Celtic v Club Brugge, Champions League, Wednesday 27th Nov, 8pm

Engels was at this level v Leipzig, v Atalanta, v Slovan, he's a 21 year old Belgian international who has come from a league far better than ours, he's having a bad few games, it happens.
Leave him on the bench v Ross Co & Aberdeen, bring him on as sub to play the last 30 mins like Bernardo has been doing and start Paulo. Bernardo who was really underwhelming for the first 3 or 4 months after he joined us last season before kicking on.
I'd have thought the slagging Nicolas Kuhn got when he arrived last season and where he is now has shown that a wee bit of patience is required when players join us from overseas.
100%. I'm not sure too many fans appreciate how different it is playing the game is here in Scotland, then having quickly adapt to European style football against a much higher level than they have become used to domestically is very difficult. Young players often have a drop off in form, so they will struggle even more than older more experienced players trying to adjust to joining us.

Currently Engels is struggling and Bernardo has turned things around and is playing with a lot of confidence. That will possibly flip over time and we switch the starters up accordingly.

I still think McCowan deserves more time on the pitch as he has never let us down since his dream move to us.

Sorry Bhoys I have a bad feeling about ENGELS.... looks like an over priced younger version of David Turnbull .......

Hope I am wrong ....

HH 🤣👍👍

PS! Watched Cal M after match interview..... Don't know which game he was talking about .....

I believe we were VERY lucky to get a draw ..... In short he said there was only one team going to win at the end...... 😅😅 I think he forgot it could have been 3 or 4 zero in the first half 🤣🤣

Onwards and upwards 👍👍 HH
Hmmm

Not long back from the game and knackered so I'll post more tomorrow..

But tonight proved you have to turn up for every game... We didn't tonight especially first half... And I sincerely hope thats the last time for a while they 3 in the middle play together... Each of them can turn it on at various different times, but thats the last 3 games they have been mince together... One if not 2 changes needed starting Saturday..

Night night..

Ps it was still a good point earned..

Just seen the highlights comedy cuts for the goal this is why we all moan when they start playing it round the back so much. 2 poor performances so far Dortmund and tonight need the team to be set from the start can't keep expecting to turn it on in the 2nd half as it won't always work.

It's easy to make statements after the event. It doesn't mean that they are true - although you are entitled to your opinion.

It is a decent point. Some players didn't perform to their full capability, but there are very few matches where everyone does.

I'd leave it to the guy that's paid millions a year to pick the team. He spends more time with them and understands how they tick. It seems to work well most of the time.

I agree to an extent. But we aren't talking about an on-form Taylor or Engels here. Both have been poor recently and on every occasion that they have been replaced, the guys who have replaced them have performed better in the short period of time they've been on the pitch.

I understand that BR is paid millions and sees them train every day...but that's a stupid statement IMO...I'm not calling you stupid, I'm calling the statement stupid...a lot of people make that statement about the manager seeing how they train, I've probably made the same statement!! But today, I don't agree with it!! 🤣

We are constantly told by the experts that training and actually playing a match are completely different. You can be the best trainer in the world but until you get into a competitive game no one can know how you will perform. Surely both have to go hand in hand. Brendan is paid millions so he must be able to see, that even though Engels and Taylor are really amazing in training, they have been poor in competitive matches.

Are we to believe that Bernardo and Valle are shite in training? That they don't try as hard? Both players did more in half an hour than the players they replaced. Give me the shite trainer who plays well on match day any day of the week if that's the case.

Well my first champions league game for 12 years was a shocker...great to be back in the old place but that was a tough watch...pass marks for Kyogo and Bernardo when he came on..the rest were skittish and looked like they had never played with one another ...impressed by Brugges who I feel we thought were going to roll over....flat atmosphere too

Other than that, I enjoyed it thoroughly 🍀
Jinx.

It's hard to argue with someone who has covered every base in such a contradictory manner 🤣🤣

I thought that CCV, Trusty and Taylor were slow in the build up in the first half, playing it back the way, instead of going forward. Now, I’ve already said that I would like Taylor to get a new contract, but he’s maybe not ideal for CL. As regards Engels, there is a player in him, but it’s taking a wee while to settle in.
As soon as Bernardo and Valle came on, everything started going forward and at a quicker pace. Hatate should have been taken off and McCowan should have came on instead. He was getting stripped to come on and Brendan seemed to change his mind. McCowan should be getting used more. Even starting some games. He’s never let us down when he does come on.
First half we were slow and boring to watch. After the substitutes we were more like ourselves.

I’ve made this point many times. Training and a match are 2 totally different things. In real games the opposition are trying to kick you 10ft in the air, not standing around applauding your skills like your training buddies.
By the way I heard that George Best was the shittiest trainer ever but who would have dropped him because of that?

Had a feeling Brugge would be a tough nut to crack though we came close to cracking them last half hour.
Brugge now have Sporting, Juventus at home then man city away and they will be gutted I'm sure they let that slip but our play deserved something from the game I thought.

