First midweek league game of the season.
Referee Ross Hardie (never heard of him) VAR Matthew MacDermid.
Will Cal Mac return, will CCV start, will Idah be fit after the assault on his ankle (apparently he was still in a moon boot today)???
I'd save Cal Mac for cup semi, stick with McCowan who is cup tied for the weekend, and maybe pair CCV with Trusty and give Scales a break as he's played every game except Falkirk.

Schmiechel
AJ CCV Trusty Valle
Engels Bernardo McCowan
Kuhn Kyogo Maeda

Subs Sinisalo Ralston Scales Taylor McGregor Hatate Forrest Palma Idah (if fit, Daniel Cummings if not)

Dundee generally play good football under Tony Docherty but given recent results he may opt for a more defensive pragmatic approach.

3-0 win and on to the semi final at the weekend.

PS I think they'll be a shock result at Pittodrie and the underdogs from Govan may prevail (they usually win when expected not to against anyone other than us)

Continue with McCowan and give Calmac a full week of recovery.
I would expect CCV to start so Trusty could miss out but I'd prefer big Scales to get a breather and take a seat on the bench.
Taylor will definitely get minutes but I can't see big Idah recovering for Wednesday.
Sounds like there's maybe at least another two who took knocks so not sure how we will line up.
Dundee are decent so nothings a given.
As always I'll take the points any which way we can.
Could be a night of VAR coming to the needy elsewhere so don't be surprised if the dandys run comes to an end.
Our focus of course has to be all about us.

I'd keep CalMac in the stands to let him make a full recovery. Also, CCV needs gametime to get his match fitness up so I'd also rest Scales and pair Cameron with his US teammate Trusty.

Is Kühn struggling too? He took a really bad knock about 3 seconds after Idah was scythed down which was immediately forgotten about. VAR could well have intervened to recommend 2 red cards, so that would have been hilarious to watch Eddie Hunster's heid explode at the injustice of Scottish MIBs not getting his players deliberately cripple Tims.

We are now seeing the risk of only going into a jam packed season with only 2 out and out strikers. OK Maeda can also cover but that takes away a huge amount of workmate down our left side which is a key contributor to our successful style of play.

Schmeichel
AJ . CCV . Trusty . Valle
Engels . McCowan. Bernardo
Kühn (or Forrest) . Kyogo . Maeda
This assumes Kûhn is fit. I prefer Jamesie as an impact sub. Taylor, Hatate, Cummings & Palmer to also come on. 3-0 home win. McCowan to get clattered by a former colleague or three!

So Brendan has a few choices this midweek... Is it too early for Big Cam or wee Greg for that matter... Or more importantly should the guys in situ be bumped / rested... Does Calmac need a run before the game at hamdump??? These are the questions folks...

Me I reckon...

Big Kasper..

AJ (Capt) Trusty Liam Valle..

Paulo Arne Luke..

Nik Kyogo Daizen..

With cameos l8r on from Cal and CCV. And perhaps bringing Luis on for Kyogo and pushing Daizen through the middle..

Think we will overrun Albert Kidds former team.. Going for 6 nuffin.. Kyogo x2... Luis Luke Paulo and Alec .. 😉.

Bet of the day... 10 or more corners doubled with Kyogo to score first goal...

I'm for the rotation of the squad but also wary of it at this exact moment.
This game could very well be the moment we make a break for the title and go points clear, for this reason alone I'm not sure Rodgers will change much.
I think the same back 4 to start with CCV and Taylor getting perhaps the 2nd half for CCV and some minutes for Taylor.

This game takes us into the Hampden semi final then the champions league game v Liepzig, all 3 could be season defining games.
McCowan , Engels , Bernardo
Palma kyogo maeda to start.
Calmac and CCV to start the 2nd half if the games in hand by then , Taylor perhaps Forrest and a Yang cameo.

As much as I love to see the youth bhoys get a run out this Dundee game on its own might not be the biggest but its perhaps the key to setting our season up for the taking so too much at stake for too many changes.
A fantastic "selection headache" for Rodgers to mull over.

I think we all understand exactly what you are saying. But the problem we have at the moment is that we are in the hectic September to New Year crazy period of 2 high pressure matches every week (plus a couple of international periods when most of our players are travelling the globe). This is usually when fatigue starts to become an issue and there is either a drop-off in form with some players, or worse - they pick up niggly injuries which end up being made worse as they inevitably play through the pain barrier. I feel it is always best to pre-empt these issues by proactively keeping things fresh BEFORE they become a major problem for the side. Also, too often in the past we have had players return from injury and thrown into massive matches for us before they are up to match fitness and it rarely pays off as their lack of sharpness is exposed against better opponents.

Of course, it is always a juggling act between keeping the side fresh and making too many changes that can also result in a bad result. I think a home match against an out-of-form Dundee side (1 win in their last 8 matches, with 5 defeats in their last 6 games - I guess this is what happens when we buy their star player!) is a good one for CCV to make his comeback in. At least if he starts and breaks down then he can be replaced, but if you bring him on after an hour and he pulls up then this causes us a problem as we've already made that sub. As Taylor hasn't played yet since his return then that is when I'd bring them on as a sub towards the end of the match to get a run out.

Although we must approach each match one at a time and the players should only concentrate on this next game, it would also be negligent of our manager if he did not keep one eye on preparing the squad for two massive matches immediately following this game. So he has to secure victory against Dundee but also get the players in the best possible place for these upcoming crucial matches which will have a huge bearing on how successful our season will be viewed.

A good win will set us up for the rest of the season, not too worried about who he puts out for the start knowing that he has a strong bench to fall back on, the most interesting will be the other game an Aberdeen win or even a draw will put the cat among the pigeons, a loss for the other lot will start the blame game with a lot of finger pointing and blood letting, think Celtic will take thier form into the game think we could see3/4 goals tomorrow night can’t see Dundee stopping them

3 points is all that matters couldn’t give a hoot the scorline!!! Think Brendan’s long term plan is ccv and trusty pairing??so he will go with it again,as much as the ginger baresi has been excellent he still gives me the fear😲😬….maybe the big guy needs a wee rest anyway🤷‍♂️

It's a good point about giving him a rest as there's so many games ahead and of course the ginger Baresi plays for his country too.
