transfer window

Poor Mrs Mag 7, holiday to Tenerife on the horizon and they fuckers selt wee Kyogo
I'm replying to you, but its not directed at you, i just wanted to put that wee dig in above..
Have a great holiday my friend.

Now that i've nearly got a million tax returns done, i can safely enjoy a read and a few moments to impart my thoughts in more detail.

I've been a very vocal critic of this lot running our club over my time on here, but it's always been a lack of ambition. I've been their biggest critic on here, but to their credit, i see a shift in the sands and while i'll never be on my soapbox giving them praise, i see a huge shift in their outlook.

It started with the reappointment of the Rodge, i was fucking sick to my stomach. I wouldn't have let him through the door, but these guys take decisions without the emotion. I can't remember where, but i read the other day about football being about mercenaries and the quote was, ' players and managers are all merecenaries in one way shape or form, so you might as well have the best mercenary your money can buy'. It may have been that bellend forrest, but i'll give credit where its due.

Season 1 was a struggle and the manager (i still struggle to name him) to his credit really dragged us over the line. When it looked like going tits up, he was the calmest and to his credit, he showed his class as a manager. I remember a couple of interviews he did where he fought back and in truth he schooled journalists and to be honest us supporters that were flapping. 'I know what we have here and when shit hits the fan, they'll show they have the character to win, do others'.

We bought a load of shite in the summer he re-joined and he made it clear over time, they were a load of shite. Don't doubt he got rid of JNR and his sidekick. Buck was calling the shots in the football dept. and he was strong enough to win, despite it being the son of Sam.

He really made one decision on transfers last season and that was Idah.
Idah may look like Tyson Fury attempting to play football this season, but his goals last year won us a double that was for a long time in doubt. Not single handeBuckdly, but if you look at his contribution and what would have came to pass had he not been there.....

This summer, Buck got them to break our transfer record twice in a few weeks. The guys a clever operator, he knew we needed to spend big to progress and they showed a faith in him that is probably warranted. The facts are simple, if they backed him and it went tits up, they would have been burned badly. But they believe in this guys abilities and for the first time since M'ON, they're giving him the tools he's asking for.

I've said recently, Matt who ? He ain't been missed.
Reading the lads recent comments reminded me of something.
He couldn't get a regular game under Ange. Thats not a criticism of the big man, but the facts are simple, BR turned that lad into the 30 million player. He identified the talent, played him where he would excel and the bhoy flourished. BR made that bhoy the 30 million player, a fact.
This season, we've seen a continuation of the same theme.

He signed Idah, club record signing (for a few weeks), but is not put off by the fee HE paid, Kyogo was better....end of. The signing of the summer for me has been McCowan, knowing the lad aside, has often looked a better fit than Bernardo and Engels, like most supporters who are thinking the same as me, he knows that Engels and Bernardo int he long term will be better.
Even signing McCowan showed me that he knows its not always got to be mega-bucks all the time, there's a time and a place for a million pound player as opposed to the mega-bucks. I'm not ignorant of the fact the same day he signed and 11 million CM, he also bought a local lad for a fraction of the price. Celtic fans have at times been asking for McCowan over Engels, which shows you that the value we got in McCowan was very shrewd. If you can sign a player for 10% of Engels value who is going to push him to the max, its a no-brainer.

I've went a long way to get to this, but i can see why many question the sale of Kyogo, Villa game and all. For me, as soon as any player asks to leave, then its just about getting the best deal you can for the Club. Lets not forget, despite the wee smile and the love he's showed, Kyogo's a wee laddie from a different part of the world that has no real affinity with us. Sure he's got that smile and says all the right things, but like Maeda/Hatate, they'll be off at the first opportunity that suits them.

I think of the pelters KT got when he left, because he was one of us. He was sold by us, that bhoy never wanted to leave. He has stated that he was watching his pals playing football and the Club called him and said we've booked your flight........ That lad would have left with a heavy heart, like Jota, but when your ebing sold and the money on offer is life changing, it happens........ Kyogo asked to leave and lets be honest what the fuck is this move all about, he must be desperate to leave if he's going there. For me the only disappointment is not in the club, but the fact that our wee talisman is going to some fucking shitehole in a move that baffles me. Leaving Celtic for that........ titles, adulation, Champions League, for a lame duck, perhaps the wee smile was a put on.

