With the silly season due to begin please use this thread as a place to house any transfer links you see or hear so we can analyse and discuss them...
Chinese back in for Morelos 30m.-- The Daily Coke Snorter.
Been on the Dark Side. Apparently the majority of those polled said he should not be sold for >20 million. I know we use the word delusional a lot, but ffs. Seriously delusional.

I think Brendan is what's up with Griff. How do you improve a guy who gives you 40 goals a season? Drop him for Dembele... then drop him for Eddie.... Drop him when he's scoring goals, Drop him when he's not. Can't get fit cos he can't get game time. Can't get his eye in....Griff has not had a chance to get into his stride cos Brendan wants to change him and either Griff is unwilling or unable to make the changes. Personally I did not think there was too much wrong with him (as a footballer) before Brendan arrived. Just me?
Apparently scoring 40 goals a season in not enough.
Dembele is a far better all round player than Griffiths, and Edouard has the potential to be.

To say that Brendan is the problem is bizarre.

Leigh Griffiths, like everyone else, has to buy into what the new manager(any new manager) wants, that’s what he’s paid for.

You only have to look at him to see he isn’t fit enough - especially when Rodgers wants to press from the front.

We all know he’s a cracking finisher, it’s about the whole team though.

Kris Boyd has scored double the amount of SPL goals - what does that mean though?

If we want to keep progressing, especially in Europe we need a new striker.

A Sutton type would be ideal for guys like Forrest, Christie, Rogic etc to play off.

I respect you’re opinion mate, but I definitely don’t agree with it.

It’s Griffiths’ responsibility to keep getting better, training harder.

It’s been made clear that he doesn’t live his life like a Kieran Tierney.

Brendan Rodgers is super diplomatic, but he’s hinted plenty of times what the issue is, - God he’s had calf problems for 2 years. That’s not normal and it’s been made clear that it’s because he’s not training properly over a long enough period to build up a core fitness.

Sorry Ronin but I don't agree with most of what you have said. In the real world Dembele IS a better all round player but is nowhere near the natural finisher we know Griffiths to be.

Tell me how YOU would get fit if you could not get a game consistently. Constantly being passed over for the cash cow that Dembele was always going to be. Even at that time Rodgers only wanted one striker so Griff was always going to warm the bench unless Dembele got injured. You allude to Griffiths' fitness levels. Surely Dembele looked less fit than Hartson during his last 18 months with us. Stronger but definitely not fitter than Griffiths despite the lack of game time.

If it is all about 'the team' you have to pay service to the fact that Griffiths carried the team the year before yet you suggest that within six months he is no longer a 'team player', All assumption because he was not playing due to one striker rule. Check out the stats for minutes played and goals scored during Brendans tenure.

You point about Griffiths not living like KT again is cherry picking. Think about photos of Broonie drunk sitting on the side of the road eating fish and chips if I remember correctly after midnight. Lots more too.... GMS falling over a bridge after a drunken night out.

Whilst I too agree with your opinion I prefer try to be factual. By the way your reference to calf problems remind me of James Forrest who was for years plagued with unfixable hamsting problems. Anyway I apologise for my rant. It is just obvious to me that Brendan wants to make Griff into something he is not but you will never convince me that given game time and support from BR he would not again be a 25 goals a season player in this team.

Not complaining about the team or BR, just offering my opinion that Griff's current malaise is not of his own making in my opinion

I really don’t get this - how is Griffiths supposed to get fit when he isn’t getting a run in the team.

I’m not even talking about match fitness, just the basic fitness an athlete should have.

He said the had to lose 8lbs - a lot of managers wouldn’t even have allowed him near the squad.

We all know about Hartson - the game has moved on though - you don’t get 2 months summer break anymore, we’ve got sports science, better diets, etc etc.

I do agree that Dembele also looked a bit heavy sometimes/could be lazy, - Griffiths has been like this his whole career. Look at old pictures of him.

