BC bracing for our third 'weather event'
I know that the UK is being hammered by bad weather and storms and we hope that everyone manages to stay safe as this unfolds
But give some thought to the people of Merritt, Abbotsford and other areas in BC, such as the Sumas Prairie which have been devastated by the recent floods brought on by the massive storms and the breaching of the river banks and levees
The people of the Fraser Valley who had been allowed back into their neighbourhoods, to salvage what they can, and get the water out of their homes, have been hit again, new flooding in their areas
Plus, this new storm which is about to arrive tomorrow, is packing high winds and some areas, are expecting to get 8-10 inches of rain
The last storm destroyed many parts of major Provincial highways as you have seen on the clips I've been posting, but Highway 8, which I travelled last Summer, has been totally destroyed and will have to be rebuilt
The Coquihalla Highway has had 20 sections damaged for a total of 120 kms, so it's going to take many months to have it functional again, it's a major route for truckers and they are having to drive through the US and back up into Canada, in order to deliver their consumer goods
The grocery stores are running low on foodstuffs as the trucks are held up due to the floods and destruction and fuel is limited to 30 litres per vehicle for non commercial vehicles
We're lucky as it's a long way from us, but we feel for all those affected directly
Apparently the 'plume' of this next storm stretched from the Philippines, all the way to our west coast, packing lots of moisture
This is heartbreaking to watch on a daily basis
These people have worked hard all their lives and are in danger of losing everything
There are many like them
God Bless them and the emergency personnel, and volunteers