As far as timing goes, sometimes these things are not ideal, but thats just the way it is.
10-12 million for a 30 something that wanted to leave, who was bought for 5, is good business.
I know people don't want to hear good business ahead of Villa, but for me, its just another game. I'll be gutted if we get fucked aye, but i accept the timing. The guy we're heartbroken to lose wanted out. When i think of what he had here, i am like many fucking bemused that he is willing to bin us for money. But maybe the smiling assassin is no different to many smiling mercenarys who walked through the door at Paradise.

No matter what, i'm only interested in who wants to be here, no matter the game in 2 days or 2 weeks. When you have a window where you sign the quality of KT and Jota, my comfort is not in them signing, its the statement of intent our club is showing.

KT is 27 years-old and has his prime to come. It's a ridiculous piece of business. I'll make a prediction here and now. I can see him getting fit and playing a fucking blinding season next year, a genuine buzz from once again getting to wear the only jersey he ever craved, and holding that megaphone. We'll watch him thrive and they'll sell him for 25-30 million again, he's simply that good a player that there will always be interest providing he's fit and the right side of 30. the only thing that matters is does he improve the team. If fit, a back line of Kasper, AJ, CCV, Trusty, Tierney anyone ????

As for Jota, that lad was a fucking hun-skelper. Here we have another player, thrived at the club, loved the club and we sold him. Had a few years away, earned a fucking fortune but while he earned, there was no joy. This bhoy will be fucking champing at the bit. Again, does he improve the team ? there's not a Celtic fan that doesn't love Maeda, but FFS, there's no doubt he's an upgrade with the ball at his feet.

My outlook is very positive right now. I've known for a long time that we're decent but no more.
A country fucking mile ahead of the huns, the remainder of this season is prep for next season.
A CL record that reads 7 played and only 1 defeat.
Automatic qualification a game early.
We've been very lucky with the draw, but deep down i know were miles away from where we're likely to be in a years time. I see a club progressing, a manager in charge that is as good as we can get and a fucking plan.

So while i'll miss Kyogo, i'ts not Murdo leaving us for Dortumund or Henrik.
Whatever happens against Villa, either way, i'll hurt or celebrate like the rest of you guys.
But whatever happens, for the first time in many moons, i feel like my club is finally moving in a direction that aligns with what many of us have long craved.

So for me, despite my craving to beat any fucking English team we face, its just one game on a pathway.

PS I was on the phone to my pal last week when Dessers scored for the huns, i let out a noise which he questioned. I think i almost hate the English snobs more than the huns i opined. 2 minutes later, i was screaming when Fernandes scored, my mate opined, this is one of those games where you don't know who you hate more......
Nah, which goal did i cheer the loudest ?

Nite folks
I've never been one to slaughter a player for leaving for more money as its his job and it can end with one bad tackle.I remember KT saying the abuse he took from so called Celtic supporters was off the scale and he was scared to come back up to watch his team .I found it shocking that a player who played through injury and rushed back to a stadium with a broken jaw was treated that way .Kid on Celtic fans in my opinion!

Big Matt is missed and would have went for big money whether Rodgers was here or not.I think his relationship with Rodgers was better and he did say Brendan was much warmer than Ange ..I still prefer big Ange .

Engels and Bernardo have been hit n miss so far and are both miles off what O'riley gave Celtic imo.

Idah done well during his loan but its the here and now that matters.I hope he starts banging in the goals but i'm not convinced ..

I've woken up this morning after the Villa game with a bitter taste in my mouth... and for once it's not the Guinness (that's just given me a fuzzy head!).

How much better could we have done with Valle, Maieda, Kyogo either starting or on the bench? Or maybe with better players than Yang and Palma?

Okay Daizen made his own bed (despite being clearly provoked, and not protected by the MiB!), but we knew what was happening with Kyogo since the start of the season, and we knew we needed to sort a LB THIS window, so they had time to bed in before the very early UCL games in the summer. Instead we had one that was never ours, and was never going to stay, leave when we weren't expecting it, and be left with one who's ummming and aaaahing on the new contract! And the one we've signed for next season not able to join us!

But as usual, the powers that be have been passive rather than planning far ahead, and we are still paying for the terrible windows of Nepo Boy! We're now on the back foot with sellers knowing we have a thinner squad and probably need to do some business, plus £70m in the bank, which puts us at a distinct negotiating disadvantage.

I thought Tisdale was brought in to make this better, but I'm still feeling that the Fat Man at the Top/Nepo Dad is pulling all the strings. And I'm genuinely not a fan of his, despite all the domestic success we have.

To me, this is yet another fecked up transfer window, where careful aforethought could have avoided these issues.

I'm cross!

