Todays Transfer shocker has massive implications for Rangers

Today’s confirmed sale of Mauro Icardi is an absolute shocker. Not because a team has signed a player, no no…

No, it’s a shocker because a number of weeks ago it was assumed player values had fallen, and teams would not be able to afford the ‘old’ prices. This had knock on effect for Rangers selling the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Borna Barisic, at more like £5M-£10M tops than the previously expected £15M-£25M.

No, Mauro’s departure to PSG from Inter for around £54M at the age of 27 (and Gareth Bales’s mooted move to Newcastle from Real which is proposed around the same value) confirms the predictions about football seeing sense and transfer prices normalising were absolute poppycock, and fantasy football prices remain alive and well despite all that’s happened the past two or three months.

While Morelos’ market value probably isn’t ‘as’ high as it got during his career peak of November, there is absolutely no reason this kid won’t net Rangers a hefty sum after all, given market value has remained surprisingly stable and is certainly on the rise as we speak. While it might not get to that stunning level it attained around late last year, Rangers can certainly demand well above £15M for the Colombian, and probably closer to £20M+.

As for the Croat, his sale is being less hyped, but is just as inevitable. Roma still want him, and a Croat international of his reputation and Europa League (and national) form remains as valuable as he did before.

While for a time he was looking like he could break the record set by Celtic for Kieran Tierney in the same position, he certainly will still go for a hefty amount and Rangers can probably consider him the prize asset overall, with his sale in the region of slightly more than his Colombian team mate.

But the point is simple. Despite all we’ve been through, it’s clear that football has learned nothing, financially speaking, and the staggering price for Icardi demonstrates that Rangers, paradoxically, will benefit from that when it comes to shipping out the star players when the rich boys come calling.

And that works for us

PS: If it's your Columbian player you're selling, I no pay per kilo.

The delusional abilities of the Bears takes some beating. Clubs are not stupid. They know that a cash strapped club will be beaten down easily. Sevco cannot pay the April and May wages. That's a well known fact. Would they accept $200,000 for Morelos? Absolutely. They would save on paying his wages. ST money was used for the first tranche of Hagi payments. They finished the season with massive debts as yet undeclared. Hope springs from drinking the Deludamol.

TODAYS OFFERING FROM Coco, part 1

Rangers DoF Ross Wilson has cryptically debunked almost all transfer links being made towards the club.

The increasingly-prominent Ibrox chief has been hard at work this year, wheeling and dealing, but while there are a glut of names already associated with a move to Govan, the former Southampton boss has implied it’s almost all poppycock.

Morgan Fox, Lyle Taylor, Jordan Ibe, Saido Berahino, Manuel Benson, Lyndon Dykes and Lewis Ferguson are merely seven names among a complete pile of players to be connected with a move to Ibrox this summer, but the sporting director has implied it’s all fabrication.

He said:

"One thing I will say, and I've said this since I got here, is I'm always amazed at the amount of names that are linked with Rangers. There's more names linked with us than any club I've ever been involved in before and hardly any of them are ever right so you can take from that what you will."

This is a very telling quote, and we’ll have more on it later, but the fact he’s basically said barely one of these links could possibly even be correct does suggest a hell of a lot of agents are using Rangers to get exposure for their client.

It’s not that surprising really, because we’re such a huge name with such a huge name as manager, but it does mean take 99% of the stories with a pinch of salt.

We’ll continue to report what we get, but it doesn’t mean they’re coming every time.

Far from it, it seems!

Part 2'
The same that Coco said the DOF said were non starters, are possibles. Poor Coco canny make his mind up

Another day at Ibrox and with us now ‘officially’ into the summer transfer window, let’s look at some of the main names linked with a move to Rangers, even if Ross Wilson recently poured some cryptic cold water over the stories.

Lewis Ferguson:

There’s been a lot of rumours about Derek’s son and Barry’s nephew, and he’s nominated again for YPOTY – guarantee he’ll secure it this time. He’s an excellent talent, but as we demonstrated here, he’s exactly the same statistically and positionally as Greg Docherty. Whether a deal will be done is another matter and time will tell. Rumoured price of £5M.

Lyndon Dykes:

Rangers DO need a strong centre forward who can score, and Dykes is out of contract next summer year. Rangers could get him for a little less than feared, and he’d make an outstanding capture – maybe even good enough to start.

Jordon Ibe:

Bournemouth winger is out of contract in 28 days and would be a fine acquisition – mostly on the right, the attacker didn’t have a great season last campaign with just a couple of outings in the league, but could be tempted to link up again with Jermain Defoe. He’s also only 24 and would be a lucrative acquisition for free.

Saido Berahino:

He’s a top-class player, who’s lost his way in recent years, but the talent is unquestionable. He wouldn’t be free, contracted as he is in Belgium for another year, but his scoring rate is starting to look a bit more like him again. He used to be valued around £15M.

Manuel Benson:

Another RW also hailing from Belgium, Benson is a decent talent with a bright future but not earth-shattering and we can’t help wonder if he’s one of those players using our name to get a big gig.

Morgan Fox:

Mooted as a replacement for Borna Barisic, the Wednesday LB, 26, is out of contract this summer and has managed at least 25 league outings for the Owls each of the past three seasons. The Welshman has never secured a cap for his country, but does have a few caps at the competitive U21 level.

Lyle Taylor:

We’ve been linked with the (likely) ex-Charlton striker for a while, and word is he’s close to a move north. 11 goals for the Addicks in 22 shows he’s a man in form and demand, and Lee Bowyer would be gutted to lose another one to Rangers. Especially for free given his contract is up in 28 days. This is one Rangers would be happy to nab.

Overall, those are seven of the men Rangers are linked to right now, and we have to say we have a good feeling about at least two or three of them.

Can’t help wondering how many of these are actually good enough to secure a league title though.