I had my hopes , still do that we can make the next round but I didn't, and wonder how many did expect us to be where we are now with 3 to play.
Need only look at the table to see just how well we're doing. Look at the clubs around us in the table.
We may have dropped to 20th but we're sitting level on points with Man city, PSV and juventus, above Feyenoord, Brugge, PSG, real Madrid, stuttgart, 2pts off the top 8 automatic qualification spots.

After the performances at CP we've seen yes first half was poor, and we won't get away with that in Zagreb but this new format has been a breath of fresh air , this inaugural season anyway.
That's our last 4 home CL games won 3 drew 1, could we be witnessing return of fortress CP? Hope so.
Especially when we consider our gd is <0> after the 7-1 thumping in Dortmund,
P5 W2 D2 L1 is a very very decent return at this level, we'd already be through in old format.
I'll take that point gladly HH

Listen we can all BS about what we know about football as AVID fans....

But BR is meant to understand that a child like ENGELS is NOT ready for this level....

And don't get me started about his corners......

Paulo Bernardo changed the game in midfield .....

How did RODGERS not know ......????

I like Brendan but surely ........

HH
Nah , respectfully he's ready for this level and he's making inroads to the Belgium side as well.
I think there are similarities between him , Oriley and Bernardo, the 2 latter were good first season but much better with some time Kuhn as well.
Just because he cost big bucks doesn't guarantee him.or us anything , he has literally just arrived though and is still settling in to all that comes with a move to another club and country, I'm sure we'll see the best of Engels in good time.
Cal and Reo were hardly lighting up the game either and both are settled.
Oriley, Reo, Kuhn all had similar problems on arrival Engels time will come, we are very strong in midfield as always and will need all of them this season.

I really really hope that capitulation in Dortmund doesn’t come back to bite us on the arse if we ended up falling to qualify on goal difference after all the good work we have done 🙏
Our goal difference is back to <0> , after that thumping this is a great stat another that shows how strong we've been since then. Last night we should take as a reminder just how tight the table is , past Celtic sides would've succumbed after going behind not this one and its great yo see. Brugge beat villa last cl match this was definitely a pt gained ..methinks HH

The View fae 403......

Were do you start with that performance last night... 🤔🤔.

Ach well lets start with the players eh...

Kasper... Outstanding save at the start of the second half, if that goes in there was no way back for us imho... Has to take some of the blame for the goal we lost. Overall was pretty good and I liked the way he and Cal got the players together after their goal.. It was noticeably a different Celtic for 10 or 15 mins,..

The Fab four at the back, small mistakes get punished at this level, major mistakes.. Well you know the answer to that.. Our American Cb's both had a few scary moments, but both stood up and battled till the end.. AJ probably the pick of our back four, but never really got to link up much with his wee Pal on the wing (until Paulo appeared again)... Wee Greg got caught out again with a cross that went over his head fortunately the Brugge winger skied it and that was enough for Brendan.. He was hooked straight after this... Not his best game I'm afraid...

The Mids... 😱 🫣🫣😱.

Arne again struggled noticeably, should have done better with an early chance. But was ineffective going forward... Needs rested..

Reo started off poor and got worse really, no creative play but was the only one of the starting mids who could hold onto the ball..

Calmac, overran for an hour but got back into his conductor mode in the last 30..

The front 3.... Both our wingers had a tough time against Brugge who played with 3 against our wingers and overlapping fullbacks and really only when they were one on one did our wingers produce especially Daizen with a peach of a goal..

Kyogo... Tireless but his movement was ignored as our mids struggled and I dont remember him getting a sniff at all..

The Hauners... Paulo once again turned the game in our favour and done more for the team than Arne has in 3 games... Must be a starter now Brendan... Big Adam held up the ball and brought our mids into the game more than they had been... Valle within seconds of coming on made our left side look more fluent and gets an assist for the equaliser..

Jamsie.. To me had only one it two runs inside.. But for the life of me lcouldn't understand why he was brought on Daizen had the Brugge fullback dizzy by this point..

Yang on for an injured Kuhn, with no time to impose himself...

I thought the ref was reasonably OK was wasnt a card happy clown and made it clear he wasnt giving fouls just because you fell down... Although I think the Brugge CB should have been shown a red instead of a yellow when he stopped Daizen going through...

Brendan... Should have changed the mids sooner and Kept Daizen on.. Would like to see us start with plan B from now on as by the looks of it teams have sussed plan A out..

Tough night for the fans, but we got there in the end...

Is it a point won or two lost??? 🤔

We wont know till January... But after 5 games I think we are still on track...

Any supporters going to the Zagreb game could be in for an interesting evening. Dortmond fans were complaining about being herded into tents before the turnstiles to be strip-searched and have their genitals man-handled by security to ensure no pyros were smuggled into the ground.

I hear that Jamesie Forrest is planning on entering the ground along with the Green Brigade with various flares and smokebombs secreted on his person!
