Scottish Independence

I think there's a real cross section of the Celtic Support on this forum...so

If there was another referendum on independence would you vote to stay or to go.....and why would you vote that way.

As an addendum to this topic...do you trust the SNP to act in your best interests?......or if voting yes.....it's a matter of independence first then we'll sort out which party should get the nod after independence has been won.

I dont trust politicians period.

Would i like to be voting in Scotalnd only? yes
Would we be better off? Havent a clue.
Would i vote to be away from westminister even if it meant being worse off? Yes i would.

Do i think Scottish politicians would be better than UK? No
But i would rather live in a country with a government that cared about Scotland and its best interests.

Do i think the powers that hide behind the scenes allow it to happen?

No. They like the system and they have the power and even if democracy called for independence. They would turn it into civil war just like they did in Irelaqnd when they ahd 75 percent majority democratic vote to break form UK.

UK aint giving away its oil revenues or its miliatry bases or its dumping testing ground.

They have the power to wreak havoc and splinter the country into east west while giving independence to the parts they dont want and keeping tight military grip on every resource they see as theirs.

Did you know that 3/4 of Scottish oil is already in English waters. The water maps were redrawn.

You really think they will be giving up their 90 percent share of oil revenue?

The orange order would demand protection from UK and well they already are mostly the miliatary and the oild regions and the best land regions.

Would i like Independence. Yes

Will i ever get the unified scotish independence I would like? No I really think it would mean civil war.

I voted for it last time and it failed.

But my worst nightmare would be that it would become like palestine/israel with miliary style segregation of pro UK Scots and Pro indy scots with the pro UK Scots with machine guns and the indy scots with no assets to mention and trapped in civil war

To me, the major point of independence is the opportunity to begin reconstruction of the political landscape.

I would hope that there will be greater diversity in the current party system and that minority groups would have more influence than is currently available.

Tactical voting means that the major parties still receive a disproportionate majority of the votes cast, the counter-argument being that there would inevitably be a rise in the voting blocs of more extreme right-wing groups due to the blind ignorance of the horde.

The major parties still appear to act only in their own interests, including the SNP, under the advent of an independent government - each party are going to have to re-invent their political manifesto to incorporate traditional Scottish working-persons values and the maintenance of protected characteristics.

The reality is that there is no easy fix. It will be many decades of hardship before independence bears any real fruit. It is naive to believe that Scotland can adopt the Scandinavian models as they have been in existence for three centuries and have self-sustaining industries and economies that do not entirely depend on external investment.

There will be hard lessons to learn, as it is unlikely that the USA and Norway will forfeit their financial investment in the oil fields; however - Scotland is ideally suited to developing new sustainable and clean forms of energy in hydro, solar and wind farms.

It has to be worth any hardship not to be subservient to the yoke of England. I don't mind the English population, I've generally found them to be quite agreeable for the most part, I just object to the condescending manner that their government and their media have instilled in their general population.

I don't expect everyone to agree with my assessment and I'm glad about that. I don't expect folk to just accept anyone else's point of view, I believe that the theory of independence should extend to thought, as well as to political choice.

I'm going to vote for the Scottish Catholic Progressive Socialist and Anti-Orange Bigot Party.

I'm nominating Michael Duffy as leader of the Party with his trusted consort, Stella, as the Party's party-time secretary

If it's ok with you SP, I would like to nominate the bold Maestro for Ministry of Defence.
PS, I've left you a wee question SP on the 'tell me something funny' thread

You've really given this some thought my good friend.

Us Catholics at the coal face have at times been at odds with them Catholics running things.

I think we need to find some common ground methinks

Hahaha Minister for Defence and Skelping Huns. I think Maria might be in for a shout for that post too.

BILLCOWIE1958 as Minister for Anecdotes and TET as Minister of Spiritual Affairs.

Andybhoy as Minister of Common Sense and take your pick of anyone for Minister of Starting a Fight in an Empty Room.

Just don't elect Peter Lawwell as Minister for Finance. We'll be financially prudent, but we'll all starve in the meantime.

With a cabinet like that enjoy it while you can because first order of business every Mon morning will be the vote of no confidence.

On a serious note, to answer the question of Imatim on his opening post, I would vote to leave and wouldn't really care too much about what followed, to get away from Westminster would be all that mattered to me, war plc is what this country has become, we'll sort ourselves out over time, although it will probably take a generation to do it.

Hello fellow Celtic fans. This is my 1st post. The head teacher at my primary school was a nun called Madam Benignus. I have never seen that name since until I started reading here. Whimsical observation. Anyhow, on the matter of Scottish Independence, I fully share Jobo Balde's view that we get independence, then decide for ourselves re economy, energy, defence etc. I am under no illusions that the Tory establishment will try to sabotage every move, including playing the Orange card. In the long run though, I am confident that most ordinary Scots are decent folk and will reject the Unionists' bigotry and Imperialism.

How about we choose ministerial appointments for the newly elected Scottish Democratic Party.

Nominations are now open for the new Scottish ministry....feel free to also add a Ministry...over you my friends....

My nomination(s) and ministries are...to begin with
