joy, terror and even the bedroom, if a foul mouth gets ye going, are all represented in this word. Sometimes only a f will do. It covers any and all situations. For instance if the Tic win tonight, f..ing brilliant. If we lose its, f..ing awful. If we draw its, f.....ing extra time. F...ing has power that cannot be f...ing beaten.

Bad language on the thread. In this case I'd like to know what was said on the park tonight.
DB had a wee shout, repeated in fact. The marker was none of the lads round him complained about the red. Naughty. He must of been at it. Any lip readers out there?
Think it's funny this is a swearing thread. **** to explain please

Much in the same way as another F word Forgetaboutit HH?

I like swearing, and the points others make about expressiveness and emotional honesty are well made. The points about any request for a discussion about moderation being in any way "PC", or restricting freedom of speech are not. When I'm speaking, I have a very good idea who can hear me; I moderate my language out of respect for others, if I don't know them. Because while language can express feelings with clarity and concision, some emotional outbursts can and do make other people uncomfortable. It is wholly disrespectful to say "That's their problem, the main thing here is that I do as I please," and it speaks to a sense of entitlement. It seems to me that all we're being asked to do here is consider being respectful...isn't it?
Best wishes to Mandy and Speyside Lhad at a difficult time for you both.
