Players and Management need to step up now

William Hills confirmed to it's employees 80% and 20% one of my family works for them and they are in isolation. Situation will be reviewed again in May.
its correct if the company actually has that 20 %.. No work for us coming in = no 20 %

yeh u lost the plot there.

My argument is not now bad the virus is - is the fact that we are paying players for not working vast amounts of cash that doesnt exist
Unless you can find a contract that states if a player does not complete 38 domestic game and cup ties etc themn the money has to exist and thats the legal loop, the Government is compelled to conform to employment contract law, unless it uses special powers so this argument is dead in the water until the gov acts and brings in special powers neither Celtic nor Players can break their contract unless mutual agreement and this would release players and if Celtic pay their players from their kitty the players must declare this as taxable both Celtic and the player would be taxable on the same source NIC and Income tax.

Dead Wrong

you have to look at this closely - and I have no idea what individuals earn at CP.

1. First of all the government furlough scheme pays 80% of your salary - their is no part of the scheme that says the company pays the remaining 20%. In my world this is a NO. My colleagues have been sent home with 80% salary - end of.

2. The max monthly payment from government is 2500 per month. So 30 K per year minus the tax and NI payments ( yes these havent been suspended). the majority of my collegues are on a lot less

so lets contrast between 1 and 2 above to say the top earner at Celtic on 40K per week who is definatlely on a legal scheme to reduce tax and clears 32K per week after accountants fees.

Hardly fair
So now you cite "the facts", but you're op is still referring to unknown quantities.

You nor I know the mechanics behind the scenes, but when, and if, football resumes, then it would be in the clubs best interest to know that the staff are going to be fully cooperative......Yes?

How many of the footsoldiers are going to be earning in excess of £2,500 p/m?

But you're missing the point that you yourself are victim to by your own admission:

Everyone is in duress at the moment. Not just the staff at Celtic Park. It might not be fair, but it's an absolute fact. The priority is to ensure that these lads and lassies still have a job to go to in future. If it means a hit, then it means a hit.

Who's going to be rushing to bail you or I out?

Nah, the plot's solid, mate.

You cited two clubs who have revenue streams that are barely linked to football. The money that these players accrue through salary is a pittance compared to what they amass through endorsements and sponsorship.

Ronaldo and Messi take their big hit, then write it off against the tax liabilities in Spain and Italy.

It barely impacts them in any tangible way.

Even in a worst case scenario, Barca wipe out their potential losses with the sale of two players from a grossly inflated squad. That's not a viable route for a club of Celtic's limited means.

The point I made was relatively simple, don't judge the players until their stance is made public.

Is it that too difficult to quantify?

Bottom line is, is that the players aren't daft. Most of them will be aware how history is going to judge them. They've shown their mettle in the past, so I'm sure they'll show it again in the present.

They know full well what, and who, it is they represent, I don't believe they'll be oblivious to what is going on around them.

I think the right thing to do is our first team players, management team and directors waive their salary for as long as this goes on, let's be honest none of them will end up on the street. Putting the club and our community first should be the priority.
Heard on the news tonight that Spurs were putting all of their background staff on the government 80% deal, which is fair enough, but still paying their players on average £70k a week! That's a fucking nonsense!
I'm not a card carrying socialist, some of you may have noticed! But when there is an opportunity to do the right thing I think we should take it, ensuring our ground staff, cleaners, ticket collectors etc etc get a living wage through this crisis is far more important than paying our top players 20 grand a week.
And to be honest if any of our players aren't happy to sacrifice a little for the good of the club just now they can fuck off, they don't deserve to wear the shirt.

The furlough payment to guarantee staff wages when they are sitting at home for the next few months is the correct thing to do. It gives them reassurance and they can stay at home and keep safe.
What now needs done, quickly, is an announcement on what the directors, players and coaching staff are doing for the same period. Ideally this should all have been announced at the same time but as long as it’s done, soon, then it’s the correct thing to do. I think Lenny has already said that player wages will be looked at this month and cuts likely.
The money the club has banked will be required to soften the blow for the next 12, 18, 24, who knows how many months, as the consequences of these unprecedented times will be felt for years to come.

Economic forecasting, bank loan secure your players , cash in hand to secure the title and sustain the loan with future incomings assetts untouched and history intact. Resources equals credit line.

Much has been made of the £60M per annum wage bill. That's all of them from the top earners down to the young pros just making their way in the game.
They could all become heroes overnight if they collectively agreed that anybody earning over £2,000 per week (£100, 000 per annum) should take a wage of only £2,000 per week and 50% of anything beyond £2,000 is deferred until Jan 2021. The other 50% is payable now to the Celtic trust to be used to alleviate hardship in communities the length and breadth of the country.

The top earners would take the biggest hit but would be protecting the long term future of the only club in Scotland who can offer them their current lifestyle. The lads at the other end of the pay scales would be largely unaffected. The deferred player's wages would help the non playing, lower earners be kept on, while the contribution to the Celtic trust would, literally save as well as improve lives everywhere. It would be worth every penny just to see how the Daily Radar could put a negative spin on the story.
