Right on, TartanTim!
I'll see your Kevin Bridges (he's great, by the way) video and raise you one Big Yin video, Michael . . .
I've been thinking about this all day, ever since Lubo posted this, and I think it's important to bring this up. If you ever watch Ntcham, Elhamed, and Elyounoussi on the field before a game, they pray, eyes closed, heads bowed, hands facing up. To me, that speaks volumes on inclusion: Excellent Muslim players suiting up and playing for a club founded by a Marist brother.
Here in the "leftie" circles I occupy in the States, I hit the "privilige trifecta" -- I'm white, male, and straight -- and we feel, generally speaking, it's our duty to speak up for people who are "not as privileged" -- people of colour, of a different nationality, of a different sexuality, etc. A friend of mine in Southern California puts it this way: "Are you going to use your privilege for good, or for awesome?" And it remains that if someone harasses other because of any of those reasons (colour, nationality, sexuality), you should stand up for them.
You did good, Lubo and TartanTim -- I don't think that can be emphasized enough -- and it goes without saying that this includes standing up for those who are victims of sectarianism as well.
I'll get off the soapbox now . . . .
I think its important to see the best in people always, but also be fully aware it may be a bad mistake.
Privilege trifecta
Never heard that expression before but I would agree there is a strange bias towards those domains
Ive never heard that its only left politically that stick up for these people though.
In fact historically I would suggest there is a great deal of evidence to suggest that its centre who look after these peoples rights more than a certain degree past an unknown both on left and right.
There are plenty of muslims in Glasgow who support Rangers
In fact any muslim men I know personally seem to lean more towards right politics and Rangers and are UK together voters.
Anyway
point I'm trying to make is that good people are on the right side of the divide in political matters
And some very evil people exist on the left side of politics
In fact both sides genuinely think they are on the side of good.
I would stand up for anyone being bullied (at least I hope and think I would) but I dont trust right wing or left wing politics
Virtue is what I try to understand
And standing up to evil is important
Standing up to lies is important
Helping others is important (sometimes helping your enemy is most important)
But its very difficult to spot vice sometimes
It masquerades as a hero in troubled times.
I give you the Sevco heros
Sometimes helping your enemy may be the right thing to do
But given half a chance they may not return the favour
I find the culture of London to be very toxic
The divided communities and cultures and the biases in the system make it a very unhealthy place.
But I would say that most of the toxic people are from both ends of the spectrum
Its a very animalistic egoistic city
When ever I go for a holiday
I love glasgow so much more even full of Rangers men
It may come as a surprise to some people to think that Rangers fans might also be left leaning
They may not trust SNP through the propaganda they get fed
But they have always been into labour unions
in fact I would suggest the closed shop pro white male theme has a huge support in left politics, in history anyway
I have no problem with gay rights
Again I dont think its a left only thing
Plenty of conservative heterosexuals/homosexuals fighting for gay rights
Worth noting extreme left and extreme right both restrict that minority
Also worth noting the narcissistic element is prevalent in the whole of cultures across planet
The left also claim to champion the murder of innocent unborns, mostly for woman who cant really be arsed having a child.
Some instances have justifiable human traumatic reasons for termination
But I would think the vast majority of abortions are cosmetic rather than traumatic
Controversial I know
But if the left champion the rights of women
What about the unborn children rights?
Now I am left leaning but I try to cling to the centre with my whole being, because the left is potentially more vicious if its given half a chance.
I detest nazi ideology
But I also detest the principles of islam
I would try and support either of these individuals who support these ideologies if they were being abused in their selection
knowing full well if the roles were reversed I may not get any help when im condemned to be executed for being catholic in their domain
But thats part of being christian
There are some good people who are muslim
there must be some good people who are extreme right wing (they have just got their thinking all mixed up)
My question to Larry is extreme islam
is it closer to the right or the left?
I would suggest its closer to the left but its the extreme part thats bad
All are capable of virtue
Some chose vice
And a lot of the stuff on the left is vice, because it's extreme.
you get caught in a vice it will be very painful and very difficult to remove
And imo despite leaning towards left and hating extreme right
I fear the extreme left much more than the right.
