Has been widely reported that a high ranking DUP official stated that they wanted the border built as high as possible.

They have to maintain a level of objectivity in public now they are on the national stage.

They live to hate, mate. It is their reason for living - those of you who live in Scotland know that only too well with the Sevco support. Without hatred, without supremacy and without us all bending to their will only gives them more reason to express that hatred in public.

Sammy Wilson once described Catholics as 'sub-human'. Very little was made of it and certainly it was never reported in the British press to any noteworthy degree. That is what we have had to endure all our lives - if that is said in public, just how bad is that hatred within their own private discussions?

Personally, I believe this deal 'has' been done irrespective of what we are hearing.

If, say, the DUP were responsible for a No Deal then the hatred for them from the English/Welsh will be immense.

It's a win-win scenario for Nationalist/Republicans in the North of Ireland.

The UK and a political group in NI is not going to derail an agreement between the UK and EU.
Anybody in NI think they can hold the EU let alone Westminster to ransom is deluding themselves.

The EU will not do special deals on behalf of one state, it simply could not politically.
If the EU start making special deals effectively for nations who are not subject to the rules, then the EU is finished.
No if the border becomes a hard border and a problem they can just point to the facts, the reality is the border is not the EU's making and neither was the Brexit vote or outcome. They never sought to change the agreement or law or rules!

What I was saying - in a very unclear manner - was that I believe:

1: A No Brexit Deal won't happen as I don't believe the British government will let it happen. It would be economic suicide which it is anyway, no matter what way they do things. It is incredibly ludicrous all round.

2: The EU - pointed out correctly by a few - cannot go against the GFA.

Therefore, the only course of action open to the British is to accept the 'Backstop Option' and to hell with the DUP.

If the British opt out of the Custom's Union, the economic implications are ruinous, it really cannot be stressed the magnitude of stupidity involved.

Now, although it may be funny to laugh at their lack of foresight, the effects it shall have on us all - as we move into unchartered territory - may be truly feckin' horrendous.

Does anyone know what the British position is in relation to staying in/leaving the Custom's Union?

The very fact that I'm asking is proof in itself that the ordinary person on the street has no idea WTF is going on?

In other words: Is May adamant that leaving Custom's Union MUST happen?

I have pals who are Sevconians who don’t love to hate. Who all voted Yes, who are all socialists and maybe it’s just a coincidence, all are, like me, an atheist. Religion has been the demonic for Ireland, in the descriptive sense since the reformation. Before it they were hated for being uncivilised Irish, after, uncivilised Catholic Irish.

Brexit will be a disaster for us all. Hopefully we will vote for independence. I have to be honest and say I don’t think it will happen. Those Sevconians and affiliated unionist who do claim to a religion will be enough to just win the day. I hope I’m wrong, but I just can’t see it.

I suppose I should have stated the 'majority' and even that is, probably, incorrect also.

I don't really see how those who actually do, 'live to hate', can claim to be religious in any way, shape or form - but quite a number claim to be so.

Ireland has probably done more to rip away the social power base of the Catholic Church in recent times and that is a good thing due to the amount of damage they inflicted on us all.

Loads and loads of people I know have both British and Irish passports, TET. I don't believe it's technically allowed but many still use both.

If you can apply for Irish citizenship just do it.

Nothing can really prevent emigration if you go through the correct process and are accepted - to the best of my knowledge.
