Some emotional midgets on here as far as Robbie Keane is concerned. Do any of us have control of who becomes our new manager ? NO. Do we get our knickers in a bunch because of it...well, for me...again...NO. but some do. We do our best to be the best person we can. If he's the manager, I will back him, and the team. Does my crust in with all the 'holier than thou bullshit' Buy what you want, shop where you want, without fear of anyone slagging or berating you...it's nobody's business but your own. It's fitba, so watch it, and enjoy...but stop with the over the top wringing of hands bullshit. Have a pleasant week...or don't...couldn't give a MUNKYS. HH
Robbie Keane is a football manager, probably a family man and like me probably never fully grasped what was going in Palestine. In June 2023 when he was appointed, we all knew that Israel were being absolute cunts to the Palestinians but we got on with our own lives as he probable did on his football journey. He left on 7th June 2024. To me its more likely he excercised some terrible judgment staying the full year, but then maybe he was contractually obliged.
The facts are the government of Israel has committed/are currently committing a genocide in Gaza. Its up to people to pressure governments, the people that can do something about it, not victimse a football manager who happened to manage in Israel for a year.
Palestine has long been a cause for the GB and that makes me proud, against an establishment that has tried to prevent them from doing so. But it seems that once they get a cause, anyone who does anything they disagree with, the position is fixed.
Can you imagine the furore if a player or manager from Engerlund refused to play/manage Celtic because their fans sing IRA songs or held up banners on October 7th 2023.
Some of the GB are absolute fucking tossers and we've all seen their behaviour with our own eyes or on videos so dishing out morality reminds me of stones in glass houses.
The banner incident on 7th October 2023 is a massive stain they'll carry in my eyes, but i give them the benefit of the doubt in that the game was at 12.30 on the day it came out and the details were scare on the level of these horrific attacks. That doesn't make it excusable, but rational people know it was crass and done in haste. We've never seen a banners of that like again, thankfully. They got the benefit of the doubt and people moved on. They should too.
I know several contractors that worked in Israel for the goverment on construction contracts at the time of the original attacks. Lifelong Celtic fans too. Should i write to their prospective employers informing them of this ? Should i inform the GB of their addresses so they can put banners outside their houses ?
He should be judged on football management.
I'll nail my colours to the wall, its MON all day long, the players in that dressing room voted with performances. Yes its not forward thinking, but with the people in charge currently, i'd take another year with some form of unity between the fans and the football department.
