Irish history

I've family in Australia, they have has votes on whether to cut ties with the Monarchy. It was close but the remainers won. Australians are fiercely independent but there is so much illegal immigration down there it's like they are hanging on to their colonial roots. Crazy I know as the originals were sent there as a punishment.
To me I think they, and New Zealand should get rid of that stain on the corner of their flags.
Although the majority of Ozies wanted a republic, the little english loving prime minster at the time (war criminal Howard) split the republic vote by insisting on a 3 way choice. They have been putting off another vote till old lizzy fell off her perch, so hoping momentane picks up again.
TBH I'm embarrass when international news points our we still have a governor general who sacked our elected labor Government. thanks to Rupert Murdoch's
vast eval empire. I hate Morduch nearly as much as the Huns.

My little girls love Horrible Histories (I do to). We have a book, amongst many, that goes through the worse disasters in history that caused the most deaths. The Irish "famine" is in there.
Although it is a child's book and the programmes on the telly are aimed at children, they have a great way of telling the gory truth without making the kids sick at the brutality, dare I say they make it quite amusing....not that pain and suffering is amusing but they make it so it keeps children engaged.
But I was surprised to find that in the case of the Irish "famine" the truth is not told. Failed crops, rotten potatoes. It wasn't mentioned that during the height of the "famine" more food was exported from Ireland than at any other time. Nor was it mentioned that carts loaded with food was escorted by armed guards, past fields of starving families to the docks.
I was very disappointed in Horrible Histories and had it not been me reading them the book, my daughters wouldn't know any different.

They gave the American Indians Indigenous people blankets infected with smallpox. There was no America till the white fuckers came
The Choctaw Nation were among many Native Americans who raised money and sent grain to Ireland to relieve the starvation. The Brits intercepted the shipments and wouldn't allow the grain in as it would have 'interfered with market forces'.

I read something a couple o years ago about the books prisoners were reading in the H Blocks. The journalist put in a FOI request and got the library lists.
Among Republican prisoners the most popular books were History, Politics, Economics plus the historical classics.
Among Loyalist prisoners the most popular books were about Serial Killers and Body Building.
It was in The Guardian about 2/3 years ago.

The ships manifest held by the insurance companies in London from the 19th Century prove beyond doubt there was enough food in Ireland. It was sent all over the world to feed the troops guarding the British Empire.
