The Political Thread

All this fekn forum needs is another tool to divide people. Well done 👏👏👏

There is no intent on my part to divide Stevie.

I stayed away from the thread on the Queen because I have no truck with those who support and prop up the class system. I simply didn't involve myself because I chose not to

The Queen has departed this earth and may she rest in peace, but the issues surrounding censorship, privilege and entitlement live on.

Freedom of speech appears to be openly under threat. It's abhorrent in my view for anyone to be arrested for peacefully protesting and expressing their views.

People should not have to live in fear of being arrested for publicly and peacefully expressing their views, and it appears this is where we are presently at.

My intent was to respectfully engage with folk on their views and opinions on where things are at presently, and what their thoughts and views are on how things may potentially develop.

Along the way I was hoping for meaningful discourse and for folk to post any pertinent information they wanted to share to enhance the topic, and perhaps also to make folk aware of what the feck is going down.

I'm well aware this is a Celtic Forum, but to sanitise or restrict general discussion on current major contentious issues at play is wrong in my view. Especially issues that have far reaching implications and consequences.

That's my brief take on why I posted this topic Stevie. I'm not looking to fall out with anyone over it. The topic might not be everyone's cup of tea and that's perfectly fine, but there's a simple choice to make whether to engage, or not.

That's a good question and questions like this, and the answers, are one of the reasons I posted this thread...
Can only think it's a nod to the union, mainly Scotland's contribution to it, as many of the English dont even see it as a union and are oblivious to the fact it was a Scottish king who declared a union 9f kingdoms and sat on the first United kingdom throne.
To them GB is England and England is GB.
In far too many people's minds, both sides of the border there seems to be this notion that the union has been around for eternity.

400 years or so isnt that long ago historically.
I mean it's a long time viewed from an individual lifetimes perspective but when you calculate it up and say, for arguments sake,
3 generations in a century should each generation live to their 40s roughly.
Well that only works out to 12 generations or so ago roughly guestimated.
My great granda's (3 gen right there), great granda's ( another 3) , great granda's ( 3 more), great granda ( another 3) would likely have never seen the union.
That sequence would be closer to 500 years going at 40 years a generation.

Very crude calculation yes but,
the point can still be made in a far more articulate manner than I just used.

The idea of it then would be seen as treasonous and the person who said it hung drawn and quartered as was the order of the day back then.
Head on a spike in Edinburgh, legs in Glasgow and Stirling etc to show the peasants that such free thinking would not be tolerated.

When you put the time scale down like that daft , clumsy but relatively simple way , it's easier to gauge the time span of the union.

Or in the example of Queens' family,
the ( pretendy ) Windsor family name.
They all live to near 100 years old anyway.
The Queen Mother lived long,so did Victoria and so for her family it could be more something like her great, great grandfather who we're all being told was James VI of Scotland, James 1st of England and the UK.

This is a point that the SNP failed to drive home to voters in the referendum.
Had they challenged the so called idea of the ' status quo ' they'd have shown it not to be a long one, not even in human being time scale.

Now the Queen is dead you will no longer receive a telegram from her when you turn 100year old. Instead you will receive a txt from Prince Andrew when you turn 14.

The Mrs was telling me that Centre Parcs, the holiday firm, has told guests to leave on Monday. They are closing all their Parcs on Monday for the state funeral.
They want people to pack up and leave and book somewhere else for Monday at their own expense. They can come back the next day though.

Careful Scotcel some passers by in the street might drag you to the ground for telling the truth, and have ye hung drawn and quartered for saying that.

Time may have passed on by, but attitudes havent , hence the 400 hundered year old costumes we've been seeing and will see for what will feel like 400 years.

King Chick wont even be coronated until next year!
Probably the only time Prince Will.i.am has genuinely been praying for his papa's good health.

He'll be thinking 'please papa!
If you're gonny go , dont dae it in Scotland, they still think theres unicorns running aboot'

Fs , all the hassle that will cause.
All they had to do was let people stay but tell them everythings closed for the day.
Something similar to lockdown.
I'm not convinced a lot of the ' emerging' details and plans were anything to do with the Queens post wishes.

Many small and large businesses have taken big hits through the lockdown and are still recovering, so I know a great idea!
Let's close the biggest spectator sport in the land and deprive all the wee shops from the money that comes with a game of fitba.

They just changed it. People can stay now.
British Cycling told people not to use bikes at all on Monday. They changed that advice now though.
Preston banned a fan for anti-royal tweets. Cancelled his ST. Told him they will write to every club Preston will play away and advise them to ban him too.
Because he included the club crest in his tweets.

They have backed down from that now I believe.

Stupid people.

I wonder who is really calling the shots here?…..it looks like any form of protest against the monarchy will be shut down…..stay tuned…

Always thought General chat was meant for what’s it called General topics maybe WC should just change everything to Celtic chat only nothing else just Celtic
We revered MD I certainly did and still do
But the music threads were one of his joys and he loved the Pets forums
So do we stop them.
Remember this Football club was formed by Brother Walfrid to feed the Poor if that’s not a political situation then please tell me what is or isn’t. If you don’t like a thread don’t join in. It’s a simple as a Hun with a firework

HH 🤔

Never mind Glasgow, there are a few families I know from up past Aberdeen that go to Center Parcs (at least it isn't school holidays). Bunch of clowns who do not give a shit about their customers.

Just like TUI - several times every week for the last 3 months there are TUI holiday flights to and from Aberdeen cancelled at the last minute with families actually at the check-in desks. They do not communicate properly with the stranded passengers and often bus them to Glasgow the next day to get start their holidays late (if they don't just cancel them). I know someone that was flying back to Aberdeen earlier in the month whose flight got diverted when they were in the air and they landed at Midlands airport and then were finally bussed up from Birmingham to Aberdeen and told they should fell lucky and happy that they managed to get them home!

Fuckin shocking

Fuckin shocking
I know, the first time it happened was the first week of the school summer holidays. Families with young hyper-excited youngsters finally getting their first holiday in over two years were standing in the check-in queue when suddenly everyone's phones start pinging with an alert from TUI telling them their holidays were cancelled with no further information. And they wondered why people got pissed off and took their frustrations out on the poor desk staff who knew as much as the angry non-holidaymakers! Police were called to escort pissed off people from the airport. It is disgusting and I seriously doubt whether many people will book with TUI up here as this is happening multiple times a week.