I want Celtic to be the best they can be, and I’ll criticise any player if it’s merited.

It’s not just about how many goals has he scored, I’m looking at goals v European teams, goals v the other mob. His overall game. His penalty record is awful as well, but he always demands the ball.

It’s the whole package for me with Griffiths - I’ve heard enough, from various different people, at various different times to know that he doesn’t put everything he has into being a Celtic player.

If it was a one-off, or a even a spell in his career, fine, but it’s like a soap opera with him - constant drama.

The reason I referenced Kieran Tierney was because he appreciates everything he has, he doesn’t take it for granted. He’s going to have a brilliant career because he doesn’t take shortcuts. Not just that, but it’s the respect he shows everyone connected to the club.

Ronin, I don't listen to gossip unless it is transfer season. I know it is all rubbish but I like it for the fun of it or so I can moan about the likes of that big lump McKenna. Neither of us knows the truth of the matter so we will have to agree to disagree. I am only interested in the quality of the football on display as I am sure you are. We both know what Griffiths can bring. If you step back in time, some of the best footballers on the planet ran to the beat of their own drum. Think Best for example. BR would have wanted to change him too instead of accepting what he could bring.
Don't agree with you on the point that it is not about goals. What on earth is a striker?

God if you think Brendan is strict - check out guys like Guardiola, and his rules on weight and fitness - Griffiths wouldn’t be allowed in the building.

It’s all about standards. We can’t spend fortunes on players - so in Brendan’s words - we have to try and be world class in everything else we do.

Of course it’s about goals, - Kris Boyd used to score 5 against St Mirren, and 5 against Falkirk, - but he never scored against us.

I’m looking at the bigger picture with Leigh Griffiths, - do we get the best out of guys like Rogic and Forrest when he’s playing, not for me, and definitely not in Europe.

Anyway it’s all good mate - I respect your thoughts. Enjoy your weekend.

Glad we can agree to disagree. You enjoy the weekend too and lets hope we get a good result tomorrow. Cheers mate

I'm sure many of you have heard this rumour about us scouting Lawrence Shankland. Wouldn't surprise me if we were watching him, but what do people think about a move for him? Personally, I don't see it. He's banging in goals in the Championship, but I'm not sure he'd be anywhere close to the kind of player Celtic need as we look to evolve and progress on the elite European level. He's also wan o them, as I'm sure you all know. Anyway, what do people think? Yay or nay?

We need someone up top who is comfortable playing in and around the box and who likes getting on the end of things.

Eddy and Griff run the channels but aren't always in the right areas to be where they should be for those 3-4 yard 'hit aff the back o' yer arse' goals.

We really need an out-and-out finisher and preferably someone who can header a ball. I haven't seen enough of Shankland to make any kind of judgement, but I didn't think LG was Celtic class and he surpassed my expectations.

I don't know the markets, Sam, but some of the prices being quoted for 'reasonable' players are a bit too rich for my taste. At 4-5 hundred grand the boy might be worth a punt and he can't be any more of a travesty than Colin Kazim-Richards.

We’ve had many protestants playing for us over the decades. Most of whom have been great footballers. As long as he ain’t a marching bigot then shouldn’t matter.

Celtic will always go for the price is right
Oh no. I didn't mean he's a protestant. I'm no bigot. Of course some of our greatest figures have been protestant. I meant he's a vocal Sevco fan. Don't care about his religion or background.

Very good point about Griffiths. I think Griffiths had proved his ability at a higher level than Shankland though. I'd love us to sign a big CF who is great at holding it up and nabs a good few goals too. A Sutton or Hartson type. Could be deadly with Edouard and our attacking midfielders playing off him.

I am always less than enthusiastic about someone with a second name for a christian name. There are always exceptions to any rule , as we of the green and white persuasion know only too well. Old prejudices often die hard and, like most here I await the day when this despicable practice is ended. I remember another Lawrence..,.Marlborough. Wonder if they are BOTH called after John Lawrence.
