Seriously, I remember one New Year and it was Baltic
Just before the bells, about 11:15 pm, a local nutcase, went over to the railroad yard and stole the wee fire bucket (brazier) that was full of coal for the night watchman
When he got home, he disappeared into the kitchen and went back out ,into the cold again
He's back 15 minutes later...
"Where've ye been ?"
"Ach I felt bad about stealing that old guys fire, so I went back and left him a wee hauf, to bring the Ne'erday in wi"
Imagine the old guy showing up at his howf, it's fucking freezing, and there's no fire, but there's a glass of whisky sitting there, where his brazier should be
