transfer window

Celtic held all the cards, where Kyogo was concerned. We had him on a long contract. I'm not mad about Kyogo leaving. Yes, he was our best striker, but he is 30 years old and he was no where near the levels under BR as he was for Ange.
Conversations were going on between Rennes and Celtic, obviously. If we did our business better, we could have told Kyogo and Rennes that a deal would be done as soon as we had someone in the door. That would have been fine.
The moment we let Kyogo leave....we instantly made our hand weaker for future negotiations.
We have royally fucked up. Our board have weakened the team and probably annoyed BR.
If they weren't willing to pay a bit more for the managers targets....they shouldn't have sold one of his strikers...regardless of how much he wanted away.

The thing is Lubo, we’ve seen previously what happens when player(s) want away and we don’t let them go…

I think we all want to see more Youths coming through the system. But this needs a proper pathway for them develop into first team players. The Lowland League option is clearly not working for us. I'd rather be more innovative and explore other options.

I don't know if SPFL clubs will want a return to the Reserve League - that was fine when you had mostly the same 13 players playing week in week out in your first team, but these days they are using 20+ players, and you'd need the same again for running reserves.

Operating costs are much more for staging a game, so the money simply isn't there for at least half of the top tier clubs. So maybe explore other options where other clubs can pool their resources, or bring in teams from other countries?

But we also need a manager willing to give them a chance (but he is under intense pressure to win every match) and a fanbase willing to be patient in allowing these players to make mistakes and develop.

In the old days, youngsters could make a cock-up and it would be vaguely remembered by 30,000 fans (many blootered 😁 ) who left the game happy cos we won. They might have seen 10 minutes of highlights on Sportscene or Scotsport, but with practically no analysis at all and no ex-footballer co-commenting on slo-mo replays.

These days so many of us micro-examine every single incident of every single game, and can watch multiple replays and criticise even if it never led to a goal against us in a match that we won comfortably. Then we go onto Forums or social media to have a moan,

My youngest son sent me a link to a Swedish podcast, that looked at the winter transfer window across Europe. The extra games in UCL & Europa Lge being towards the end of the window, seems to have caused a lot of teams not to sell players, especially if they've qualified for play off rounds.

One of the guys on it was someone called Henrik Larsson, who hit the nail on the head, if a player is valued at 10m in the summer his price will increase by 40-50% in the winter window especially if they've a few yrs on a contract..

The problem the selling club have is other clubs know they've got cash to spend & vice versus with the buying club who are desperate to strengthen. Very few clubs in the big 5 in Europe spent any money, a lot of loan deals with option to buy, Man City & PSG being clubs splashing cash, Spurs can be included in there to. But net spend is down across Europe.

The agreement from all on the panel was that this was one of the quietest winter windows in years.

So just let's hope Celtic sort out the summer purchases early

Aye I agree with that , except selling a wantaway part I'm not so keen on keeping any not since Rodgers#1.
Usually leads to some resentment and the downing of tools, whether kyogo would've been that way idk his body language did change but he couldn't be faulted for effort.
I'm just guessing but I wouldn't be surprised if there's been some fallout behind the scenes with Kyogo and someone, there feels like there's more to it than we know.
Even Celtic's 'tribute' was a 30 second sped up clip like something off YouTube shorts.
Rodgers speaking about him in the radio clip is a bit cryptic as well I thought.
Kyogos hardly been complimentary about the game here either, I've heard some say " disrespectful " even.
A Tim with a conspiracy theory whit next?

Indeed!

We all know who it is that peddles the old “conspiracy” adage, don’t we?…

Lowland League is probably okay for a 17-18 year old for one season, beyond that they regress. If the other clubs are against B teams in the league set up, even though it works across Europe, then we should buy a controlling stake in a Scottish club and send our best 18-20 year olds there to play alongside some experienced pros in the leagues up to Championship. Take a club on the slide, in financial trouble, without a stadium (Clyde is the obvious one) and take over the running of them. The cost per year to run a lower league club in Scotland would be less than a transfer fee and wages for a squad player bought in, eg for the money that Nawrocki cost you could buy a Clyde and run it for a season

It could have been better no doubt.

The thing is, we moan about not giving our young players a chance.

So what if, considering the inflated transfer amount we were being told to pony up, the decision was made that with Idah, Maeda and young Kenny all able to play up top we have enough cover to see the season out, and we will revisit the Norwegian boy next transfer window. Just a thought…
I agree on giving youth a chance now. I just wish everybody at the club could agree this is maybe a good strategy occasionally. Otherwise, why do we bother with a youth set up, if it's not for our own benefit?

You're making more profit on a home grown player getting sold for £15m, than a player you bought for, say, £10m and sold for £16m (estimated French Eddy fees from Transfermarket).

They've done well in the junior UCL.

Why can't the club just try one or two and say "this is why we are not buying". It's the silence and lack of transparency and planning that is unacceptable!

You my pal now lol…

You my pal now lol…
That's good!

I have enough fall outs with Mrs YB! 🤣

Joking aside, I'm sure we both want what's best for the club, agree on facts as they present themselves, but can happily disagree on the arrival at said facts whilst both admitting neither of us will ever know the real story/journey. It shouldn't be a big deal?

Hence my annoyance at the lack of transparency from the club.

I hope BR knows more than we do... or we won't see him for dust and then I don't trust the club to get the next appointment right! 🤨

But I would love to see Kenny 'do an Idah' between now and the end of the season! We will ALL be on board with that one!

If Peter Lawwell is the non executive chairman and takes nothing to do with the day to day running of the club and has nothing to do with transfers. Why was he on the plane with Rodgers & Nicholson to London yesterday to do transfer business?
You’re 100% correct when did you ever see or even hear from Bankier.
Nicholson is out his depth and needs Liewells hand and opinion or should we just call and say he’s still very much still running the amateur show.
We obviously don’t have the worst board in the world but they just don’t have a clue how to take us forward.
With near on £100m in the bank what is the clubs plans to take us forward is it structural bringing our stadium up to 70 or 80000 or are we going to try and get a better level of players where we should at least qualify for champs league and put up a decent fight when we’re there.
Nobody has a clue because they don’t say anything to us the only time you hear from them is when a new strip comes out or season ticket renewal or when we get a home cup game at parkhead and get charged £25 a game. (3 this year)With all that money in the bank doing F*ck all and they still charge the S T holders what they can on top of champions league tickets and obviously the S T. How galling was it on deadline day we get the last call for S T holders for Bayern tickets (£46) when it was starting to sink in the amateurs were taking everybody for a ride!
I for one can’t stand or trust our board to do anything right they take everyone of us for granted. We need as a club a more modern forward thinking CEO was that why Mackay only lasted a few months was he too forward thinking for these clowns

Brondby chairman says that it was always their intention to keep Kvistgaarden until the end of the season and the player and his agent were on board with that. He said they did have bids, as late as the last 2 days of the window, but they never met their 100m Danish Kroner valuation (£11m). Sounds like they are prepared to let him leave in the summer, the fee will depend on how he does in the last 4 months of the season, obviously it won't be less than £11m.
If that’s the case £11m with sale of kyogo it would only have cost us £1m so if we have been looking at him for a couple of seasons then surely we must be thinking he is or would become our number 1 striker and being early 20’s would make sense to get him in and getting him settled in for next season.
