UEFA CL 1: Celtic v Slovan Bratislava, Wed 18-Sep-24 at 8pm

Hope they treat this game with with a little bit of caution, too often we have attacked and attacked as we play a high line then the opposition go past the line they will sit for 80minutes and then attack we have seen this time after time with Euro teams our defence and midfield need to be on thier toes, a win would give us a good start come on Celtic go for it

Reo hasn't really been his dynamic self as yet this early stage of the season.
He's had his opportunities and may well wish Engels wasn't a newbie for then he may have said no I'm penalty taker and that's what he needs , a goal .
Reo without a smile on his face is a concern hopefully not for long.
Bernardo in my head gets the start ahead of him on pure form at the moment, but it's fantastic to have such options on the back of losing Oriley.
You could be onto something regarding idah and kyogo we know Rodgers likes to throw a wee surprise us all now and then with a selection that seems to pay off so it could be Idah who starts though I expect we'll see some of both anyway.
Physicality , I got the impression from the Slovak guys interview yesterday is a big part of their game, might see our box bombarded with high balls, CCV and scales will have to be bang on it , like everyone else.
If we don't see Trusty at some point then the Falkirk game I'd guess is ideal for his debut, we didn't pay £6 or £7 million for a sub pretty sure but scales game has looked good this early stages he deserves his place.
we all know what Reo is capable of. He is a fantastic player when he is firing on all cylinders. His form has dropped off recently from the very high standards we are used to. This happens to all players from time to time and the good news is he isn't going into hiding but is trying to work his way through it. He will come good again and by that time no doubt another player will have gone off the boil a wee bit.

This is what happens and exactly why we need to have a squad of high quality players so we can shift players in and out when they are off-form or have picked up an injury, so that there is not the resultant drop-off in performance of the team. At this time, I'd go with the 3 midfielders who are in better form, so I'd start with CalMac, Bernardo and Engels.

Hatate's day will come again soon and may even be as a super-sub tomorrow night. If I was to drop him to the bench it would be no reflection on his ability or how I think he will contribute to the success of the team next week, next month or next year. It is simply that sometimes as a manager you have to park sentiment to the side and make tough decisions for what is right for the circumstances you find yourself in at the moment. Only hindsight can prove if this was right or wrong.

Brendan is probably more likely to start Reo tomorrow than not and I would be delighted if he regains his devastating form and puts in the performance we all love seeing from him. Either way, let's get 3 points on the board, no injuries and no suspensions.

Mon The Hoops.

I reckon we are being suckered here,
I think TGS is bang on, I think I get what you mean , Celtic with our high hopes etc?
3 games at home have high potential , Slovan, Brugge, young boys, Zagreb away has potential as well.
I can't remember a draw that's given such potential since the fortress days.
If that's what you meant I get it but I don't think anyone is being suckered into believing that we will skate the champions league, everyone to a tee almost has said its going to be very tough each game especially the away games.

The difference in our approach to this champions league , the calibre of player we've brought in is what breeds confidence , we've almost by accident in the past had really good windows with unexpected success, players like Dembele come to mind.
This window , completely different to any other I can remember for a long time, actually ever I'd say.
We targetted quality and quality we got, it cost us but that's today's game and has to be the way forward for a club like Celtic.
Transfer record broken twice , that's never happened that I can remember in the same window , perhaps Mon did it I can't remember, but look what he achieved with decent backing, this is the first time Rodgers has had that decent type of backing.
On our game we know what we can achieve , we must be sure to be on our game, especially the away games , some big guns that could embarrass us , like Bayern did to Zagreb, avoid that beat these teams at CP, its not beyond us.
Without googling the answer I'd guess only Brugge could spend that much on players and I'm not even sure they can.

The board are the ones who brought Rodgers back, it's only right they back him properly to the tune a club like ours deserves and they actually have, but no-one here is suckered vigobhoy we've still to see the best of our new signings.
Some of us will get carried away that's the excitement of fitba or why bother innit?

3 points and what that could do for this teams self belief could be a corner turning moment, let's hope it turns out that way HH

For the first time in years I’m quietly confident we have a good chance of making a small dent in Europe with this new set up that on paper makes the competition more competitive. The club has spent over 30 million so the club has backed the manager even tho we all wish they did it few weeks earlier 😂 we are more than capable of getting 9/10 points but it won’t be easy as you don’t get easy games in Europe unless your one of the super rich clubs but anyway 3 points tonight is important and I’m sure Brendan and the bhoys will do the job 🍀
Me and my mate have been debating about Hatate or engles to start game and I’ve went for engles the same as Bridie but my mate went for hatate (tbh it’s a tough call for midfield as hatate can produce special moments too) 🍀

We've been getting better in the champions league in recent times, go back to Ange and we see us beginning to give better accounts of ourselves and last season Rodgers winning a cl tie was well overdue but he delivered it.
We've been slowly building a side, we still are.
Normally we'd have one of these ties against a non top tier side, here we have 4 , 3 at home 1 away, those games are all tough games but ones we should hopefully be able to play well in and win.
The 3 away games and 1 home are against top tier sides.
We would still hope to take something from liepzig at CP anyway.
Approaching time to strap in, and this is a side Slovan Bratislava I really really want us to bury, be great to do it in style but it would just be great to get the win as that would be back to back champions league wins carrying on from Feyenoord.
That was a tough group last season but we did compete , one game away aside.
Feyenoord and Lazio I'd rate higher than these sides, the ratings don't matter though the points do.

I think you nailed it Winter. We haven't achieved anything in Europe since the cup final under MON.

We are slowly building our way to a team that can approach these games on a par with other European sides.

If we continue to buy a better class of player then one day we will be rewarded. Unfortunately that won't be this season but we have a squad at the moment that will give it their all. They want the kudos that comes with beating other European sides as much as we do.

Slowly slowly catchee monkey 🐒