...and Mrs YB is already on the wind up and it's not even 9am! 🤬

Other than Daizen none of those you mentioned would have made a difference last night. Idah scored 2 goals, would Kyogo have? Taylor had a decent game for him in Europe, and his overlap and cross led to the first goal. CCV and Daizen were the big misses, transfers had nothing to do with it.
As someone who normally questions how we deal with transfers, on this occasion I'd hang fire on criticising as this window is completely different due to European games in January and not finishing until tonight. Any signings could not have played last night anyway. Kyogo sale last week rather than this is the only questionable decision made but we don't know what the deal was.
If we add KT and a striker to Jota (maybe one other), and continue to get rid of those who don't contribute (Palma, Nawrocki, Yang) then it'll have been a good window.

There are a few slight caveats to your reply. We knew we needed another LB last summer and never closed the deal, picking up an exciting young prospect from Barca who fecked off before this window closed. If we had brought in a better quality LB who was either better than GT or pushed him harder then we MIGHT have been better at defending last night (if Villa had scored 6 or 7 then we could not have complained).

If we had brought in a third experienced striker in the summer then Kyogo wanting to leave us and Idah being off-form might have made the difference in some of the earlier ties that we should have won instead of drawn. And, instead of Idah running out of steam and having to be replaced by a very inexperienced teenager (a long-running fault where they don't get enough gametime, but that is another matter that you agree with) we could have been bringing on someone who is experienced in scoring in such high profile matches - even if we stupidly agreed to allow Kyogo to leave before the end of this stage.

Last night highlighted that we are lightweight in the middle of the park, but we know Brendan will never accept that so no point hoping for a physical midfielder.

This transfer window is indeed different from previous ones as all sensibly run clubs participating in Europe are waiting until this final round of fixtures is over before they will consider allowing their best players to be snaffled up by other clubs. Not Celtic though, as we punted our best striker before everyone else's self-imposed deadline.

Obviously we MUST bring in a new striker to replace Kyogo. They need to hit the ground running as they won't be afforded the time to bed in as Kuhn and so many others have needed to get up to speed with the game here in Scotland, as we need our forwards to be putting the ball in the net. The good thing is that at least they will have settled in before the European qualifiers start for us mid-July.

So far I have seen nothing from Tisdale that excites me. Yes, we have signed up two excellent footballers. But let's be honest, you didn't have to be a wonder-scout to identify that Jota and Tierney might be a good fit at Celtic Park. But, hopefully the squad will be much stronger next week than it was last week.

Rennes manager Joao Sampioli has been sacked. Just as well we got the Jota/Kyogo deals done and dusted otherwise it may not have happened.
I can't find any confirmation of that... even so, why would you even consider moving to a club so badly out of sorts (Sampioli has only been been in position since November, with the previous manager having been sacked!).

Kyogo must have been really unhappy if he couldn't wait until summer, win potentially two more trophies and find a better club to move to?

Glad we got our money in time tbh!

I'd be cool with a bargain who's already playing (and scoring) in Scottish football? An up front version of McCowan. Low risk financially. Fill a hole to the end of the season?

I have a horrible feeling we are going to do nothing, as it probably won't affect us domenstically, and the board feel we've reached out ceiling in Europe. Terrible lack of ambition. I expect to see more of Cummings and Kenny. Maybe that might be good in the long term, I don't know?🤨

You forgot Vickers ..Don't think you can blame the board this time we spent 30 odd million in the summer,we have re signed Jota ,Tierney and maybe more to come. What else are you wanting?Anything for a moan at the board.

Carter-Vickers is always a big loss for us and we struggled last night as he was missing.

Yes, we spent £30m on players in the summer - but we still made a £10m profit and sold our best player. And that was on the back of us already having a massive stash of cash in the bank beforehand.

Most of us are delighted that Tierney and Jota are coming back to Celtic, but I think it isn't too much to ask for proper cover in the striker department. OK, maybe that one is more on the manager rather than the board for not giving enough chances to our own youth?

I think most fans want a real investment in the playing squad - nothing stupid, but the best possible starting players that we can afford to improve the team rather than leaving £10millions festering away in a bank vault somewhere. If that is perceived as moaning at the board because they are the ones making these financial decisions, then I guess some of us are. But like everyone else on here, it is because we want what is best for Celtic and different people have different ideas as to what that entails.

At the end of the day, we are enjoying an unprecedented run of success, but how much is that down to the fantastic foundations laid down by Fergus to give us a huge financial advantage against other clubs in Scotland, and how much is down to - or despite - the current board? That can never be answered definitively. HH
