Champions league farce

The new champions league was massive success and league stage was exciting for most clubs in competition but the chance of 6 teams from England qualifying for it next season is a complete joke and a farce and something has to change
I totally get the bigger leagues should get extra places but 6 is taking the piss
The gap between the big leagues and the rest is getting bigger each season and us winning the league then having to play a play off to qualify is shit (rangers getting beat off benfica played a big part i think)
I totally get it’s hard to support other teams in Europe especially our rivals etc but something has to change with uefa before our league becomes complete irrelevant to anyone outside Scotland and that’s including ireland ( our fantastic fanbase in Ireland has already got a lot smaller than it was 20 years ago (sad but true)
I don’t even want to think the size of gap it will be in 10 years time
Maybe it’s time for Celtic and similar sized leagues should stage a boycott but it won’t happen and probably sounds daft but we need to do something
The more success clubs in England etc get in Europe means more twitter followers and more power in uefa
Love big ange but I hope our friends in Bilbao win the Europa As long as it doesn’t make Spain have 6 teams (think they will finish in top 5 anyway so shouldn’t make a difference)
 
This season's Champions League was the best it's been in many years. Any changes should be to increase the 8 league game to 10, then maybe 12 but this will require domestic leagues to re-assess the amount of games they are playing within them (& in Scotland and England's case do we need a League Cup to include the teams who qualify for Europe).
There should be a 5 team cap on the number of teams who can qualify for the CL so if England for example get the 5 places based on results on the pitch, and an English team also win the EL, then its the Top 4 + EL winners who qualify, not the Top 5 + EL winners that is looking likely for next season.
My only issue with Bilbao winning the EL is that I read somewhere that it means the huns play one qualifying round less, 2 instead of 3

The fans that follow big clubs in England are not the same it’s mostly tourists and glory hunters and the working class from they areas have been priced out
All busy recording it for social media rather than watching the game
It’s definitely changing but we need to try and find away to keep up 🍀
 
UEFA will slowly phase out the "smaller" teams. The champions League will consist of only teams from England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France. They shat it when there was talk of a breakaway league....the new champions league format was then introduced to keep the greedy leagues and clubs happy. The plan is already in motion. The big leagues will enjoy the riches of the champions league while the "wee" teams from the "wee" leagues fight it out in the Europa and conference.

Bilbao are as poor as Man u ....spurs and Bodo.......absolute lottery who wins that. Only recognised now as an avenue to CL by the Elite who manage not to qualify for the big one.

I think Celtic keep up really well with the changes financially and on the field this season in Europe.
Our returns financially are really impressive and competitive with anyone outside of the EPL.
I think in the future we will be looking at a separate Super League with the richest and most subsidised clubs in it and a European Cup scenario.
 
In August 20th and 27th we will face a two legged playoff tie to qualify for the Group stages of the Champions League. Those are truly massive matches that simply need to be won. Defeat would be awful. The winner of that tie earns over 40 million pounds. We need a settled squad in early August. Transfers need to be actioned ASAP.

We could all naively hope that Fis but unfortunately we all know that our board consists of cash hungry greedy Tories who don’t like parting with coinage until the bargain basement deals start
 
Part of the problem is the players. The ambitious ones will only sign for teams that have a chance of CL qualification. That includes us.
For me there has to be better FFP rules. And they have to be enforced immediately not years later like Man City, who still await punishment.
In a way I wish the so called big teams had fucked off to their Super league.
Let them bore the arse off their fans and leave true football fans who enjoy football based on merit rather than just money enjoy the game as we know it.

Anyone who is cash hungry knows that qualification for the group stages earns us 40 million pounds. That's significant money. Our board are not filled with stupid people. they want a successful Celtic team. Don't be blinded by political bias. I fully expect our squad to be strengthened BEFORE August 20th. That's the belief of a cash hungry Celtic supporter.

But we should be strengthened well before the 20th August so we can integrate the new players into the squad. Instead of getting them in really late so they aren't familiar with our tactics, style or their new teammates.

We will have players come in of course we always do it's the ones we might lose that worries me.
Guys like AJ and CCV, GT, Kuhn, Maeda, Hatate have all been linked with moves in MSM.
We're unlikely to lose all of those guys but I think its possible one or two might go.

I've never liked PSG. But I always liked Luis Enrique, and he has his young side playing stunning exciting fast football. I don't really want any of the 4 sides to win, though I'd possibly go for Barca. But I'm definitely not going to want Arsenal to win.

Ye need a population in excess of 40m people to be friend of UEFA. You can charge a lot more for advertising to 55m English than to 5m Scots or 10m Dutch.
Is Scotland the smallest nation (population) to play (and win) in a European Cup Final ? (twice!!)
