MUSIC THREAD (Another one)

Damn, Ive got tickets for Simple minds and Texas at the Lytham festival in July and The Alarm were one of the Support bands along with Cast. RIP Mike Peters.
Mike had been battling cancer for 36 years but suddenly earlier this year, a few days before he was due to fly to the US for tour there, a large lump appeared on his neck. He got it checked and was told it was a swollen gland caused by an extremely aggressive form of lymphoma cancer. He has been campaigning for better awareness for decades now. I saw him in that period when he was singing with Big Country as they supported Simple Minds in Inverness in 2011. That is a good line-up so I hope you enjoy the festival, Bri.

I didn't know any of that BB. Poor guy fought the good fight for so long and it finally took him 😞.
I start radiotherapy next week for 4 weeks and I'm hoping to be recovered sufficiently to enjoy the festival in July 🤞.

I listened to a scientfic podcast last week about protons (aye, I am sad and a geek) and they were explaining why they were now starting to be used in radiotherapy as they can precisely target a specific point where they can obliterate cancer cells rather than the old style x-rays which pass right through the body killing everything they go through. It is amazing the strides science is making in research of new techniques.

They can also model the specific shapes of molecules that would latch onto specific cancer cells and design ways to chemically build those drugs. In the olden days basically they just tried chemicals that look like they might have similar properties to drugs that were mostly effective.

I'm sure you will still have some tough times ahead of you, but treatments are improving all the time. You know you have the support and best wishes of everyone on here. Take care and good luck.

I’ve been listening to some o the late 60s early 70s Ska by bands signed to Trojan records.
My two favourites this week are, The Melodians with the original version of Rivers of Babylon. Apparently the words are from Psalms in the Bible with a couple o changes.
The other song is by The Pioneers called Long Shot Kick de Bucket. A true story about a Favourite called Long Shot that dropped dead at a race at Camanas Park in Jamaica.
Long Shot fell all me money gone to hell.
