There's not enough youngsters playing football these days. Back in the day the boys played day and night out in the street or the local park. Schools don't get as involved as they used to because they are reliant on parents volunteering and to allow them to do that they have to go through the formality of a PVG check.Problem as far as I can see with youth academy, coaches not good enough to bring the young bhoys to the level required. Needs a complete overhaul of staff and coaches.
Too many kids are happier playing FIFA on their screens than going out. Fortunately my grandson has been on a team for about 5 or 6 years now and it really has been the making of him. I'm not sure if he's a particularly good player but it has helped socialise him and kept him fit.
Essentially I don't think SPFL clubs have the same pool to catch from these days.
